They can't base a monetary system on a beta as there isn't enough players to have a stable economy, like I said before we won't really know how the whole money thing pans out until people are crafting and swapping gil via retainers and even then its on a small scale.

From my understanding barely anyone used a reatiner, mainly because they had nothing of value to sell, is too early to make a judgement after 4 hours of play.
That's the problem, though. What's the point of limiting it in Beta unless Launch is going to follow the exact same system as Beta?

I'm operating under the assumption that what we have now is not going to be exactly the same at Launch. I cannot see them having a successful launch with the money-making system as stringent as it is now. You cannot even find armor to purchase! There is nothing to buy but food, a few weapons, a few shields, and crafting mats. You think everything is going to be wonderful and perfect when people can finally craft armor? Human players are going to control the entire armor market, which means there's going to be hyper-inflation right off the back. They're going to charge whatever people can pay, which, at the moment, is only about 3k; what you make from completing the starter chain.

Launch isn't going to be this tight-fisted, and launch is where we're going to see exploits popping up because they didn't allow the same level of launch freedom at beta, when they could EXAMINE the exploits and institute fixes. They're going to be behind the curve at launch should an exploit arrive because they can't just roll back servers, and what's done is done, assuming they don't just purge people's bank accounts.

Let the horses run wild right now, examine where and why the horses are running, then design the track around what you observe. Don't pen them up now before the race, only to let them out at launch and then act surprised at what you see.

If the gil flows it will be worthless especially with no central economy (hi lack of AH), and being player ran....

We really can't expect people to be generous with prices when they can literally sell anything for whatever they want. So SE will make gil hard to come by in massive amounts, but they will no doubt make it tons easier than XI. There has to be some kind of control or people will run rampant.

Well first of all I want to thank every single one of you FFXIV Alpha/Beta Testers who are reading this now. Final Fantasy XI was developed with no NA input whatsoever. And the game ran for a little over a year before NA/EU even started. Then the game started changing quite nicely due to all the input though it wasn't as massive as a change compared to what is going on with the FFXIV Beta.

This MMO because of all of your input, is going to be the best tailored gamed to the masses since ever pretty much. It will cater to every kind of player you can think of. And it's all thanks to all the NA/EU/JP testers submitting feedback. Thank you. I want this game to be the best MMO and succeed from day one and prosper for years to come.

Maybe more companies will learn from Square Enix how to develop a MMO the right way and take input from every single citizen of the World and take advantage of it and cater to everyone. Maybe other MMOs have done this, maybe they haven't; but this one is turning out to be the best one I have ever known. Thanks guys.

I'm probably the last person to use the "it's only beta" excuse, but come the fuck on, people. There is no way we can make any judgments on the sagacity of a 2 day leve limit in beta. We are practically guaranteed to have at minimum 6 times the number of available leves on release (DoL/DoH leves ~double it, two other cities triple that). And that's assuming they add absolutely zero new DoW leves between now and then.

Really they just need to fix the wonky movement/camera stuff, I see that as the only really serious extant issue.

I see your point, but you aren't going to see those explots popping up mainly because its pointless for RMT to be looking for them (or players for that matter) and the population is so small that there isn't enough people to find them.

I think they removed a lot of the armour and weapons because the beta phase is where they want to implement crafting, seems they are behind on that though because they have had to remove the crafting leves last minute.

Removing the crafting leve's has probably had a bigger effect on this beta than you minute at first realise.

Don't forget the godawful mouse. I do think people are reading into the whole gill thing too much. The game won't last or even work if there is no centralized economy, because humans fuck things up, as evidenced in the real life economy, past, present and surely in the future.

Do you guys really like the exp questing system anyway?

If say, over time, questing give 50% of exp of making a traditional FF11 exp party, people will still prefer questing over exp party to avoid grouping headaches.

I know this is the case in WOW, people mostly do quests to level to the cap.

Obviously both has pros and cons.

Party force you to bound with other players and learn party mechanics, where as questing is easy on the go, progress your character anywhere, anytime.

Honestly don't know if it's good or bad. If it's too much like WOW, it will suck. My friend draw me to WOW and I level to 70 and I quit after a month. Getting to max level require no skill, but just time... so you don't feel any accomplishment at all. At level 70 I am still a noob that don't know moves to max my DPS...

Quitting WOW is so easy, as there's no attachment at all... you know your hard earned gear will be trash when next patch comes in.

