I don't feel like reading every board for a fix, but how do you turn camera with keyboard now? The arrow werent working like they did in the alpha and ffxi, and the mouse is just godawful.
Also, when I tried moving around like I do in wow (wasd+mouse), the w would occasionally stop working for no reason.
So what kind of FPS is everyone getting with a 5800 series of GPU?
Just a thought, aren't Lancer's designed to attack from behind/side ? according to the mock up picture SE released a few months back.
They said that Beta would usher in new tactics where direction and distance would be involved perhap Lancer see's an accuracy down effect if they are attacking from the front ?
Probably not, but speculation non the less.![]()
WHAT else? Logging? Sure. Mining? Sure. Grinding? Uhh... Crafting? No leves, so good luck finding mats and finding the money to buy mats.
Give me this super long list of shit to do when most everything outside of gathering professions and the main quest line is unavailable. Hell, the party system itself is borked, so its not like you can just team up with 5 guys and go prancing 'round the map.
Active/Passive mode is fine it just needs to be refined. You should be able to draw/sheath your weapon while moving, and commands to do this shouldn't stack, so you can't get stuck in a loop of drawing/sheathing.
Speaking of which something I never tested in Alpha really was magic, they mentioned some spells will be able to be casted while moving. I'm guessing some means "a small tiny pitiful amount" but I'm hoping it means nearly all spells.
FFXII had a great spell system, you could initiate a spell while moving, fill up the cast bar then you stop to cast the spell and continue moving. I would like to see this for most if not all of the spells in XIV but I know I won't. Then again I'd also like to see my spells originate from a point and move to their target instead of just appearing on the target, I feel a little cheated they're still doing that crap in XIV after they did moving spells on PS3 in XII.
Anyways my question was, how many if any spells can be cast while moving?
(It would also be nice if when you were casting a spell that you couldn't move while casting if it locked movement unless you hit some sort of cancel button... Interrupting your own spells stupidly is absolutely obnoxious.)
You have to keep in mind the connotation of grinding, though. Grinding is only a grind when it's not fun anymore. Killing lots of monsters to level up isn't inherently a grind-- doing the same thing over and over without any challenge or thought, as if you're working on a factory line-- that's what makes it a grind.
So yeah, every MMO involves grinding, but by design rather than inevitability. Not that it's realistic to expect that there won't be some grinding in an MMO, but it's at least possible if there's enough complexity and tactical depth built into the system.
But on the subject of XIV, it doesn't strike me as anywhere even remotely in the ballpark of the grind that was XI.
I don't think moving has affected my spells, but I'm not sure actually since I tend to stand still. It seems like spells are just like any other ability, except they have a cast time and cost MP.
As for Active/Passive, it could be fine, but it just doesn't really add much to the game. We're talking about a game that people will play for hundreds of hours and even days, a game that is supposed to be tactical rather than twitchy. I would much rather see them add some interesting battle mechanic that is activated with the R1 button than have a "durr durr take out weapon put away weapon" button.
somehow double posted.
What do people base this off of?
There are complaints in the JP forums also, but arguably, they take a more suggestive than chastising tone. I'm not going to speculate how different the posts are as I also can't see what it's like on NA.
No one has reported trying a top difficult leve, but then I don't know that EU or NA didn't also deal with an hour of lobby server issues (to which there were a great many "I'm going to shower/cook/try again later" and well, Retry festival/##th attempt to log in/errorerrorerror posts) that probably stymied overall testing.
The game looks beautiful but I must say I'm disappointed in the guildleve system. I hate to compare games but I'm going to anyways..
WoW uses a quest based leveling system. From 1-80 you have thousands of quests so you never have to stop and "grind" on mobs to level up. Some would argue (and I agree) that quest leveling is nothing more than disguised grinding but at least it adds variety, additional rewards (gear and gold), and helps guide you to the next area/mobs appropriate for your level.
Obviously a quest based leveling system will not work in FFXIV due to the armory system, but that's what I thought the Guildlevel system was designed for.
By the way SE talked about leves I thought this was their answer to the quest leveling system of other games. I thought it would be the main form of leveling; that you could do one after another for as long as you wanted. It makes me sad to find out they are just daily quests, or in this case, every other day quests.
I have a feeling it's going to be a nightmare on release day when everyone has finished their 2-3 leves and then 1000 people run around fighting each other over rat spawns.
My opinion is that we Americans are whiny cuntbags because we care and that is how we express it. We know the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Looking in from the outside, Japanese players are more "complacent" when it comes to their criticism and it shows in recent years that far too many Japanese developers, SE or otherwise, don't want to innovate(look at the state of JRPGs today).
Anyway NA and EU players have a greater chance to affect the games development earlier in its cycle so I say try as hard as you can, no one should accept anything as "good enough".
