A bit late on the crafting discussion, but was there a site for 11 that showed crafters per server with normal availability times? Would there be value in creating one for 14 or is it better rolled into one of the other up and coming sites?

Whichever server I end up on, I'll be creating a crafters' union. Fair pricing and availability, in theory.

Yea, I leveled DRG as my first job way before CoP came out, so I know where you're coming from. I quit a bit less than a year ago, and at least on my server the job has gone a 180, and is quite popular now.

If you compared RNG these days to normal melee, it gains no effect from Haste, and the Accuracy on it is imbalanced IMO, especially after the 2-h update. I leveled it as my last job, so that's why I'm kind of keen on leveling Archer in XIV,

Why would someone who does Blacksmithing as their main mechanic want anything to do Blacksmithing. So booring I mean come on, they play a Blacksmith because they want to dance and sing songs. Hmmm.

A lot of the AoEs actually do require positioning, like Skewer hits the target and anything in between, and the PUG AoE is like earth slash from FFT, it hits targets in a straight line. Adding a bit more AoE into the mix isn't a bad thing, especially considering we're going to be fighting more monsters at once without just putting them to sleep. (Thank god)

I'd do something like this if I wasn't already making a Company of RL friends. You should name it the "East Eorzean Trading Company"... seeing as Companies are the new LS.

Possibly slower weapons will regen stamina slower? If so, again, haste won't exist, it will just be stamina regen.

Marauder AoE from standing still is only 1 attack every 15 seconds. They also have Brandish, which is an AoE weaponskill that has nothing to do with standing still.

PUGs get Siesmic shock (which hits things in a line in front of you, can also be used to hit things at range if needed), Glads get Circle Blade, Lancers get Leg Sweep, Archers get Wide Volley, CON's get the elemental nukes (Fire, Thunder etc), not sure what Thaums get.

All classes though get some sort of AoE at lowish levels. They all cost either TP or MP though.

    Edit: Corrected a skill.
Lancer has a few moves that are position-based and not full AOE. Skewer hits in a straight line, and leg sweep hits in a cone in front. You're getting your wish, so don't worry, but tanks NEED to have non-gimmicky AOE moves simply to be able to maintain hate on everything that the group is pounding on, unless you just want people to fight without tanks or you want the tanks to just get AOE vokes.

I'm worried a little bit that the "straight line" special attacks will end up not connecting on more than one mob due to not being wide enough and server lag. I don't think I ever successfully hit multiple mobs with the PUG earthquakey one.

The straight line ones aren't all that - I'll agree. I've landed skewer on multiple mobs maybe twice in 3 weeks of testing, but who knows. FFXIV feels so much like FFXI in the way that movement and latency works that I doubt they'll be changing skewers small range.

One would think that in the end the latency would be better due to not being capped at modem speeds? Or is this an irrelevant factor?

What exactly were you fighting/doing? I'm just curious because I'm not in the alpha, but I did hang out at a friend's house who was in the alpha quite often, and never once saw him have a problem landing skewer, the few times it didn't hit the additional mob, it was very clear that the mob had moved before the ability was activated.

Having taken over the drivers seat a few times, particularly last Sat (the last day of alpha) I did 6 guildleves and had absolutely no issue skewering even 3 mobs with one attack. In fact I felt it was extremely generous, as I often hit the additional mobs when they were a few feet to the left or right of the path I was skewering.

While would you level a non combat jobs if you want to go to combat to keep the same 1 or 2 debuffs up all the time?

And why would anyone take pride in doing a job a 3 years old could do that is completely disconected from the currents fight, and involve no thinking? No company, I hope, strive to design that kind of gameplay.

Are you still talking about crafting? It seems like you are, but maybe I misread, because no one could be this stupid.

Anyway, a crafting guild is a good idea, I remember people on my server in XI did it and it went pretty well. If the guild gets popular then it's a good resource for people who don't have a friend with a particular skill. I wonder what the specifics on Companies are, and if there's benefits to being in one (NPCs with cheaper prices or something), etc.

I'm talking about the retarded speculation people are making about crafter in battle.

The crafting in FFXIV does involve gameplay, and intelligence, I thought you played in the alpha? Apparently you didn't craft.

Anyways, having to repair your companies gear on the battlefield under tight time pressure? That'd be fun for someone who already enjoys crafting in normal circumstances, because they get to experience different content, and be tested at their skill. Which ideally is the EXACT same thing combat classes do in an end game encounter, they're doing the same things as usual, only with more risk/reward and more time pressure.

I think that depends on what SE makes of end game (and perhaps the game in general). SE can go two ways with it: Super tank or multi tank. If mobs are scaled so that a bunch of mobs of a...competitive level can nail a tank and he won't go down, we'll have super tanks. If a mob swarm is too strong for that, we'll need to divide the enemies' attention. In the latter case, if it boils down to 1-on-1, AOEs won't be necessary.

I think the number of AOE attacks this early (not to mention how it's inherent to both mage casting types) means that mob swarms will be fairly common. With PUG and MAR's slight defensive leanings (and more hand-on stat distribution), we might have more than one class be a decent tank (maybe). That doesn't necessarily make either tanking style guaranteed or mutually exclusive, but it does mean SE is mulling the subject over.

What are you talking about? My replies were directed at the speculation wrote in this post about battle, not at the current crafting system.

Assuming repairing works the same way as crafting, there is more to it than just hitting a button and it is magically repaired. I'm pretty sure everyone can generally agree that basically everything in MMOs is easy in comparison to something actually difficult, and combat is really no more difficult than crafting now.

I can't really comment on this cause there is not enough information around it.
This could end up like a lame gimmick or an interesting innovation, I don't know yet. However I fell that this may end up like the situations where there was 1or2 thieves in a guild for Treasure Hunter. Maybe it'll be bigger than 1or2 thieves and we'll have a full alliance of miners in XIV for last hits.

It seems both of you don't understand there might be people that like doing the things you don't. I'm not saying I'd play a crafting job for the battle aspect, but who knows what SE has planned. Opinions =/= facts, nor do they apply to everyone universally.

There are people who enjoy sticking large needles through their penis as well. Just because it gets somebodies rocks off doesn't make it a good idea.