I worry that FFXI will be too much like WOW, where things are easy come and easy go, no attachment and no bounding.

I'm not really talking about RMT. RMT never bothered me, it was JP crafters that botted to max crafting before NA launch, then held NA in a proverbial choke-hold over supply and demand. This was all long before RMT really became a problem.

My problem isn't with RMT, its with human greed, and exploiting human greed. I'm talking more about them looking at how people manipulate the crafting and selling trade to make mass profits in beta, and taking that info and modifying their own crafting systems, BEFORE launch hits, people find exploits in crafting, and we have an entire repeat of FFXI's early days.

Edit: It shouldn't be hard to quit any game. Its a game. Games are designed for you to pick up and play, and put away when you're done, and come back to later. I don't really care about a FFXI system that awards addiction through supreme levels of masochistic drop-rates and system-oriented virtual chokepoints designed to keep people coming back to the same aery for 6+ years. FFXIV should be exactly what it's turning out to be: a game designed off of FFXI that incorporates what SE has learned after a decade of being in the MMO field. It shouldn't be some virtual homage to all things that made FFXI FFXI, for better or for worse.

I can't believe they would take this step backwards in having no AH. I would like to actually hear about retainer functionality before bitching about it but I think having an AH is like an MMO right.

Sounds like crafting as integral parts of the game seems to be a goal though so I'm guessing there has to be a good way to handle non-direct transactions.

Seeing at how Square Enix dealt with the Salvage duping and banned a shitload of people that took advantage of it and kept up with banning RMT accounts even up til now; I think Square Enix will be very proactive at dealing with people that are taking advantage of exploits. I also assume from the beginning they have built some kind of advanced logging into this new MMO to cut down on a lot of investigation time. I guess it remains to be seen once it launches but I wouldn't count on anyone getting away with game breaking exploits when it comes to making gil/obtaining items.

My best advice is to report all bugs/exploits that you personally find and don't take advantage of them like everyone else might try to do. After all if you are banned you have just wasted $75.00 or $50.00 even before your free 30 days of playing are up. I'll do my best to report everything no matter if it's small like a typo.

    Just have a thought.

The augment system in FFXI is pretty nice and I really like it.

Instead of throwing away the gear you earned, you improve it over time and keep it even when the level cap is raised.

I hope they carry this idea to FF14 endgame.

Please don't be like wow every 3 months your gear is obsolete.

Fair enough RMT aside, the JP's had a whole year before most of us, they would have been in a situation to manipulate us regardless of what exploits they found.

Obviously this time SE have a bit of experience under their belts and I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar crafting model to FF11 (it is ver 2.0 after all )

We are talking about crafting and selling here though which doesn't have a great deal to do with the money you recieve from mobs and leves, which I think is where it originally started.

The thing is, they won't overboard when it came to RMT to a point where it became increasingly difficult to make money. Nerfing vendors/npc's hurts everyone.

Would be a good way to keep whatever appearance you wanted and make older content more valuable in the long run since people might want to get old gear for new "costumes" or whatever. The other route is having a separate gear sheet for just appearance gear and then stat gear slots.

I think SE is fixing this? Theyve already partially addressed the issues with disciples of hand and deteriorating equipment. I dont know if you had crafted, but i found the biggest was a saturation of the market and simple crafts like the hairpins and other stuff. Very rarely, i made money off of weskits, but it was about 32k per synth and it was about 1/50 id HQ. But i met many people that would craft those all day long and the price dropped from 4 mil to 1mil in no time. After I made my hecatomb+1 i really just quit crafting, i made more off selling osodes and other b/s from events.

The problem will come with people getting to job level 4 or so and having nothing they can solo because they're unaware of the importance of defense. This will lead to people saying "well this is shit it's FFXI all over again" and quitting right then and there.
Can't say I made quite that much money but I suppose if I totalled up the costs of sets of equip to get three classes 15+ then it coulda been close. But it was FUN actually having stuff to upgrade.

The problem I foresee with low level play is just what you're saying here. The lack of gear availability was noticeable ranks 1-8. I DID get 3x Hempen Hat, but sadly my character only has one head. Didn't get any other armour loot at all. For people coming from WoW or Aion or wherever, people expect to get upgrades through quests etc. And they expect a CHOICE too.

3x Hempen Hat. Mage gear. With +mage stats. And I was levelling.... PUGILIST. Woo.

Would a choice of gear for Melee/Casters for each leve be a bad idea?
