I very much enjoyed FFXI, but in all honestly I didn't play it how I should have, I was invited to play by friends that had been playing a while so I was always behind, so I grinded day in day out with a lot of help along the way and I never really got into the story, I would skip cutscenes etc.

This time around I'm looking forward to starting from release and seeing the game progress over the years and I hope to find a good bunch of friends along the way to actually enjoy my journey with.

I always wondered what the experience seemed like for players that joined late.

From stumbling around the dunes running from gobs, to capping merits in SC MB Ule prtys on PLD using HP/Turtle builds, to that first chain over 500; figuring it all out with everyone was what I loved about the game.

Edit: At a certain point, it just seemed like it would be too overwhelming for newcomers.

I mirror a lot of what people in this thread have said.

As time went by, the game was just so different. NA launch to about a year thereafter was fantastic, low level zones always busy (in a good way), huge spread of levels among the majority of the population. Going to places like Valkurm / Qufim / Yuhtunga Jungle was probably the best memories I had of the game. Also I was far more casual and noobish back then and didn't care for much.

After I'd quit the game, I kept wanting to come back, but thinking 'the game has moved on by now'.

As long as the game has a similar "Final Fantasy" feeling to it I'll be happy.

Completing missions and the stories in FFXI was my favorite aspect in that game and I hope they only improve on it.

The only reason I quit XI was due to time restraints. Real life would always win over game life. If I only had two hours to play and it takes a good hour to get everyone in a party and to a good location, it kind of puts a damper on the whole experience. If you consider end game, its almost impossible to progress if you didnt put all your free time in to it or have a set schedule of free time and try to find a group that has the same.

I have read things that XIV wont be like that to an extent. I hope it allows a casual gamer like me to be able to make good progress and have a good time with out always relying on other peoples help for everything.

I was kind of in the same boat, but the help was always hard to come by. With that any time there was a CS or anything storyline related it always was rushed through and you missed out on half the game.

The whole deal with simultaneous release and over crowding with zones, we still know to little about the game mechanics to make any assumptions about that. Sure it will be busy, but for all we know you might be able to master a craft with out really progressing far with a combat job. But Im sure Im not as we informed as some people, so who know I could be wrong. I just dont want to fall in to the same traps as I did with XI. I think starting at the release will help a lot of people stay with the game longer.

I'm excited for FFXIV. I officially quit FFXI mid-2006 and started early 2004. I got tired of camping HNM's and I didn't have time to do what I wanted to in game. So played WoW for awhile and came back to FFXI and have been switching back and forth between FFXI and WoW.

FFXI has always held a special place in my heart (guess thats why I have been back so many times but done for good now since FFXIV is close) because it was my first MMORPG and it's where I met my husband. It was also great being part of the best NA HNMLS on Siren at the time. I loved the wyrm fights.

It will be nice to start FFXIV on the same level as everyone else and just to explore the world they have built. The character creation is just awesome.

Same here I have 2 friends that I will check to see if they get XIV or not, if not I'm starting out fresh and leaving all of the drama XI end game caused behind and just going to socialy enjoy XIV.

I just pray the process of pimping out a single job doesn't take 2-3 years and 2-3 end game shells, or buying tons of gil and botting.

For sure getting FFXIV and giving it at least a try. I used to be on Siren a long, long time ago (1st cerb mantle HQ yaaay, in the middle of the Aery no less lolz). Anyway, I was actually planning on trying to get some people I used to play with back in so we could dominate a whole server for another few years, just like old times.

I totally agree with this. The terror for the gob in Yohator Jungle was lots of fun ( and I was very disappointed when they made zoned mobs to disappear ;_; )

Played FFXI from 03 to 08 with few minor breaks in there. Been trolling these forums for years. Can't wait to play FFXIV.

Played FF11 for a while back on the Siren/Remora servers from 2004-2008. See a lot of familiar names popping up recently on FF11/14 forums. Definitely looking forward to FF14 8)

Played XI from 04 to 09ish with a few breaks in-between. Schoolwork load got too heavy and I was getting bored, so I had to quit.

Been watching XIV very closely since it was announced. Looks to be cash.

played XI since ps2 release til sometime in 08 i believe, about end of toau.
was a lot of fun, i liked the challenge a lot of the fights had (pre-nerf CoP fights were really fun imo, as well as divine might) but just ended up getting burnt out of the game with logging in everyday just to camp hnms.
at some point i just gave my account away(feel stupid about it now, probably could've gotten a large sum of $$ for it) and then it got banned. had the urge to come back recently just to play casually, but I guess the ban was for the best, ff11 took too much time!
