Well I've seen a ton of GTX 460 Reviews/benchmarks, but yeah.. only one FFXIV benchmark I think.

    My numbers with various settings

    GPU 756 1936 1100 ------- Nvidia 9800GTX+
    CPU Intel 6300 @ 1.86
    High -- 1688 Low -- 1920

    GPU 756 1936 1100
    CPU Intel 6300 @ 2.42
    High -- 1867 Low -- 2283

    GPU 840 2000 2500
    CPU Intel 6300 @ 1.86
    High -- 1720 Low -- 1827

    GPU 840 2000 2500
    CPU Intel 6300 @ 2.42
    High -- 1827 Low -- 2307

I find it interesting that overclocking the GPU had minimal effect. While the CPU seemed to have a mass effect. I also find it interesting that my low and high gap is not that big. I have seen the low and high gap be as much at 1000+ in this post.

There's a much greater level of disparity between the load placed on the CPU and GPU. It's easy for a good CPU to get an extremely high score on low settings, but the amount of work placed on the GPU in high points out a much lower performance ceiling. Not to mention that GPU architecture is much, much different than CPU. Clock rate on a 9800GT won't make a big difference when you don't have as many streaming units/lower memory bandwidth in comparison to more recent cards, unfortunately.

Protip: pulling out lmgtfy when you don't understand a basic request like mine makes you look both like a jerk and a bit clueless. I'm talking about FFXIV benchmarks, especially with the newest Nvidia drivers that seem to be improving performance across the whole GTX4xx line. There's only one review available using the FFXIV benchmark, which wasn't done very well (only used an HD5770 for comparison, which it matched).

Hello everyone. New to the forums but I needed to post since I'm still having trouble with the benchmark.

Intel (R) G41 Express Chipset is what I have. I updated it but the benchmark still keeps crashing after I hit start. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying that you're using the integrated graphics of that chipset? You need a dedicated video card to play FFXIV.

    @Linkrlz
Hint: Stop pushing the "START" button in the benchmark program.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist ^.-/

Your integrated G41 Chipset perhaps just refuses to accept the mere notion that someone could actually be cruel enough to run the FFXIV benchmark on it.

Plese take a look at this list:
    (w)ww.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

It's a list of current gen graphics cards that, down to the GeForce 9800 (980 points) should be able to run FFXIV. The G41 is not even on the list. To go a bit more into detail, please have a look at this article:

    (w)ww.tomshardware.com/reviews/g45-geforce-9400,2263-2.html

The best solution for you would be buying a graphics card; unless you are trying to play on a notebook, that is. Then you're out of luck twice in a row.

based on how close together your low and high scores are, and how the high and low increase approximately the same with cpu overclock, I'd say you're cpu bottlenecked. (my understanding is the E6300s are prime candidates for monster overclocks even on stock cooling, but do what you feel comfortable.)

your gpu is pretty low end too though, you may not see much performance boost from overclocking simply because there isn't alot more the card can do. the best high mark 9800 on the front page summary is only about 2100 points, the best low mark with a 2core and 9800 is about ~3200. (an E8400).

I've seen E6300 overclocks on stock cooling that hit 2.6ghz (with a modest overvolt, like around 1.4v? go slow and you should be fine.) so you've got some space to boost it yet.

which nvidia drivers are you using, by the way?

doesn't it just? :3 I picked up over a thousand points once I got the OCs dialed in.

The best is actually 4500ish Low and 2700 (I think it was) High with an overclocked E8400. A 9800GTX+ is also a GTS250 so use those numbers as well, mine did 2199 high/3700something low with stock clocks (quadcore though).

Edit: Checked again, guess mine was the only GTS250 on there, disregard that. lol

I actually experimented with overclocking my 275 gtx and seemed to be making progress until the card experienced a severe fps drop at the end of the last benchmark I ran. No artifacts or anything, wasn't even hotter than normal since I bumped the fan speed up. Kinda scared me so I reverted back to stock clock speeds. I noticed this happen in another game as well on stock speeds so it may be an issue with the beta drivers I'm using as the card doesn't appear to have suffered any damage.

I would be happy if I can run the game at 1680x1050 at the lowest settings. I just amazes me the improvements in hardware over the past 5 years.

For an 11 inch laptop I'll take it - (on low obviously)

    http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y31...1722-54-48.jpg

Most recent beta drivers knocked the score under default GPU clocks up around 30-40 (1412), so felt froggy and OCed a bit. Temps maxed out at low 50s so could definitely take it higher, especially if I decided to use a laptop cooler.

You're pretty much in the same boat as I am. I have the exact same processor and I'm getting 2419/2524 running it at 2.4ghz with a 5830. I was able to do a 1080P run at 2.6ghz, but it got 2483, so I don't think it's really "worth it" to try overclocking more on this chip.

Cheapest way for us to get better results would probably be to go for a C2Q, but that's just spending more money on an obsolete system. LGA 775 ftl. I can probably benefit from a bit more RAM too (I only have 2GB), but DDR2 is yet again more money on an obsolete system. Damn this planned obsolescence.

By the way, is that a m11x, Krandor?

    Currently I have:
    Intel Core 2 Duo 6300
    Nvidia 9800 GTX+

I built this computer awhile back. So without building a new system I am trying to figure out how I can get decent quality at 1680x1050

I was just thinking about picking up the Evga 470 because it is currently 315 on newegg. So my question is, do you think just putting in the 470 would be adequate enough to perform for what I want?

Quite honestly I think upgrading my GPU is the only reasonable thing to do with my current system. However, I am just not sure if doing so will reach my expectation.

Should I even bother with the 5850vs470 question? Can find them both from different vendors for about the same price.

I run an Phenom II X3 720 (@3.2GHz), 4GB RAM, and a HD 4850 and get like.. 1660 on High, and 2650+ on Low, but I'm not worried. If there's a windowed option, I'll most likely run that anyway, but I'd be okay with not running it at 1680x1050 (My monitor size) and lesser graphics. Just as long as it's smooth, Low or not.

Yeah, R1 with the Core2Duo. Waiting on a Momentus XT from Newegg to give it a little bit more of a boost.

Yeah, that drive is definitely worth it. Pretty much near SSD performance (after a few runs), but MUCH cheaper.

What are people getting their 5870's to? My shit still artifacts when it's OC'd. The "auto-tune" function fails!
