I'd be surprised if that stays for release though, since it would allow someone to gain access to any area without traveling anywhere by getting someone who has been there to teleport them.

I was wondering, because there is no difference between party teleport and single player teleport if you can only go to visited crystal. I guess it prevent fuck up but that's it.

I'm not sure getting waypoint easily would be a huge deal. With teleport cost, getting all of them would probably end up taking longer than running around. Getting other city could be useful, but I dont see it being a big issue, unless they want separate economy in every city again.

I'm pretty sure the cities will be far enough apart that teleporting won't be possible. With the new system cost more anima the further you travel, and only have 100 anima, I can see them making a city to city teleport cost more than 100 anima, therefore making it impossible.

Otherwise, there would be almost no point in adding other forms of transport like airships etc.

Alternatively they might make it cost exactly 100 anima, meaning you can only do it once per (insert however long it takes to get 100 anima), and only if you don't teleport or return at all in the meantime.

I guess its something we won't know for sure for some time yet.

The whole teleport system sounds like it'll be used for traveling inside regions, not from one region to another.

One possibility could be that each region has a "hub" camp of sorts (or in the case of La Noscea, Lominsa) where you can return to and access other regions (if you don't want to walk/use chocobo that is). Airships maybe?

I forgot about the increasing cost, you're probably right.

I really hope the "cooldown" (refill time) won't be much longer than 30 minutes or so. Being stranded in the middle of nowhere is rarely fun.

30mins for 1 anima sounds realistic enough.

Even then, if you can get a personal mount at some point (which is quite likely) you could use that to get to the nearest hub and use airship or something (XIV's outpost warps?) to get to town.

I feel that the instant teleport won't be the primary way of moving around for anyone that plays the game longer than an hour a day. The real casuals will probably not be limited by the anima but for the rest of us, there'll be some other forms of travel for sure since anima won't probably replenish fast enough.

Meh, they need to get that beta going already >_>.

Until we get into the beta, guessing how long it takes to regen anima or other restrictions on teleports is pretty pointless, however you only need 2 anima to return, so even if it takes an 3 hours to refill from 0 to 100, thats only a 3 and a half minute wait til you can use return if you completely run out.

One thing I noticed playing was that when you talk to an atheryte to recharge hp/mp, you set your HP there. I always left my HP in jeuno because it was easier to move around the world from. Hopefully they don't force you to set your HP every time you refill. Alternately, they might have a few "free" teleports, because it would suck to have to waste half your anima just getting back to the airship dock.

Also, re: airships, I'm going to scream if I have another 5 years of missing airships by .2 seconds and having to wait for another 5 minutes for the next one.

The main changes I see are:
    1) some inland lakes/ponds were removed. On the original map, look just southeast of the #3. Those 2 lakes are gone on the new map. Other small ponds disappeared as well.
    2) Removed large variations in color. Tried to stick with similar color greens (probably so its easier to read)

With the solo friendly nature of the game, hopefully there will always be something to either kill, gather, craft, or look for while waiting for these potentially-long teleporting timers.

I'm not really worried about that issue, at least compared to others.

    I wonder.
If we can only access and activate Guildleves in the major cities and/ore have to unload materials periodically without a way to effectively store or sell them in the boonies, then being in a remote area will be an obvious disadvantage. However, if we have no real reason to return to civilization and the local landscape is varied enough (in terms of scenery and monsters), then living out of an outpost might not be that bad.

A lot of MMOs force the idea that you have to be somewhere centralized to conveniently access most content. This means your start and end points in a day are always the same. FFXIV's Aetheryte create a situation in which you reset your Home Point every time you change hunting grounds. You can start in one area and finish in another. Done right, this could give the impression of a large world even without it being physically bigger than another game.

Grouping together isn't even really an issue, since the destination won't be the city (necessarily). It's just the guildleve situation that could keep people from straying too far from town. In that case, 100% refill time could be as long as guildleve refresh (give or take).

There still needs to be SOME reason for everyone to return to the big cities eventually... otherwise, the big cities will be empty and that will make things, in general, seem less alive. Sure, there could be basic necessities such as mail, vendors, perhaps even a map based AH system of sorts where you could sell things that might be useful to people on the map, but larger ticket items might sell better in the city, where the AH system (assuming there even IS one) may extend further.

Perhaps they could just have various things to do in the cities as well-- besides the occasional quest/mission and basic needs (mog house, mail, AH, etc.)

I just updated my beta application and was able to submit the code from FFXIII without having to check the "Interested in PS3 beta testing" box. I was under the impression that you could only use the code and select the PS3 checkbox -- also I am aware some people that did enter the code and checked the PS3 beta box did get into the Alpha test. However, I thought this would be good to know for all those people that were just sitting on their special code, like me.

Hmm... I can't log into the website right now (NA) It keeps kicking me back to the login screen saying I need a tester account. So I went to my services page under the SE login, XIV is still there. Website down again? Also, I noticed this while i was on the services page:

Service/option name Date registered/purchased End date
FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Mar. 10, 2010 ---
    Basic Account Mar. 10, 2010 Jul. 8, 2010

Thanks for this, maybe I'll update mine with my code also.

edit: Actually, how did you update your beta application? I thought you might go through the same way as when you originally created it but it just started having me fill out and empty form again, rather than just update the information.

I had to just fill it in again. I logged in with my SE membership and it gave me a fresh beta signup page.
