I don't like how the specs don't mention what brand of SSD is being used either. But those are minor complaints; it's still a brutal machine that should keep you happy for quite some time. Grats. :D
Thanks! It was a very hard decision, actually... as newegg has these three systems that were all VERY tempting and abotu the same price:

    1090T/5970: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883227254
    i7 930/5870: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229184
and the one I decided on:
    i7 945/470 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883229192

Sooooo close to buying the 1090T one. I still wonder if I made the right choice. I am sure someone will say I chose wrong.

Question: So i had a chance to or rather try to OC my CPU a bit today and i had little to no luck i am thinking that my setup is draining to much voltage from the PSU but its a ultra LSP 750w single 12v rail, not very expensive but worked real well for me during the GTX260 and factory clock on CPU. ( i know i heard that the 480 was a power hog but really this much ...? or is it just a shitty PSU in which case i'll head out to get one.

    anyone got any ideas?

you kind of got laughed at but it's a legit question.

the differences between UK and US computers are pretty small, most power supplies have a switch on the back, accessible from the outside of the computer case, that switches between 50hz and 60hz modes.

in conjunction with a cable of the appropriate plug type, this is what makes a computer work on UK outlets, the internal parts are all the same

480 is 600watts, so that leaves less then 150 for everything else

well, not quite. the card draws less than that (250 watts, in fact) the '600w' quote on the card box is the minimum recommended power supply size, and usually has more to do with average 12V rail amps on supplies of that size than the actual power draw.

I'd ask what your cpu is first; it's possible the cpu you have is just not amenable to overclocking. also, what else is in the system?

I ran the benchmark several times and got an abysmal score of 700~ each time.

    Specs:

    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, build 7600)
    CPU: Pentium Dual-Core E5400 @ 2.7 GHz
    GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5450
3 GB RAM, latest DirectX, drivers, etc.

Overall, it seemed like like it ran pretty smoothly and the graphics were great.
I just don't get it... any help please?

If anyone has some BIOS specs that they think would work well that i may do in small increments to bring this setup to 4.0-4.2ghz plzhelp me out, i seem to be shutting off before i even get close to bringing up the CPU temp, so i figured the PSU was just not cutting it ... Phoenix BIOS on evga x58 sli if you know of it or if it helps.

    cheers

I'd agree your PSU is fine for the job. As for OCing your CPU, I'd say that you should be able to hit ~3.4GHz without any voltage increases. After that keep increasing by marginal increments and running Prime95 to check stability. I've read that the 19x and 21x multipliers on the 920 run more stable. I run the 21x to keep my RAM out of the equation somewhat.

I'm not really sure how to help too much, since mine is a D0 stepping, and comparing to other reports I've read, even the variation in those is giant comparing to mine.

Lots of guides on google for the i7 920 btw, if you're having trouble finding them I might be able to scrounge some if they're still in my hotmail.

Ok so updating this. Downloaded the new beta drivers (258.96) and I saw a 359 pt increase over my previous score.. My best score with my EVGA 275 GTX SC on the stock clock was 2719(2800 was achieved through messing with the clock speeds and not knowing wtf I was doing), my new best is now 3078. It had the bonus of eliminating the frequent downward spikes I was seeing on the graph and the lowest FPS I ever saw was 35 opposed to it dipping under 30 FPS on my previous drivers(257.21). Take my results for what it's worth, it seems like it's worth a shot for anyone else out there. What's the worst that could happen, you need to reinstall your previous drivers?

    High
    257.21 drivers:

    258.96 beta drivers:

    Low
    257.21 drivers:

    258.96 beta drivers:

Going to attempt some overclocking and see how it turns out but I'm happy with the performance increase the beta drivers gave.

edit: For the lulz I updated with low scores as well. Saw a ~300 pt improvement there. Hooray drivers.

Hello dear sir! When surfing for beta drivers on the Nvidia site you must select "Beta and Archived Drivers" under the "Download Driver" menu. Here is a link to the correct drivers for your card so that you may hopefully share in this early christmas present from Nvidia! (Post results!)

Err well, actually that's for my OS but perhaps I'll get lucky and you have Win7 64bit also!

I'm kinda annoyed at how cpu dependent this game is. If my old gpu wasn't dying I would have upgraded my cpu sooner, but now I'm waiting. Not buying a 930 now either, seems better to wait a while... but by that time maybe i'll have the money to add a 2nd 480 on top of the cpu/mobo/ram lol. Will def need a new psu for that though. Inc beta driver bench in a bit, you know, just to show the lulz of a cpu bottleneck - If anything it will help people get their hardware priorities straight for this game. Lot of threads out there asking about gpus and builds to run this game.

Thanks so much for taking the time to link me up, I found the appropriate drivers you mentioned earlier just before you posted.

I'm probably on the extreme case here, and it really goes to show how much of a nuisance that 257.21 was, but with the beta drivers my Benchmark score went up 1500 points on high, and 2000 points on the low test.

seems unlikely the actual game is going to be cpu dependent, what exactly would it have to do in an mmo? There's no ai or pathfinding or physics. Just seemst o be a shitty benchmark and a shitty beta

Aren't most mmo's cpu dependent? At least that typically seems to be the biggest bottleneck area for people in them.

Anyway I set my msi afterburner up to mock eyedea's settings, since he also has a gtx480, to see what the difference in our bench was.

His i7 @2.7 with a 480 is benching 1k higher than mine, running a e8500 c2d @ 3.8. Same overclock on our gpu's, except my gpu is able to attain a higher overclock than his if I wanted, so I could always get it higher. Still pretty funny to see how significant this bottleneck is lol. Can't wait till next line of cpu's comes out.

Ran benchmark on my system (which is terrible) and can only get 2300 on low... Yeh need to upgrade. Currently I only have 2 gigs of ram in my system. Would upgrading it actually improve performance at all? Thing is checking task manger shows it doesn't use up all 'that' much.
