I've just put a Radeon 5830 in my computer and ran the benchmark for the first time. I have 3gb RAM in it with a C2D 2.66ghz CPU.

It's pretty much what I was expecting with this setup after seeing similar specs on the net. I'd love to overclock the CPU a little but it's a Dell machine and apparently that makes it more difficult.

Edit: I clearly need to get SP2 sorted for Vista, didn't realise I didn't have it.

Other benchmarks put it even or between a 5850/5870 so I'm not really sure what to think. I have a 275 GTX currently and the game runs ok for the most part but I would definitely enjoy the performance increase and that price is almost too tempting to pass up.

Haha. Still not sure what I should do. Friends are telling me to wait, that my 275 gtx should be fine or to just go with a 5850 or something but I'm not sure! Deal seems pretty good. Just afraid I'm going to shell out the money and not get the performance increase I'm looking for over my current card. The number one thing holding me back is looking at the FF14 benchmark scores.

I'm feeling the serious itch to upgrade, but I can't afford a new mobo and all of the things it would entail, at the moment, so I'll have to live with my 3500 score.

If you're just mainly going to use it for 14 I would just wait since you aren't sure.
    Price drops coming soon!

    That's my plan right now.
I'll just buy my new PC case and H20 components since those will hardly drop in price, and buy my new PC parts on September.

Plenty of time to build the computer for the release.

I only hope that the GTX485 will be out by then, if not I might have to wait a little longer.

If you have a 275, just wait. You'll be good enough to play at launch with things looking good enough, whereas with my 8800 I'd have to have everything on lowest possible settings, which Ive seen, and it looks like ass.

Then in 6 months or so (aka 3-4 months after release/after xmas maybe) get a much better card for <$200.
For me, the 4 months or so between sept. to next year is worth the $70 to not have artifacted crap on my screen.

Just want to say I got everything up and running. Will have a benchmark later tonight.

    AMD Athlon II x4 640 3.0GHz
    MSI 770T-C45 Motherboard
    4GB DDR2 533MHz (mixed) Will buy 1066MHz DDR2 when FFXIV releases.
    Msi Hawk ATI 5770 1GB DDR5
1 TB WD Caviar Black 7200 rpm 32mb Cache

Thanks for the help. Motherboard chart, etc really didn't help a lot. Also another question, it has like 3 audio outs. I just want to hook up a regular pair of powered speakers it has RS-Out, CS-Out, SS-Out... which one do you plug the jack into? :/ Guess I could be slick and plug them into the front headphone jack. Thanks guys.

Ya, as good of a deal as I think this is I'm going to go ahead and wait. I remember going from a 8800 gts to my 275 gtx and it was a pretty damn big upgrade. Looking forward to hearing how happy you are with your purchase!

I have a GF 9800 GTX, and a Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz. The game runs pretty smooth at 1680x1050 resolution on default settings. Not much lag or anything. Some slowdown in highly populated areas but still plays well.

Would I see any performance increase if I upgraded to a 470 or would my older CPU just bottleneck any newer card?

New High setting 1080P bench OC of the 5850

(These things can go higher however heat is a limiting factor in my case running stock cooler)

    P.S.

Thx Mister or Misses Sloth. Also fuck Adobe.

Would a score of around 2500 give a person a good chance to play the game with low to medium settings?

Are your audio outs color coded? Usually its the green one, or the one in the top left corner of the array of outs.

I think it's the "/" at the end (e.g. adflsdjkfj.png/ won't load the image cause it doesn't think its an image)

imageshack hides the direct link on the right hand side somewhere usually. I fixed it by linking to

The newish 258.96 nvidia drivers gave me a 200 point increase in the benchmark. (2500 -> 2700ish, on a gtx 260) Anyone else try those drivers out? They don't seem to have the stuttering on 200 series cards (particulary on the FFXIV benchmark) that previous 25x.xx drivers have.

For the lolz and I was bored with not being able to play the beta, here are my results:

    http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...a/BetaTest.jpg

I won't be playing on the laptop, was just curious.

This is on low if you couldn't guess.

Now I have to figure out which is cheapest; upgrading my current main computer or buying a new one...

Well I am ready for Beta/Retail. Woot woot. I believe ATI 5770 is basically a card that everyone should get for the minimum or the equivalent Direct X 11 nVidia card. Crossfired 5770s you are probably looking at 4700/3700ish.

Regarding upgrading, if I were to purchase a graphics card from the US, would it work in a UK built computer? Sorry to ask a newbie question.
