My old build had a c2d but I gave the cpu/mobo/gpu away after I built my new PC (i7 980X and a 5870) or I would test my c2d oc'd to 4ghz + Radeon 5870. Right now I should be getting alot higher scores on 1080p than people on 4-core cpus because 980X is 6 cores, which leads me to the question does this game even really support multiple cores?
I think a c2d oc'd to atleast 4ghz wouldn't be much of a setback as long as it's paired with a high end video card, saves a shitload of money too because I had to upgrade my motherboard and ram just to get an i7, so it's more than just the cost of the CPU. I was getting 2500ish range with the c2d and a 4870, if I had just upgraded the videocard I'm pretty sure it would've pushed me to the 3900-4100 range even with an old ass core 2 duo. It would probably be the most economic thing for people still on LGA775, overclock the shit out of your CPU and stick a high end GPU in it, I can see it working, but who knows, rather see someone actually try it than speculate.
