Oh wow, epic fail on me. Anyone have a link to said story?

Its even more specific than tactics, at least in terms of the action skills that each class has. Sure, you could take the magic attack up from a black mage, or the counter magic and just that, but if you wanted to lob death from above, you had to actually pick the entire black mage subset as a category.
In FFXIV, if you want cure, you just take cure. You're not being forced to sub the entire set of spells. Same with the melee jobs. If you want JUST speed surge, you can take it, provided you've already attained it on your lancer and you've hit the same level with your new job that you gained it with lancer.
Its better than FFT and worse at the same time, because I don't know if they're going to allow us to rip entire job traits, like defense up, attack up, countering, dual wielding, ect. It's still a pretty nifty system, though, and so long as the speed of battle remains fluid and at a quick pace, I'm going to love it.
basically you can steal all or most skills from other jobs, you could actually run around with a pugilist with all of lancers skills. you can equip anything you have learned, up to your current level bar a few job specific abilities. So far only the basic attacks are job specific on disciplines of war.
Essentially what your really deciding with weapon is what type of armor you want to be able to use, and what type of weapon you want to use, the skills you can mix and match.
i will say that most skills seem to work better on main, what i usually noticed was accuracy problems, but some may be power or effiecency, im pretty sure chakra hgealed more on main. cure was single target.
Shit, Lancer as a whole is inaccurate as shit. I hope they get an accuracy bonus, because there were fights where I whiffed 5 times in a row, even when rotating and staying behind and to the sides of the mob.
it's a good thing. I want the good lancers to learn to hit and the bad ones to go away, because God knows I'm not tanking/healing (haven't decided yet) a pull for 5 minutes because no one can get their shit straight.
man I can't wait for this game.
Wait, how can you "learn to hit", when its entirely dependent on random accuracy checks?
I mean learning how to compensate/be the most effective you can be.
Ah, well yeah, that goes without saying. My gladiator missed far less frequently than my lancer, but I guess its a given considering weapons have their accuracy rating listed right in the stats page.
I suppose that's going to be a deviation from Dragoon to Lancer. Drgs were slow, strong, and had high acc, but piss poor defense. Lancers are slow, strong, and have low acc, but good defense and good survivability.
Probably the same way you had a limited amount of slots mixed with a ghetto rip of how Blue Mage worked in XI. (Action Points or something with Action in it, Where different abilities like Poke Face lv9 from a lancer cost 30AP vs lv2 Poke Face which cost 10AP and you can only stock 100APs worth of moves)
Hmm... so long as there some way to boost accuracy on the main Lancer job, I'm fine with it.
That shit was just mind-numbingly grating in the Alpha, when you combine the slow speed with 5 whiffs with a lance and watch the enemy take you from 90 to 5% health and there isn't a thing you can do about it.
also misses suck a lot more since they have so many tp based skills, that you can use, and 5 attacks would probably have given you 2000 tp, so yeah lancer was like ehhhhhhhh. only thing i can figure is maybe they are supposed to be at a lil range, but solo you end up retreating constantly doing that, cause some mobs will always try to get really close to you.
All I know is that they made positioning matter more in the Beta, supposedly. Hopefully that means better Acc.
My MAR whiffed like crazy too.
Seriously SE stop sending me emails that aren't a beta invite. Yesterday 3 emails about fucking lara croft and today they tell me i can preorder ffxiv. FUSE
Write an Angry letter I'll sign it or find a way to cancel my newsletter subscription.
As far as accuracy wait a day and see if beta really changed anything.
Nothings stupider than watching Ghost get gibbed by an easy prey bat, because he was forced to change classes to Whiffmaster.
Positioning made like a 4-5% difference in damage, I saw, just looking at my numbers on-hand, and really, you could only tell the difference when critting. I couldn't tell much about acc, as I wasn't parsing, so I'm more inclined to believe that positioning is more about breaking parts of mobs than hitting for huge numbers, unless they have a thief-type ability for some class.
pugilist gets a more attack from behind skill, annnd i think lancer gets a trick attack. i doubt they are guaranteed hits. It may have been/or might become that say lnc gets best acc standing 2 steps away from mobs, problem is, if the mobs is a close hitter, it will always try to get close to you, or if it has a close range tp move, but really i havent seen anything to prove that they get an acc penalty close, except early interviews saying they work best at midrange or something similar.
heh i did 3-4 every time i did leves later on lol. i think your marauder prolly wiffed, but your lancer would have reeeeaaallly wiffed. lucavi isnt inaccurate when hes saying 5 misses in a row, i saw the same type of thing happen, and this was with like a base level of 17-18 with a decent buff of dex and agility. It was really kind of sad
Did anyone have problems finding a parties during alpha testing? That was one of the first things I wanted to do was to join up in a party and test that aspect and over two full test sessions, I never saw a party greater than 2 and even then I only saw a handful of those (granted I started alpha in the last week). Hoping the reset into beta will encourage people to party up since ever is back to 0. Soloing was cool for a bit, but that only lasts for so long and then exploring the open plains became much more appealing.
Gonna make tanking much easier if its one of the few jobs you don't have to worry about spotting.
