FFXIV Random Speculation/Question thread III: Where's my beta invite?

I don't want to see a situation where gear you get next year will still be the best 6-7 years later, but nor do I want to see it being useless after the next expansion. I reckon two expansions (3-4 years) is a good medium unless it's something equivalent to relic weapon difficulty.

I really hope they don't scrap the open beta. I've not been caring much whether I got in the alpha or initial betas but it would be nice to get some play on it before release.

Maybe the Open Beta will be PS3 only to make up for the PS3 version's delay.

I love the game, but the more I think of what was wrong in it, the more irritated I get. They expect all of this to be magically fixed before beta, then expect that nothing will go wrong between beta and launch?

Ugh.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot another point of frustration: The time limit on the return/reward crystal when doing guildelves, and how quickly it fades away. If you're soloing or grouping in a guildelve, and someone dies, chances are they won't make it back to the reward crystal before it vanishes, which contains all of the exp, money, and item rewards. This annoys me to no end. They should either revive you if you win, or keep the crystal there until everyone has interacted with it. Its annoying to spend 30 minutes on a quest, FINISH the quest, have another mob take you out after you win, and come away with absolutely nothing for your time.

Pshh, its ACed at the office; I'm super chill, its just a retarded feature, that's all, especially when it takes a solid 30 seconds JUST to port back to your last save crystal and hoof it on foot with no speed buffs back to the crystal which could be half a map away and will vanish in roughly a minute and thirty seconds.

Where was he bitching about how long it took to get anywhere? He was bitching about how he could spend 30 mins doing a quest, and if he happens to die at the very end of it, all that 30 mins was a waste because there was no possible way for him to get to the crystal with his rewards, because it despawns so quickly.

I wonder if they have fixed (assuming this was broken) how you lose your progress on guildleves when you DC, I was under the impression from one of the very old interviews that some guild levels would take several days to complete.

Totally agree with what Lucavi was getting at, there is nothing worse than your efforts going to waste over something so silly, can you not hand the quest in at one of the big Aetherite crystals ?

You can go to the crystal you got the leve from in the first place to get rewards (happened to me when I died after finished one).

I'm not sure about any crystal working though, which would make it annoying for ones which you can't transport to, and I did manage to make it before the portal closed so that could do with testing as well.

bout the getting copper later, there were also mobs that dropped ores, im guessing it was the copper coblyn. 2 things though yall should remember, your supposed to report your problems issues and bugs, and secondly you really have no idea what is or isnt fixed in the beta. Im not saying it will all be ready, but if you dont report it, then its pointless to bitch about it not being fixed.

by teh way delay on switching classes is drawing your weapon, so id say like 3 seconds

I'm 90% sure you don't need to use the node to get your rewards. The node only appears as an easy way to teleport back to the main crystal.

When you click the crystal afterwards, you don't get your reward. You don't get anything special, just the guildelve option to do another that you have queued that you haven't yet done.

That's how it was for me, though.

So, don't know if this has been asked or not, but what do you think endgame will be? The type where one expansion makes your shit obsolete, as in wow? Or ffxi where your byakko haidate from 04 still work well?

Personally, I want both. I want gear that can be replaced every once in a while (though honestly, purely aesthetic gear would be fine with me), but I also want to be obtaining items that don't lose their usefulness often at all.

Some of you are probably sick of hearing about it, but I'd like a system with the traditional gear grid, as well as a charm/talisman/materia/whatever grid with sidegrades that you collect over the years and tend to retain their value.

I saw there were screen shots of the settings pages for Video, does the Window Size drop down box allow you to select custom resolutions? I'm curious because I play on a TV and after adjusting for over-scan my resolutions are a bit smaller than the normal ones.
