AoEs are broken for me. First thing I did when beta started was what I did in Alpha, Dart multiple mobs, get them to attack me, aoe them down. AoE's only hit my target on several attempts with them clustered really close... tried both 360 radius and LoS, neither worked.
When it was functioning correctly in Alpha, they hit everything. I think it's just borked right now.
That's the impression I've gotten so far, complete with small ledges you can't jump down or hop up on (can't wait to see what the Ordelles Caves of XIV will be, seriously, gimmy a damn hop button if I can't 'jump'), and animation lock on the engage/disengage (bleh), but at least you can freely keep your engaged stance up so back-2-back killings aren't annoying.
Will keep at it for awhile and report what I find, SE is going to get a good essay on proper interface management for mouse control for certain from me though as I can guarantee reporters are going to bash it as one of the flaws of the MMO in the age of WoW-clones where everything is expected to handle in a particularly intuitive manner.

Well that was fun. Couldn't quite figure out how to turn in those first three battleleves for Bearded skull camp or whatever after I completed them. They just kind of sat in my journal. The dude who gave them to me in the adventurers' guild didn't seem to have any new leves for me except skull valley, which I couldn't find. I couldn't quite figure out why there were numbers next to the factions in the factionleve listing with that guy, yet he didn't seem to have any of those for me either.
As for video performance, my 4670 ran decently in the field, but quite choppy in LL.
Interface is definitely not something I would call friendly.
I would have to agree on the interface. Which is somewhat ironic since it's supposedly more simplistic.
Oh so buffs on conjurer actually make it possible to level decently? I gave up.
I couldn't figure out how to get to the marketplace. I saw people running down there and I didn't know what they were doing hah. Oh well. Next test should be a bit better because people will have a bunch of armor from level 10 guildleve rewards. Hope they release recipes before then. Or they can add a tier of gear back in that covers levels 5-12ish and leave the recipes a mystery (outside of guildleves giving you hints.) Either way is ok.
All of the camps are already premarked on the map. Use the left mouse click to navigate it. Skull Valley is northwest of Bearded Rock, Cedarwood (which is not a camp, but just a node, and it USED to have levequests, which I haven't seen in Beta yet) is directly east of Bearded Rock, and Bloodshore is north of Cedarwood.
Also, as someone noted, you need to interact with the node that pops when you finish, (or from what I have heard, you can go back to the camp Aetheryte and still finish it that way), but it works the same way as how you started the levequest at the camp Aetheryte in that you need to open the Main Menu (Home key) to access it.
As an addendum, I highly suggest to anyone still confused about any part of the UI to actually read through the manual on the dev site. A lot of the questions I saw crop up today were all covered there.
If dev-na is set up like jp, the option just above the link to the manual gives a visual picture of the keyboard layout and its shortcuts as well as a grid box of commands. (Down the list: Home; To Begin; Download; Operation; Simple Manual; Forums)
Left click-drag anywhere on the map to move it around (it automatically starts out centered on your char).
God a bit of a chance to play around today, from a mouse/keyboard standpoint the controls seem even worse than FFXI's, I wasn't aware that was even possible. It seems like it was almost completely designed around the idea that everyone should use a gamepad to play the game. That said, uhh, any recommendations for gamepads? I have wireless PS3/360 controllers but not sure what is needed to get them working for the PC and FF14. Wired 360 controllers have a USB connection at the end right? As it's probably obvious, I have zero experience with this.
If you do a google search you'll probably find something quickly. This was the first result for me: http://www.hardcoreware.net/how-to-p...ndows-7-vista/ when I searched "ps3 controller windows 7"
Exactly how I took it myself. I guess the game feeling a lot like XI isn't a bad thing, but I was hoping it would be a lot more responsive, like a modern game. Targeting system is still as awkward as it was in XI, but I suppose it something they had to do to accommodate PS3 users =/
