    BG Opinion on motion control

What is BG's opinion on the advent of motion control?

The Wii started it pretty much, but BG has cryed CASUALLLLSSSSSSSSS etc.

The Playstation move makes it look like your holding two glowing dildos.

The Kinect makes you flail around like a retard in front of a camera that may or may not be a spy program.

So BG, I stand here before you, asking for you opinion.

Will you be buying the Move? The Kinect? Do you plan on buying or do you already own a wii?

Only thing good to come from the Wii remote is semi-accurate aiming without a reticule on a console machine, and that's all I ask for with PS Move, but as things look so far, there isn't really a way to 'aim' with the Move, nor how accurate it would be compared to the Wii's sensor bar setup.

With regards to the Move, I'm specifically hating how it's the $$$ problem all over again like it was with the Wii. Will probably cost $150 just for two Moves and a sub-controller just to ensure you can play every Move-compatible game solo, and that's assuming you already own the PS Eye.

I'll bet money most people who want to play Socom 4 competitively are going to pick up a Move/Subcontroller though is the precision and aiming speed of the Move is equal to that of the Wii remote.

I own a wii and I plan on getting a Move. I like the idea of motion control--to an extent. I think the Kinect crossed the line of possible and practical. Nintendo were the first the do it, and it looks like Son is doing it better. I've always wanted motion controls since I've been little and I'm happy it's here. If you can get precision controls like the MGS:Rising combined with a motion controller oh god I jizz at the though.

I think it's exciting that Sony and Microsoft are copying something Nintendo's already perfected.

Hopefully Nintendo responds by making something worthwhile when the next generation comes out.

The Kinect has amazing potential in my opinion. Shame that potential =/= execution. Hi2u Ryan Leaf

Motion controls - any sort of "light-gun" application not included - remain unspectacular because they do not increase the complexity of input. When it comes to swinging your arms or grabbing things most of these could have been done with sticks or mouses. There are dance games and etc which might used these gadgets better. There is a bigger problem though. Things like input lag and lack of precision can really make all of these efforts pointless. I've yet to play a game with a motion controller that didn't feel dumbed down in terms of input. One that didn't feel like developers were designing around those weak limitations and ending with a result was inferior to control, pad, mouse, etc. (The best use of the Wii I've seen is shaking it and that is pretty pointless. It does nothing a stick or even a button couldn't do. Probably only there in most games because it lacks buttons.)

I honestly see Nintendo staying ahead with motion. They already have a huge lead.

With move, sony is gonna run into the problem of people getting too into it and throwing their Move controller into their $2000 3D HDTVs, and busting the move ball in the process.

Kinect is a flawed concept because they are marketing to the casuals when nobody is gonna drop 400+ bucks for that crap that, as of this E3, doesn't even work right.

Although sony is still in it, only a small part of their show was about Move, and they still showcased a lot of real games, along with Twisted Metal reveal. Also Move is marketed towards the real gamers, so it could still work eventually.

Microsoft however is completely fucked. There is no road to recovery for where they are headed.

Unless there's a good reason to use motion control, then leave me alone and let me sit back in my fucking chair.

It's only justified imo when it brings something new that you couldn't do otherwise with a regular control. Things like complex movements articulated just the way you do them. But why the fuck should I have to pretend like I'm throwing. I'd rather just you know, push a button.

It's funny how the Jetsons once pictured the future being a luxurious world where we go to work all day and press one button. And now it seems like maybe we've surpassed that and become so bored we actually want to get up and move around like a frig for the sake of entertainment.

While I'm still not 100% sold on the Move, Sorcery looked kinda fun, but, they better get more to offer aside from sports crap if they want $150+ out of me.

The only thing I like about Kinect was voice activated commands, other than that it's fucking clown shoes.

I think it's exciting that Sony and Microsoft are copying something Nintendo's already perfected.
Not true, even from the early demos we've seen the Move is far superior to the wii-mote and its stupid waggle. If I'm going to go to all the effort of using motion controls I want them to be somewhat realistic movements.

"Ahead" meaning be completely ignored by the system's best titles except to make up for the handicap of having few buttons on controller. (Light guns are available on every console as far as I can tell.)

If I actually wanted to move while playing games, I would just go outside and do stuff. I enjoy my controller based games, motion controls are just a huge gimmick to me. Even in games I play on the Wii, i hardly move the controller, and just sit down playing them anyways.

Sony and Microsoft charging almost as much as the entire Wii system for their motion controller setups is just hilariously awful. I refuse to buy either.

Wii is the only motion control to me. Kinect and Move are a wasteful gimmick that both companies are trying to cash in after seeing the wii's success with it.

This might blow your mind, but the ball on the Move controller is made of a rubbery material. You can squeeze it for all you'd like.

The Wii's motion control isn't a wasteful gimmick? What does it have, the others lack?

I'd be tempted to purchase the Move.
I'm not a huge fan of arm flailing for control but there's nowt on the Wii I'm iterested in. Sony's use of packing multiple game versions/control supports on the discs opens a lot of "later" options and the games should look pretty thanks to the hardware.

I've got no interest in the Kinect and it's arm flailing. I like having a controller I can hold and buttons what I can press, even if it is a glowing dildo.

That said the game would either have to be bloody amazing or the motion tracking and integration spot-on to pull me away from reclining in a chair with my feet up using a good old-fashioned Dualshock or 360 pad.

Did not know that. Guess it makes sense but the ball didn't look that rubbery to me watching it on video.

The Wii IS motion control. Thats all it has. That and crappy graphics compared to 360 and PS3. Now Sony and Microsoft are going down this motion path that has been bashed on repeatedly by both of them last year during the controller reveals. Yes people like the Wii for its motion control, but they also like it because its only $200.

I think Nintendo is trying to move away from showcasing the heavy motion gaming, as evidence of this years show. Zelda is probably the heaviest motion game they showed. Kirby, Epic Mickey, Metroid, Donkey Kong all are games that look like they will use the Wiimote as a pointer at most. And all of those including Zelda i can play while sitting on my ass drinking Mountain Dew all day, so i'm cool with it.

Move is priced pretty fairly, 50 bucks isn't terrible considering it looks like it works pretty well. The bundle is also pretty fair, so i can see Move selling if they can get some more games for it.

Kinect.... oh kinect. That hardware looks way more expensive than $100. If that $180~ rumor is true, than you'd be better off buying a Wii and getting a great collection of games.
