FFXIV Random Speculation/Question thread III: Where's my beta invite?

I've always used a gamepad for FFXI and now FFXIV... So it's definitely worth it to use one or buy a logitech PC game pad. It's a lot easier to control the camera with a gamepad and also to menuver through all the menus without having to deal with the "mouse lag" problem.

I just figured I managed to avoid it long enough in FFXI that when FF14 came around maybe it would be more keyboard/mouse friendly. Apparently they decided to move backwards instead of forwards in that regard.

I think it's FF14's version of a WoWArmory type page where you can blog and show off your character and stuff. Not really sure.

It has details on peoples characters (names, skills, exp, stats) and has a forum/blog like thing as well.

Yeah, XIV is designed with gamepads in mind since it's being built and optimized for console play. XIV actually feels a lot more modern than XI does, it's just still not an action game like most MMOs these days..it's actually an RPG. Clearly they have to tweak some things but that's to be expected. I must really be the only person that doesn't need a jump button to get around ~.~ Being the same engine that XIII uses I'm pretty sure they'll add a autojump near ledges but I was actually able to walk down most small ledges.

I dunno, sound is pretty loud and fine to me I had to cut down some in-game sounds because it was too loud.

That's very cool. +1 to Square Enix for including this with the player website.

ffxi had the ls community site which basically had all of the same stuff, not really new for SE lol

Finally done with that stupid patch. I just wish it were 24 hours ago so I could play. >< Probably won't get much chance to play tomorrow either since it's my mom's birthday.

As for the keyboard vs controller thing, I've always played XI with a controller. It felt odd having to use a keyboard when my PS2 controller broke.

So I take it Limsa is the only available starter city right now?

Yep and even then Limsa isn't fully accessable iirc, and there's quite a bit to explore outside of limsa..till you hit gates that lead to other areas past the limsa region >.>

anyone who used a torrent program for the patch able to play (when servers were up), or did you all let the default patcher download it all?

i'm paranoid it'll all screw up through torrent and i'll have to download from scratch with the default patcher.

the test forums are full of "i get crash when launching client" but none of them have said if they used utorrent or such

For the 20thhh time, you can use the utorrent or any bittorrent client to download the patch

You use w/e one you like


If you use bittorrent make sure you point it to c:\users\yourusername\documents\mygames\ffxiv-beta\ffxiv-beta iirc is the correct path

Then when the torrent finish, close everything and reopen the FFXIV official launcher that will install the patch

Btw. If anyone else noticed: level req of armors doesn't matter, you could equip them even at level 1 :D Didn't check weapons though.
