Sorry, feel the need to defend the i7 860 a little. First off, it's a fantastic chip (as mentioned above) for price-to-performance ratio. It sits right at that sweet spot where it still preforms admirably, but before prices start shooting up exponentially for smaller performance gains. Also, running the benchmark with an ATI 5850, the 860 hovers between 25-50% usage (mostly stays within 30-35%) -- there is plenty of overhead to push that chip harder without any kind of overclock.

I'm not saying it's the best, it isn't. But in terms of being a smart purchase, one can do far worse.

I can only go off my experience but the 1090t goes to 4ghz on air with proper cooling I imagine they can get 4.1-2ghz with ease. 1055t are little harder to clock but 4ghz is easy mode even if you don't know much about overclocking. 1090t is suppose to be on the level of the 920's but overall I7's are suppose to be better chips for games but also cost more.

I have a new PC coming for FFXIV and WoW, the base stats are;

Intel Core i7 920 QC (2.66GHz, 8MB Cache)
6GB Triple Channel 1333Mhz DDR3
Dual ATI Radeon HD 5770, 1GB GDDR5 CrossfireX enabled

Without telling me "you should have got ___ instead" or "____ is crap you should have went with ____" I want to know how THIS setup will run FFXIV and WoW.

I've tried this on several boards and it always comes down to an argument over what I should have got, instead of what I did get. I realize that these aren't the highest of the high, but this is the best my budget would allow.

Will it run WoW and XIV? Yes.

Run them well? WoW, yes. XIV, you would probably hit around 2k on the benchmark, so that's a big maybe.

ff14 bench on high= 2970

I can probably crack 3k, but I don't have time right now, maybe later tonight. That's just the quick and dirty, I didn't bother shutting down extraneous processes or anything, and I know I can get more out of the video card.

That's kind of disappointing... wonder how much boost a quad would give over that.

that is a little disappointing considering what I was getting with a C2Q and 9800GX2..

how loaded are you on the gpu/cpu when running the high? which is slowing you down?

edit: what was your score with the old card?

Are most people actually hitting 30 fps though? I would imagine not. And I mean in areas with some activity, not in fields in the middle of nowhere.

3 years from now everyone will be hitting the 30fps cap and cursing that it's there, if we can't manage to get it removed.

*I guarantee you some people are hitting the cap even with heavy activity. there are chips out there with 6 true cores and 12 logical, running dual 480gtx / 5890s. maybe not in this thread, but they exist.

I actually hit 30 FPS everywhere except Limsa. 720p all settings maxed, shadows off.

Looks like they fixed the gtx 4xx issue, now to see if AO is fixed

And nobody is getting 30 fps everywhere w/max settings unless their version of the game supports SLI. Game will be 60 fps cap when retail comes around, no reason for character creation to be 60 fps and the game not. Not to mention need 60fps for 3D

They unlock the settings and you fgts still playing at 720p? x.x; I'm maxed at 1920x1200, crank that shit up.
