about mp, i dunno if they actually need to change it and add mp regen, but im not saying they couldnt. I think a big part of the mage game will be balancing your mp with actual skills, like aspir tranquility etc, got to rem that this is low level stuff, also as far as tham dmg, you also got to remember that you can use skills from other jobs, in the alpha people say they saw no difference in using the elemental spells on thaum.

Some of the thinking here may be valid, but some of it is based on old ideas. having to be tethered sucks, but i started leveling conjurer in the last 35 minutes and got rank 4 without needing to refill my mp. Running from one crystal to an aetheryte and killing along the way i think you ll be fine, and later as you get more mage gear with mp bonuses, and more skills for mp management you wont need it as much

about the dmg on conjurer, the regular attack sucks now, they nerfed it, but seems like the elem magic is stronger, or maybe its cause i actually threw some points into elements this time. anyhow my reg attack was doing 17 (base int no boosts) but my fire was doing 50-80. this was level 1-2 we re talking about here. at that level my pug was doing like 12x2 a swing but only like 30-50 on concussive so spamming fire was like just pure ws dmg. price is mp, but it was pretty cheap. This was me with like no int btw, so i imagine an actual mage with stats allotted would see better numbers. Basically its still to early for me to know how being a mage is, still prefer this to the sitting thing in ffxi though. And really i think if they needed to change it for past level 10 they will.

Dont go too crazy bout what you see from rank 1-5 things change alot and dif problems develop. From alpha i can tell you although pugs get good dmg, they better be dodging alot or they will be dead, they never get acess to heavy armor. a mage with a shield is actually pretty hax btw, theres a lot of things yall aint taking into consideration basing your ideas on a level 5 chr with no skills from any other class.

    From ffworld:
    • PS3 was delayed because of lack of RAM.
    • PS3 will have a fixed resolution.
    • Square will have another meeting this month to discuss the timing of the PS3 bet.
    • French version (and presumably German as well) will have English voice overs with subtitles.
    • Chocobos will be used as mounts and also in a brand new way.

    From jeuxonline:

    • Retainers will be placed in set marketplace stalls and be able to hold, and sell, player goods while a player is offline. At this time there is no auction house in the game.
    • Levequests yield, in addition to tangible rewards, reputation.
    • As was the case in FFXI, some mobs will attack unprovoked on sight, but will refrain from such an attack if the player is too high a level.
    • Instanced dungeons and notorious monsters are in the works.
    • Currently is is possible to raise all crafts to maximum level.

The way retainers bit is worded makes me think that the retainer system is just an AH system with no auctions but just fixed price immediate buyout items, though I guess if it is one system and not individual bazaars like FFXI then it is pretty close to AH functionality.

Instances and NMs... NMs basically have to be pretty good to make them worthwhile otherwise everyone will just gear from instances. I hope they don't flesh out like WoW rares that are just an extra green or some crap.

The Retainer system looks like cause for alarm at the moment. There are 20ish instanced market zones with about a dozen stands each, and it looks like you have to physically buy from the retainers, nothing like an AH. Further, it's not convenient to navigate between these marketplaces. Basically, it looks like player economics are going to be a fat Bertha bitch.

Some kind of search function has already been requested numerous times, but there's an unfortunate ultimate conclusion to reach. If you can search for the item you want, then it's going to be ridiculous if you still have to go to the right instance, find the retainer, and buy it (potentially before someone else does). Players are going to want to be able to buy right from the search menu, just like an AH.

If you don't need to go in to the market wards to buy the items...

What's the point of having them at all?

I just want a normal auction house. Retainer system seems pointless, especially since it adds to the monthly fee.

    Ugh.

I really hope there is more to this retainer system than what it sounds like. To me it just sounds like the FFXI bazaar with NPC's instead of having to stay online 24/7.

I hated bazaars in FFXI. It was laggy and a huge waste of time to run around inspecting hundreds of people trying to find an item you're looking for.

Now imagine the same thing, only players wont need to keep their computer on and stay logged in and there is no other way to sell your goods (no AH). There are going to be THOUSANDS.

If this "marketplace" is a zone with 2000 npc's standing around that I have to individually click and scroll through their goods I'll end up cutting myself.

... after typing this out I just cant believe how crazy a system like that would be. How could ANYONE think that was a good idea.. SE can't be that stupid, there has to be something more to the system.

They already said there will be a search option and that you will be able to purchase through search from anyone in the zone. I think the whole market + retainer is just to make it look more personal and grand scale.

I can't remember if it was something official or just someone's idea.. but someone said that you would be able to set prices for your retainers to buy items, so as soon as someone put the items up for that price, your NPC would buy them automatically, would be great for buyers and sellers. Would be cool to be out grinding and get messages from your retainer telling you that he/she just bought the items you were looking for for xxx gil.

I wasn't home so I didn't log on for the 1st beta, but from reading the test forums it looks like there is an option to set items that your seeking. Its not clear if people can sell their items to your retainer, or your retainer will buy those items from other retainers.

What I'm curious to see is how they create the functionality of an Auction House (at minimum) while actually having people, you know, go in to the Market Wards and look around. Because if they don't, SHIT that's a lot of wasted development.

In terms of simple playability on the economic side it has to be a one stop type of thing. What is BS is that SE expects people to pay a dollar a month to have the option to sell in multiple cities at a time(or there is a even worse reason for this like limited retainer item slots).

If it gets changed to a single search menu, yes that is a lot of wasted development, but if it doesn't it is basically a step back into the stone age in terms of MMO progression.

How retainers works isn't fully known..Maybe retainers in all cities will be linked, but they will most likely have limited space, hopefully there will be upgrades you can get to raise how much they can hold/sell.

Not really, since people bitched about storage space in XI, retainers are basically your mule + bazaar person.

More like moogle + bazaar IMO.

It's not useless, but I doubt it can completely replace the efficiency of AH.

Wasn't the retainer system implemented into the beta? If so i would really appreciate if someone can test it out a little and tell us how it works exactly whenever they can.

Thanks for that input. Conj spells sound like they are doing what they should, the same if not more damage then a WS.

Oh the thum argument, though. I dont think it should be necessary to level a conj just for thum can get decent dps spells. I can understand if thum is more dot/buff focused but it should still be a decent dps class if it wanted to, considering conj is split with dps/heals aswell. Of course to maxamize the classes potental you mix and match abilities ect.

Also I can understand the strategy of no mana regen in battle. And the importance of mana management in battle. Only thing I would like is, a rest function. Or a mana regen while in passive. Thought again my opinions arent too valid. It just sound like more work putting Aether in tons of locations.

Im just thinking cause what if I wana go out exploring, just to see around. and lets say I get aggro and the mob is tough so I use up all my mana. I would have to go back to camp recover mana then go back out exploring, what if I see a NM after I fight the mob that aggroed me. I cant just rest up and then fight it, no I gota go back to camp, then walk to the NM while Melee's have it slightly easier.

Thats my whole thing. I would just feel bound to aether points as a mage which would discourage me for exploring or anything.

As far as I know, you get a spell/skill that drains MP from dead monsters, and something like Aspir too.

But you should post that on the testing forums if you can, I'm sure the devs would like to know about potential flaws they hadn't thought about.
