Some of the thinking here may be valid, but some of it is based on old ideas. having to be tethered sucks, but i started leveling conjurer in the last 35 minutes and got rank 4 without needing to refill my mp. Running from one crystal to an aetheryte and killing along the way i think you ll be fine, and later as you get more mage gear with mp bonuses, and more skills for mp management you wont need it as much
about the dmg on conjurer, the regular attack sucks now, they nerfed it, but seems like the elem magic is stronger, or maybe its cause i actually threw some points into elements this time. anyhow my reg attack was doing 17 (base int no boosts) but my fire was doing 50-80. this was level 1-2 we re talking about here. at that level my pug was doing like 12x2 a swing but only like 30-50 on concussive so spamming fire was like just pure ws dmg. price is mp, but it was pretty cheap. This was me with like no int btw, so i imagine an actual mage with stats allotted would see better numbers. Basically its still to early for me to know how being a mage is, still prefer this to the sitting thing in ffxi though. And really i think if they needed to change it for past level 10 they will.
Dont go too crazy bout what you see from rank 1-5 things change alot and dif problems develop. From alpha i can tell you although pugs get good dmg, they better be dodging alot or they will be dead, they never get acess to heavy armor. a mage with a shield is actually pretty hax btw, theres a lot of things yall aint taking into consideration basing your ideas on a level 5 chr with no skills from any other class.
