Macros should take care of equipment, and hopefully they'll expand it to skill allocation as well.

Yeah instead of just macros they should take the time to make a locker system where you can setup armor and abilities for jobs ahead of time. That would be far more intuitive then just macros and simpler.

Wouldn't that allow people to instantly change jobs on the fly during battles, something SE is trying NOT to allow to happen?

I was under the impression that they want us to actually have to think about switching jobs, and if we try to do it in battle, to accept a penalty for changing (being out of the battle for a set period of time by route of passive >> menu >> item switch >> job switch >> re-gear >> close menu >> active >> re-engage mob).

Being able to do all of this with even LESS than a macro swap, which would still take time, seems to be going in the direct opposite direction that SE wants us to take. It also sniffs of the very "twitch gaming" (IE. speed and fluidity + reaction-based instead of information-based) that many FFXI fans "claim" to abhor WoW for.

As for me, I'm somewhere in the middle of it all. Some twitch is nice, and some slow chess is nice, but for me, it's all about that shitty latency delay. SE manages to drop that and everything becomes possible. Without getting rid of that (and FFXI had that same stupid delay), things are slow and cumbersome when you have to do anything that's outside of pressing numbered keys for skills.

Don't ever say such things again.

You can change jobs on the fly outside of combat in XIV, but unless your at the time frame to re-allocate attribute points you will prolly be severely gimped in that role (ex: going from caster to melee)

changing eqp isn't the biggest of deals, but having to re-allocate your spells/abilities is a pita. They got a lot of feedback about this in alpha so I'm hoping it just remembers your last set per job

Whats the CD on passive to active mode?

Also you can change when your out of combat anyways not sure what's wrong with that. As for the going passive in the middle of a fight I thought that was bug.

The cooldown is like 2-3 seconds; sometimes more, depending on how many people are around you.

The message for it can also repeat itself a few times if the server is congested, even if you only click it once.

Going passive in the middle of a fight is supposed to be a bug? Its a pretty big bug, then, considering that all you have to do is press the F key and presto, your weapon is on your back or on your hip. I typically went passive in the middle of running from an enemy if I was going to get my ass kicked in a fight.

Afaik it's how it's supposed to work, not a bug. That is you can go into passive mode while in combat, but you still won't be able to change weapon etc. since you have the "in combat" status.

A hat? >.< I don't remember if we had it's english name (meaning it was available in the alpha) but it's a normal equipment item.

The macro thing is interesting and I think needed because there were times I was going to craft when weak and I was just like mannnnn takes to long to re equip gears.

On the other hand this means the only thing delaying gear swaps is active/passive mode which is like 2-3 secs. It may actually be interesting. but people will definately use it in battle, heck I did it once when it looked like I picked a fight with the wrong mob. Mage to melée mid fight? yup it's comin

Was there a need to equip any gears (aside from weapon) when crafting in the first place? lol

Oh damn I assumed there would be some sort of a cooldown where you couldn't fight mobs for a few minutes after switching classes. Don't like the sound of this...

No, but there's an "in-combat"/"out of combat" situation where you can't switch jobs and whatnot until you're out of combat (I.E. when the monster loses interest in you and begins to roll back to their original area.

That might end up putting a monkey wrench in people's plans to actually switch jobs while engaged in combat. I can't remember if there was anything in FFXI that couldn't be done while people were actively in combat, but in WoW, once the first person in your party/alliance starts fighting, that's it. You can no longer use items more than once per fight and a bunch of other limitations.

If FFXIV is working on a system that sounds similar (restrictions on what you can/can't do based on your "engaged" status with the monster, even if you've gone into passive mode and are trying to remove yourself from the battle), it looks like people won't be switching constantly.

There might be ways around it: dying, then reviving and switching, zoning out or running out of a monster's engage radius, or something like that. We'll be able to test this easily enough in Beta tomorrow, though.

I was actually referring to the program it's self. It looks like some kind of stat/model viewer. But they blocked out the title of the program. All I can tell from the icon is "data FFXI"

The newest beta build, July 9th, now gives an error when alt-tabbing out, instead of just crashing. This could either mean that SE does not intend the player to ever alt-tab out of the game, or SE did not fix this glitch yet and just pop up an error message. I hope its the latter.

because you arent completely submerged in the game?

or at least i think that was their reasoning behind taking so long to make a legit windower.
