I'm very curious about the lantern shield thing we see on the main website. Is anything known about them?

I'm speculating off-hand weapons will be almost like accessories. Stat boosters, special effects for mages, that kind of thing.

I don't think they are simply stat boosting accessories because of that..

Can't believe this isn't getting more attention. Anyone have more information on this? For example, can every class dual wield if they so desire? Are there limitations on what can be equipped/negative penalties for doing so?

Yah I noticed it. Does seem that the younger the face type the smaller the chest size and the more mature looking face the larger they become.

Additions to the Beta Manual

In anticipation of the upcoming FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test, a number of new sections have been added to the game manual.

- Market Wards
- Retainers

The entire manual is now available for testers to view.

I could have sworn I saw a picture of a gladiator during E3 with a skill called "dual wield" or something like that, even though the PC was equipped with a shield in the offhand. I wonder if it's just a skill that can be picked up and used as necessary. Can't find the picture.

It's Ambidexterity, but it doesn't mean Dual Wield. You just don't take a penalty for having a Shield on or something to that extent.

Hmm you might be right... Off hand DoL abilities perhaps?

Ambidexterity is an ability, something you actually have to use, it's not passive or a job trait as you'd call them in FFXI.

Ambidexterity - Focus on your off hand, increasing its action gauge regeneration rate by **%.

That description is from the alpha and might be different now, but even if it has changed, it would still be an ability in the beta, since it was equipped under active abilities in the screenshot, and not under passive traits.

Was in the Alpha, yeah, as Sol pointed out. The only thing you could put in your offhand in the Alpha was Shields iirc and this didn't allow the unlock for use of your left hand. (Although, in Beta, you can be "left handed" yes?)

The plan is perpetual servers. There are no plans to add additional testers from the alpha swarm initially, but the expansion to 10 servers went pretty easily. [Since there is a character wipe,] Once the initial alpha tester swarm settles, we'll add more testers.

You can plan on a few weeks+ before anymore invites go out. Maybe even longer :/
