No delay between passive and active = biggest and best change so far, IMO.
Can't wait to get my turn tonight! I'll post comprehensive results on what I find.

30 fps feels slow. compare halo 3 to mw2. which feels faster? mw2. after playing a lot of mw2 and going back to halo 3 it feels like you can slow down time.
Doesn't 3D effect require 60fps to work though? That's what they were using at E3 weren't they?
admin: removed for crashing pcs with bad ram and NDA
I'm guessing its this one, so won't expect it to change.in that the 30fps cap isn't due to optimization targets, but that it's directly related to things like movement speed.
You also play as the same races wandering through identical zones fighting identical mobs and talking to identical NPCs. When you're bored you go into your linkshell (/company) and talk to your friends while you sit in the lovechild of Bastok and Jeuno. You decide you are going to fish, so instead of simply taking out your fishing rod, you now have to equip it and you become a fisherman (behold the armoury system!). After you catch your fish you decide you want to sell it for gil, so you put it in your identical bazaar. Unfortunately nobody buys it, so you decide to put it on the auct- excuse me- give it to a servant (likely a male mi'qote just to grind some gears) and you go on your merry way.
A bit of sarcasm, but the games have an eerily similar amount in common. I don't think the OP was angry, just making a statement.
Feels far smoother and responsive and less strain on the eyes to me.
Before I got hooked on MMO's I used to play FPS alot on the PC, around 2000 iirc it all started with half-life/cs and became custom to noticing fps, I certainly can notice the difference between 30-60 and even 100 fps (it just feels far smoother and responsive.)
Now I'm sure it makes a bigger difference in first person shooters obviously but I also played WoW for a while and even had that running at 100 fps was a massive difference to me to lets say 60 fps.
So yes it does make a huge difference and I see no reason why it should be capped to 30 fps anymore, though this might only be for the beta.
I guess I just want a definitive answer now but it isn't going to happen so I will get over it and wait! =D
The smoothness is huge. Hell, even 45 FPS compared to 30 is a major upgrade. A great way to test it is to play a FPS and look straight up at the sky or straight down at the ground (on a PC). Move forward and take a look at how the frames on the ground work. Very, very smooth. Then look straight ahead and keep moving. You'll see more choppiness.
You can do it in WoW as well. Look straight down at the ground while mounted and driving. You'll get like 50-95 FPS, and it'll be the smoothest thing around, then look forward. Most good rigs'll get like 45-60 FPS, and you can easily, EASILY tell the difference with your eyes. The better the monitor, the easier it is to tell the difference as well.
Console players I guess really can't tell since things are always capped, but anyone that's played real PC games in the last 5 years can easily tell. Having a so-called next-gen MMO that's supposed to herald in the new golden age of standards running at a capped 30 FPS is pathetic.
Or it could be they capped it for testing purposes so some people don't try to flex the shit out of all their settings, then complain the game is lagging for them or some such nonsense. Report the issue, see what they have to say. It could very well be this phase is meant more for gameplay issues and not graphical issues.
Just like how WoW and WC3 have eerily similar amount in common... and do you call WoW WC3 v2?
"Visuals are the same! Update notes are the same! This is FFXI v2!"
Hell yeah!
Every MMO has these so called "pathetic" elements you speak of. Is it a good excuse? No. But that's how it is.Having a so-called next-gen MMO that's supposed to herald in the new golden age of standards running at a capped 30 FPS is pathetic.
Gonna spend more time in character creation than playing the game I imagine
Now you're sounding like me, Hyan! I must be rubbing off on you! The difference here is that FFXIV is a brand-new MMO, heralded as the new age, so it shouldn't be falling into hilariously old habits of a decade ago, and more importantly; they still have time to change it.
Its beta. I don't mind it being here, but if this shit falls into launch with people posting threads about it, it truly becomes "pathetic".
This is like the 3rd time I've seen you use this argument. WC3 is a RTS game, WoW took the lore of that game and made it into a MMORPG. That is a absolutely, positively, 100% original. You don't think a Super Mario MMORPG would be original (obviously I don't see how it would work)? FFXIV took an 8 year old MMORPG, buffed it up, made it easier and claimed it was a totally new game, even giving us the shpeal about "a land blessed by the god of virtue", etc. I just gave you like 10 major characteristics that either simply have a new name (or no name change at all), or have a more extravagant way of going about them. They are still the same though. A hamburger is still a hamburger no matter what order you put the lettuce and tomato.
I think it's more the fact that people keep trying to find tiny discrepancies between the games so they can tell themselves they are playing a completely new game.
Still looks amazing though!
So...you can change the color of each eye individually? If so, does that apply to all races? Only one I could distinctly see was the Taru.
