It blurs the background if enabled, requires a good graphics processor..

Here's a question that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. Did they get rid of that terrible ass collision detection crap from FFXI? Running into people and slowing you down is the dumbest thing ever.

Umm.. not really. You can't run through people - you'll stop if you come in contact with them.

This is FFXI-2: I wouldn't expect every "problem" to have been addressed. Seems they want this stuff the way it is.

Frankly, I'm on the fence with the whole running into people thing.

One the one hand, it gets kind of annoying. On the other, I can understand the 'realism' argument.

At any rate, I can see it being less of a problem with more people soloing.

Another question. I know some people kind of rigged the benchmark to force crossfire/sli to work. What are the chances that crossfire/sli will work for FF14 retail? This has always been a major concern for me and why I never went sli even though I bought a motherboard and psu that supports it.

Sorry if I missed this, but how are the controls in the game? Can it be controlled with only the keyboard like in FFXI? I really liked that aspect.

EDIT: Also, have they mention advantages of being a certain race? Lalafell having extra INT, etc etc?

Anyone else have trouble with the gamepad configuration? It seems it won't let me change any of the axis values this time around...

Check to make sure Windows is registering commands when you move the analog sticks. They may have gotten turned off somehow. The config worked fine for me.

Also make sure you have the correct controller selected at the top of the configuration menu.

    Extremly Dumb question about achievements

Ok I know that people surely cannot give a 100% answer because the game is still in beta

    But what I wanna know

From your Alpha experiences, do you think FFXIV can be fun to play and accomplish alot of stuff in game if you play like 10-20h per week max?

I know in FFXI you couldn't get much items and all if your playtime was limited, but I wonder if FFXIV would be a bit different on that side.

    Any opinions?

Too tough to say this early on, based on what I've played of the Alpha. In some ways, I enjoyed the solo progression, especially getting rewarded with armor and weapons from doing repeatable guildelves, but on the other hand, the in-place buying system for alpha was so slow, clunky and CPU-intensive (CPU spiked to 100% every time the game had to load a previous menu when dealing with inventory or NPC shops) that it just felt faster to go out and solo for my gear than to actually buy it in stores.

We'll see if that aspect changes during beta.

I'd say overall its very small time friendly, but your not gonna achieve stuff as fast as the people playing a lot of time, you can def make progress on like 2 hours of play a day though. and at least at start, just dong lev quest gets you either the gear or the money you need to buy gear from npcs

didnt matter, it wasnt a client side thing, the selling/buying of items was insanely broken buying/selling almost seemed to crash the game. it made selling /thorwing away items really annoying. buying isnt as bad because although it takes long, you prolly didnt have to buy like 10 dif things. I really hope/expect that to be fixed by beta, it was really really bad.

my cpu never spiked playing this game, but it still got super slow, his cpu spiking was prolly from the almost crash that happened, you d actually have like the game do a mini freeze and your working mouse thing would come up.

I think even in ffxi you could get stuff done on 20 hours a week if you were using your time well, assuming you were at lv 75 and had a ls filled with people you (mostly) got along with. You couldn't do everything (or go after the kings 24/7), but 20 hours would be enough time to pick and choose a few things to go after - especially later on in the game when limbus/salvage/einherjar came out. All of those had some decent stuff to go after, with a reasonably small time investment. You could do that and have a tiny bit of time left over for sky or sea or meriting if you weren't busy trying to level your 2nd/3rd/4th/5th/etc job to 75 for fun.

I doubt ff14 requires a /larger/ time investment. So purely guessing, I'd say it's perfectly worth playing if you only have 20 hours a week. Just don't be shocked if other people can go after more, or get more in fewer weeks.

That's exactly what it was from. My brother kept scratching his head while I was trying to toss things out of my inventory like "why the hell does it keep not responding for a second there?"

It was a client-side issue, not a PC issue. The spiking came from the near-crashing that occurred, just like he said.

Had the only controller on the system selected, and it worked flawlessly in XI. Not like I'm in the beta though, so it's not too terribly important yet, just wanted the issue to be raised at SE if others were having it happen.

edit: I used this controller in the alpha, however I have since reformatted the hard drive.

Now that I think on it, I had some issues with my 360 controller once or twice where it didn't respond at all. At first I thought it was a driver problem so I tried unplugging/replugging and rebooting-- I still don't really know what the problem was. Eventually it worked again with no apparent intervention from me.
