Cheating at what, DoF is a advanced graphics effect :S

well you ve seen the alpha pictures... the castle and cliffs textures felt wrong like oversized and oddly shadowed. it looks to me like that the blur effect is just a way to make those ugly textures accepted

i wonder how this dof will perform with 3d vision. eyes are supposedly able to focus in the distance, this constant blur might get annoying

I went in there to see if there were any retainers up but it was completely empty. Couldn't find a search function of any sort either but maybe that's because there were no one in there?

Also, anyone else experienced a nasty FPS drops while not staring at the ground? I have decent computer who scored 5075 on high with the Benchmark but it just can't handle FFXIV even on lower settings. It wasn't constant, just came for a second or two once in a while when I was running around. I wasn't using Ambient Occlusion or Depth of Field either. While I was in combat everything worked very smoothly.

It is 9EST. I just tried logging on to no avail, and there's a 3-hour cooldown between tests I think.

No, that wasn't affecting anything. If I was standing around a huge group of people (towns/aetherytes) it was still working fine as long as I didn't move and looked out over any greater distances. A friend who runs on a much worser system had the same issues but that could be because of his computer. Just want to find more people with the same problems or I'll start to worry.

Zubis, at 1920x1080 with a pc that scored 3700 I got 15-20fps. This didn't change MUCH when changing to a lower res, but it did change. 15-20fps is playable. The problem is that it just starts jerking around when you lose about 2-3 fps. So I jump all over the map. I'm going to upgrade to an X6 and see if that performs better, but if your pc scored 5k+ then I imagine it's poor optimization.

Although was capable to play easy (fight, quest, explore etz) but sometimes the game would go in a "lag" (due my pc) mode for some secs.

And yes as ppl mentioned in others forums pugilist is a punch punch punch nonstop until the gauge bar is empty, rly rly fun and fast. However the status which you start are lower than Alpha, like alpha been 50per status and on beta only 15.

I saw 2 blue chests, they contained 100gil. There's no notification they just appear. I also got a few odd items. Sheepskin +1 drop, and a Puk skin +3. Seems like HQ items will be more common, no more luck based HQ synths.

In game you can drop shadows of charac., dusk effect(footsteps), physyc or w/e is called (if i'm not wrong that for the enviroment of trees etz) and "far drawing models" or something like that ( basically the drawdistance of windower in FFXI. It removes trees, rocks etz that are not needed as terrain when you look far for enhance performance).

Surely there will be / has to be some limit?

Yeah. I hope there's some limit. At the same time I'm really hoping it's done in a way that lets you change it up when you realize that setting A was actually awful, or that the game has moved on in such a way that setting C is just better. Or when you want to change charachters/jobs/roles. Sounds really fun if SE managed to come up with a good but not overbearing limitation.

I'm loving all these screenshots too.... can't wait till Sept 22nd ;;.
