Brown belt, elemental staves (many mnk weapons too), sniper's rings, emp. pin, hauby, to name the most problematic ones.

I'm not saying end-game itemization was good in RotZ either (like I hinted at Sundi developing K club), I just said it would have helped a ton if the equipment would have scaled better for their level. It wouldn't have fixed everything, but it would have made a lot more sense.

I was just commenting on Kaylia when he said "it doesn't really matter".. yes, it does.

So much bitching about how hard it was to get items in FFXI, lets be honest, the endgame armor was/is what has alot of people playing for so long. If everyone can get everything than it just doesnt make the game as fun.
I do agree that there should be more gear optimized for low levels and I think they are making the effort to do so in 14. I only got my char to lvl 11 in the alpha but there is already more things to do than in 11. Like I said before, in FFXI at lvl 11 you had barely any abilities and the point was just to spam your lvl to 75 ASAP. Seems like in 14 you will have more options.

On the flip-side, it was pretty fun going from like level 55 - 75 with Velo Belt or Vali's bow.... and lets not forget the level20wtf12%movement trotters. But yeah, i agree they need to balance it a bit more... for a while okote was main endgame hands for a few jobs... problem is the item didn't look endgame too.. reminds me of Zeni rewards..eww

    Oh yeah, on the subject of Weapon Durability, i'm sorta against it. It's not because of the gameplay aspect or anything, it's just I have an OCD when it comes to gear not being @ 100% like in Elder Scrolls... I hope they do what Hyan was thinking... only have the durability go down as a death penalty. W/e they do though, wouldn't stop me from playing FFXIV... already looking much better than FFXI, it's only MMO I can transition to since quitting XI in 09. ; ;

Yeah, this is the best idea for durability as just being a death penalty.

Well, its just another way crafter can fit into a party, although I cant imagine what kind of fights that will be that will require you to tag along a blacksmith. However, it does sound interesting to me. Also, in FFXI crafting got to the point that with most crafts you couldnt make any money unless you HQed a piece and than you sometimes only broke even cuz you hq'ed 1/12 or even lost money. the gathering classes need to be more balanced than in XI where mining was largely profitable vs gathering which was virtually useless and I never meet anyone who went around and gathered for money.

Agreed, I find that more tolerable. However, it could prevent people from playing the "hero" and start up the whole, "I'm not dying for this" thought and hesitation before acting on anything potentially dangerous. Which I believe mucks shit up as well.

True, but you'd still have the same problem from anyone tanking the mob. "Dude, i'm not support tanking that shit, it'll kill my armor durability, i'm a DD only Pug." Idk, we'll have to see. Would be nice though if SE made certain armor/weapons where they can't degrade. Like maybe some rare/ex or idk... relic?

Or it could degrade more depending on how tough the mob is so you'd have a blacksmith while fighting HNM repair shit for DD's while they heal up or something.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess a 10,000 lb mob would put a dent on gear, huh? haha. I still think it'd be a cool additional feature though to a relic to have it not degrade... sorta like the bride's Hatori Hanzo from kill bill. XD

You build your game accordingly. It's not hard to balance numbers

I've seen people ragequit party in wow to avoid a 10g repair bills. I've seen people in FFXI refuse to take part of dangerous mission to avoid losing 5min worth of xp...as long there is a penalty for dying, you know people are going to pull that shit.

In FFXI, you could die at repetition (ie: preventing nm from despawning), so as long they dont have something like this, it doesnt really matter. Fight shouldn't be designed around the players dying 20 times.

So much crap about FFXI. Can we move on?

@ the haste stat, I HIGHLY doubt there will be haste, since you swing as fast as you can click the button and are bound by your stamina regen.

Assuming they have an equivalent to haste, it will be + stamina regen imo, since no ingame stat can make you click the button faster.

I guess they could speed up the animations a bit but that doesn't really fit with the system they have designed (that we can see so far). The other option is it just lowers recast timers, which could work as well.

I could see a + casting speed stat maybe, but then I'm not sure how you would balance it with the melee.

Even with + stamina regen though, I'm assuming some "endgame" skills will use your entire stamina bar, so it just reduces the "downtime" between bigger skills.

Apparently people have gone through the dats and there is in fact Haste gear. The way it'll probably work is that it'll make your ATB gauge fill up faster (like in every other FF game) and allow you to perform more actions in a shorter amount of time. This will eventually lead to "MOAR DOTS".

Will most likely have an impact on recast timers for certain spells/abilities as well. Not sure though. They have to be real careful with this cause it could potentially break the game.

So its stamina regen then, which is what I said.

Remember that the dats are based on a combat system that doesn't exist, I wouldn't place too much faith in them at this point.

Lancer's speed surge is the haste equivalent. Though I didn't notice a difference in videos, it is meant to increase stamina regeneration.

Speed surge has nothing to do with haste. It lets the lancer absorb some HP with every hit.

If it speed up the gauge by a certain % (seem to be the most logical conclusion for now), it won't have cumulative effect like it did in FFXI, making it much easier to balance all around. 100% haste would mean you can do twice as many actions in FFIV. 100% haste in FFXI means you're dealing an infinity of attack every seconds.

It might still be one of the better stats, but after a certain point, it would eventually be more worthwhile to increase your other stats.

Actually the tooltip says that it increase stamina regeneration or something to that accord. According to E3 vids.

EDIT: "Wield weapon your deftly, increasing stamina regeneration. Hitting the target inflicts an enfeebling status which grants attacking party members the ability to absorb HP."

    Includes grammatical error too

My apologies then, I haven't seen that but I also haven't been watching the e3 vids closely enough to see tooltips.

Thats a slight change from the alpha then, but you would expect that.

I wonder if that means it increase the speed of your stamina regen for a set amount of time, or gives it a one off boost?

EDIT: Regardless, it isn't really haste as per my original post because having your stamina build faster doesn't increase the speed of your attacks, it just lets you get more attacks in over time. There is a subtle difference there, but its an important one. As Kaylia mentioned, its much easier to balance a mechanic that lets you attack consistently for longer periods of time than one that lets you hit the mob faster.

    Its a good change imo.
