Oh fuck Plow has chimed in.
Time to shut it down beck unless you have the stamina to go against inanimate objects.
lol plow posting civilian gun guidelines as if they're 100% relevant to policework. Plow, read some of Nephlite's earlier posts.
In fact, read the whole fucking thread, because as I said, I'm not gonna repeat everything to satisfy your trolling.
wait, whos trollin?
BJ doesn't listen to anyone anyway, so regardless of whether beck had any points, BJ would just lay down some rape
pretty sure jmc also said the officer was in the right as well.
look at it this way: the 19yo was very much resisting arrest. the 17yo attempted to help the 19yo get away from the arresting officer(obstruction of justice + assaulting an officer). from the officer's point of view, and from the camera angle, i'd say the 17yo was definitely about to throw a punch. but what would i know, i've only been teaching jiujitsu at a MMA gym for 3 years now.
assuming the officer had not thrown a punch, there's a high probability that the 19yo would have gotten free of his grip. what's the most likely thing that this irate woman would do once free? well, she was already violently resisting arrest. by looking at her previous actions, there's a high chance that she could attack the officer.
the officer's main priority was to subdue the woman resisting arrest. when the other woman interfered, it put the officer at risk for injury. he did what was necessary to prevent injury to himself. i'm not arguing that a punch was the best idea. hell, i would have used the tazer myself. but the officer did what he thought was right at the time, and managed to not kill/hurt anybody.
tl:dr = it was a weak punch and it helped the officer get the situation under control(was also within the officer's department guidelines to rightfully do so). stop the crybaby bullshit already lol
everyone pretty much agrees the officer had a right to do something, but the debate is over what he did being smart/appropriate/whatever. Even you don't feel what he did was the best choice.pretty sure jmc also said the officer was in the right as well.

they would be much less likely to attempt attacking the officer if a weapon was drawn. also, I can't really think of a better way to piss off a crowd of onlookers than punching a woman in the jaw. as it must be restated, the officer is quite lucky that the crowd wasn't the horde of "scary black dudes" that everyone was imagining earlier in the topic.
from the video, the onlookers don't seem violent at all. they did get in the way a few times by crowding, but they didn't look to have any intention of getting in the way.
when the other girl tried to interfere with the arrest, it put the officer in immediate danger. that requires an immediate reaction. i'd say a punch in the face is much faster than reaching for your tazer while some crazy bitch tries to wail on you. it would also leave his face unprotected and open to punches, which is what the fatty's body language showed she was going to attempt.
blev, he had the opportunity to create some space following the push, which would've allowed him to draw a weapon. furthermore, as I explained earlier, if these "bitches" were as crazy as some would like to believe, the officer laying into the woman with the punch left him and his sidearm open to the other woman. He's lucky the other woman didn't do anything crazy/the male bystander restrained the other woman.
hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure if you were an officer you would have the situational awareness to always choose the perfect course of action, right? That's a bit unrealistic...
the punch was legit, right? Soo....QQ?
It's an immediate danger, you don't have time to draw a weapon. And punching someone to the ground is a more acceptable action then fucking drawing a weapon on them. If he had done that the media would have been in an uproar about that too. I'm assuming you're referring to drawing a stun gun, as pulling out his pistol is only acceptable if he was taking fire, or believed his life was in danger.
With a stun gun, they were in melee range to begin with, the woman was posting up like she was going to swing any second. You don't fiddle with your belt to grab your stun gun or pepper spray or whatever, then aim at her, then fire.
If you see a cop drop a woman who was ready to assault him, you arn't going to do shit. He didnt do anything to incite the people, shit half of them probably agreed with what the cop was doing to defuse the situation. Think of it this way, if YOU were with friends, one of your friends assaulted a cop and got taken down, are you going to be like "No way man! For my homie!" and charge that cop?the officer is quite lucky that the crowd wasn't the horde of "scary black dudes" that everyone was imagining earlier in the topic.
This thread is still going!
The fact that Plow hasn't posted again makes me very sad.
this is getting ridiculous.
Dense-y: if you'd have read the fucking thread, all I'm saying is the guy should take a couple days of admin leave and get some refresher training on how to restrain properly. I'm saying he made a poor call that luckily didn't end up worse that it did. That doesn't mean his actions can't be criticized.
Meresgi: already been covered. Nephlite posted that it's standard to create some space and draw a weapon. this isn't the sort of immediately dangerous situation like someone coming at you with a knife or a gun anyway.
even after the push, he would have let 1 arm down to reach for his stun gun. he didn't have clear visibility of both suspects, which put him at risk of losing control of the stun gun if he were to get it out.
i do think that if he were to have let go of the 19yo before the 17yo interfered, he would have created the space you're referring to. the officer would have already had reason to use the stun gun(resisting arrest) and wouldn't have had as much trouble detaining her. sure, he may not have chosen the best way to handle the situation. but in the course of actions he chose, i do think the punch was justified in his given predicament.
when I say "create space" it implies getting far enough back to where you could afford to lower an arm to draw a weapon without being at risk of losing control of the weapon.
What weapon? You still have not declared if you're talking about a lethal or non lethal weapon. She was posting up to hit him and he reacted on the spot against the threat. I'm sure you would have busted out some sweet moves to distance yourself from the target, maybe tuck and roll then come up with your pistol pointed at her....and created a HUGE fucking panic in the people around you.
Like has been said before, a punch, and it wasn't a fucking super punch to her skull that knocked her out, is far less dangerous then pepper spraying her in the eyes, or stun gunning her at 1-5yrd range, or fucking pulling a gun on the woman.
Next time you get pulled over at a traffic stop, why don't you get out of your car and push the cop and see if he nightsticks you or pulls a gun on you. Then come back here with your findings.
I don't care what someone said is STANDARD PROCEDURE. In a real life situation like that not everything follows the set out plan of operation you are taught.
well, he didn't do that now did he? part of his job is to make decisions on what he believes to be the best course of action. maybe he didn't feel the need to use his stun gun? hell, the punch seemed to get the job done, so maybe this officer was right?
but as i've said before, the stun gun may have been a better decision. however, he wasn't wrong in the way he handled the situation. sometimes there's more than 1 answer to a problem, and apparently right-cross is greater than or equal to a woman assaulting an officer lol
