They were all black though.

bingo, and decking someone with a strong right hook to the jaw isn't a "like" level of force (I mean seriously, we can look at the recoil of both actions and easily determine a huuuuuuge disparity in force here). I appreciate that you actually did the research, though. As for what the police academies instruct officers on, I did some research and looked it up. No resisting arrest does not warrant a punch to the face, however police are trained to respond in "like" levels of force. Aggressive physical contact to a police officer, can lawfully provoke a response of similar aggression. The big difference is, the police officer should be trained to give them an advantage in the altercation. (i.e. takedowns, armbars, ect).
This basically leaves what I've been saying all along: the cop snapped and acted totally unprofessionally. And I'm pretty sure I haven't asked for his badge in this thread; I'm saying though that his actions are worthy of criticism because of their unprofessional quality and how they put the whole situation at greater risk. Giving the guy a couple days administrative leave and some minor discipline (not sure what is standard; maybe re-attending a class on proper restraining or w/e) is more than enough.
What's even more important, and what people aren't realizing at all, is that this is serious because it's on video. You really pick this up from reading police chiefs and associations commenting on the AZ immigration law, but having positive community relations is essential to police being able to do their job. A community is not going to be very responsive or helpful to police if they get the idea that this cop's actions are the default reaction to any resistance.
there should be respect for a police officer. And if those Women were this disrepectful to an officer i'd cuff them myself. however punching someone like this is not a good thing. I see some law-things coming up on the poilice officer.
And to be honest verbaly harassing an officer is never a good thing. Those people are all just people and you mess with them too much they just KFC your face.
to jail with both. Officer for half a year and the women for 1 week.
From the website I listed
Level Three
Empty Hand Control. Certain situations will arise where words alone will not reduce the aggression. This is the time police officers will need to get involved physically. This is a level of control employed by police officers minus the aid of equipment or weapons. There are two subcategories called, “soft empty hand techniques” and “hard empty hand techniques.” Soft Empty Hand Techniques: At this level minimal force would involve the use of bare hands to guide, hold, and restrain -- applying pressure points, and take down techniques that have a minimal chance of injury. Hard Empty Hand Techniques: [bold]At this level the use of force includes kicks, punches or other striking techniques such as the brachial stun or other strikes to key motor points that have a moderate chance of injury[/bold].
Did he seriously snap? If you snapped, would it just be the one punch? Why not follow that punch up with a series of more punches? Why not pepper spray her while she's stunned, or taser her, or beat her with a night stick? I mean if he snapped then he lost control and might as well go all out and hospitalize her. But he didn't. Instead she backed off, stunned from what happened and is seen in the video standing around doing nothing 30 seconds after the punch.
I'd say he snapped; he got pushed a bit and immediately reared back and decked her in the face. It seems like the first sub-category would be most appropriate; also I'm not sure if the jaw would be considered a "key motor point"
"Like" level of force requirement is negated when the offending person is behaving in a manner indicative of assisting a suspect escape. The girl put her hands on the officer as he was attempting to arrest someone and then tried to pull his arm off of the suspect. Any officer in this nation would take this as the act of someone attempting to escape. An escaping suspect is subject to use of force. This really is not terribly complex.
Okay, really? Cops have a shitty enough job in Seattle, they're not in the fucking suburbs, they have a chance of getting shot/shanked/etc. over trying to take someone in. I don't care how "unprofessional" you look, if YOU were in the situation, surrounded by potential hostiles, you're going to be under pressure, you're going to panic, and you're not going to be entirely rational. I'm sure this cop doesn't go around beating women as a regular pastime, but in his mind, who knows what she might pull out next? Striking her was the best option, regardless of your perception of morals and how not hitting women is right. It stuns her, it takes her out of the picture, and he obviously doesn't want her getting in the way while he is trying to non-violently take down the first girl... he obviously didn't want to hurt the women with the way he was taking her down. However, #2 pushed him a bit... again, who knows what that other one was gonna pull out? A knife? A gun? I'd rather punch a woman then potentially die, jeez.
Would just like to point out, pepper spray might not have been a suitable choice for this situation. Officer is by himself, there are tons of on-lookers and short burst of OC spray could blow back into the officers face or into the face of on-lookers or even people trying to help the situation. If he just used a short burst OC spray, he woud've easily hit 3 people depending on if there was any type of wind (Main female, female who got hit, male trying to pull female away)
Nigga Moment + Nigga Synthesis = Complete Disaster?
I didn't know Seattle was in Afghanistan!surrounded by potential hostiles
Anyway, already covered this exact point: if you're surrounded like that, it certainly seems a hell of a lot smarter not to start throwing punches in the middle of it and create some distance, drawing a weapon if needed.
look guys, snooki is squaring up to this guy!

excellent policework, Officer Guido. Very professional and surely the best way to handle the situation.
I'll concede that if the girl in this case was wearing an Ed Hardy hat, I probably wouldn't be complaining.
Does anyone know what she was running her mouth about? I bet she had been doing so for like 20 minutes or more.
or maybe hes trolling O_________o
Why So Serious?
