I can probably crack 3k, but I don't have time right now, maybe later tonight. That's just the quick and dirty, I didn't bother shutting down extraneous processes or anything, and I know I can get more out of the video card.
Thanks for posting about the 460. I guess the other FFXIV benchmark out there was actually reflecting the card pretty well. Compared to official reviews, you already have your core/shader clocked higher for the 1GB than any of the other ones (using gpureview.com) leaving only memory a bit slower.. considering the other reviewed 460 got ~2700 at stock speeds, I wonder if pushing it further will do too much. I know it's nothing but a midrange card, but considering how it compared to the 5850 in pretty much every other game out there, I'm a bit disappointed I suppose.

Ok thanks ^^ Was just asking to be sure they didn't fully resolve this issue yet.

Any ideas what causes this? I have the latest version of directx according to Microsoft's updater (DX11), and am using nvidia driver Forceware 258.96.
Before installing the driver I ran driversweeper to clean all nvidia display/physx and rebooted.
bump on this, a little frustrated I can't figure out what is going on. I benchmarked my computer with my old card and really wanted to see what the new GTX470 would increase me to (not to mention to make sure I have no issues actually running the game). Thinking it's gotta be a software error of some kind, as everything else seems to display correctly/run ok. Should I be using different drivers or something?

From the sounds of it some of you where playing earlier today? I thought the Beta didnt start back until later today? for GMT hmmm

Seems some still having that stuttering effect which i wont be able to play with its too damn annoying..

Out of curiously had anyone copy & pasted the whole directories needed and placed onto another machine without having to redownload anything?

I have the full client installed and updated on my own PC but i could try it out on my o/h PC she never plays Aion anymore so could use that for the time being or at least test it out.

Mine is Windows XP 32 bit hers is Windows 7 64 bit not sure if that makes a difference.

Yes, you can copy the files directly. I would suggest to launch the app at least once before replacing the files to let it creates the "my documents" directories. I mean install the beta, launch it, stop the update and then replace the files, this should work.

You still running on the GTX 470?

Put an old spare hd in it and install windows, drivers, benchmark and see what happens? My 470 came in yesterday but I didn't get today off to go through reinstalling windows, so maybe tonight or this weekend.

Uninstall all your video card drivers - everything that came with it including PhysX.

    Reboot.

Run Driver Sweeper and let it get rid of any old display drivers left laying around.

    Reboot again.

Run Driver Sweeper a second time just to be safe.

    Reboot again.

Then re-download the 258.96 drivers - don't trust the ones you have downloaded already. If you're running 64-bit Windows 7, the drivers can be found here.

Install, test, report back with success or failure.

    If $result == failure, try re-installing Windows.

Because sometimes, that's just what you have to do. If you had some sort of previous install that failed in a particular way, it's possible that Windows has been left in a silently bad state. Re-installing is the last (but best) possible option. If you get to building/tinkering with PCs enough, you learn to build 1 clean install of Windows, make an image of it with a tool like Acronis True Image, and then you can re-install that clean image of Windows in about 5 minutes.

I can run beta just fine with an iMac in Bootcamp Win XP. Dual Core 3.6 Ghz, 3 GB ram, nvida 8800gs. Only problems I had was the opening video was a little choppy at the very beginning and when I was playing turning down the graphics improved gameplay a tad bit more.

I'll try that when I get home from work. On a random note, after I ran driver sweeper and installed the driver the first time (I tried twice with the same driver installer), right after windows loads, but before my desktop appears, I got a command prompt window (as if you ran cmd.exe) that says something like:

    C:\NVIDIA\<something>\?: Y or N?: _

At which point I was like... um... yes? Thought maybe it was driver sweeper asking to erase files that didn't get cleaned as I rebooted, but i have no idea. I may have done the first install of the nvidia driver while driversweeper was not 100% done cleaning because of this.

Anyone else ever see this cmd prompt?

I should have a new bios soon for 460 that will uncap the voltage control and then I can see how the bench does at 960mhz+ I'm still not sure if I'm gonna hold onto this card though. I need to find info on when ati's new cards are coming. I've always been an nvidia man though

So I played through beta and found that there is a lot of stuttering here and there..but in secluded places it is fine (for example the initial boat sequence).

    My specs are as follows:
    Intel q6600 2.4 Ghz OC'ed to 3.0 Ghz.
    Radeon HD5850 1GB DDR5
    4GB Ram

Do you think it is server/latency related? Hopefully, when they optimize it, it will run better. I run on 1680x1050, Window Size Buffer, 4x Sample Rate, with AO, and DoF turned on. Should I be worried?

AMD partner HIS let it slip that HD6000 will be announced in Q4 2010, supposedly. Since this isn't a fab change and 40nm parts don't seem to have supply issues anymore, perhaps they can deliver in Q4, as well. The change seems more akin to what GF104 is to GF100.

The new architecture will be 3d+1d instead of the old 4d+1d, the shader model will be changed to multiple operation instead of single(mimd vs simd) and the sp layout of the new hd6000 final chip will be 4d x 24 parallel processor x 20 simd = 1920sp.
%50 increase in sp count and dp/sp calculation rate increased to 1:2 instead of 1:5 is said to increase theoretical performance.
Simd architecture is also said to heal ati's current tesselation Achilles' Heel by fixing the triangle throughput being chopped in third issue. The new architecture is also said to be having flexibility for a 320 or 384 bit memory bus size.
Increased paralel processor ratio by %50 and l1-l2 caches are said to increase unit shader performance by %25-30 rate over hd5870 and that hd6000 is supposed to be %25-30 more powerful than a gtx480 while maintaining lower manufacture costs and higher chip manufacturing efficiency(%20 bigger die size than hd5870).

Quoting myself! I am not sure which thread this belongs in. We have two threads talking about computer parts now...

Intel has cut its processor prices.

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/pro...ion,10902.html

The biggest one is the i7 870 price went from just under $600 to just under $300. This is making me question whether or not I should go for the 920 or not...

    Edit:

    Good news, everyone!

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/ont...x11,10905.html

ATI's 6000 series will be released before the end of the year. Which means its 5800 and 5900 series should get some price cuts.

    Edit:

I am on a roll this morning!

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.450019

If you want a cheap graphics card to bide your time until the 6000 series arrives, this combo deal is amazing.

nVidia 460 & 1250w power supply (gold cert. w/ modular cables) for $385 total. Its a $165.00 discount!

Why do the 58/59s have to get cheaper when they can just charge more for the 60?

I agree, it seems like since the ATI 59NN series is the speed leader according to the benchmarks I've seen, there is no immediate pressure to lower the price.

From my understanding, and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but there's a "skipping" issue with ATI cards. I have an even better processor and twice the ram you have and I had the same issue - fine on the boat and jumped frames in town.
