FFXI was the first MMORPG I ever tried and I ended up playing it for several years, and the game still holds the pole position for me as the best gaming experience ever, also it has had the best community ever, by rather far, when it comes to online gaming.

All the endgame stuff, LS vs other LSes HNM camping and all that shit with all it's drama is mostly just good memories for me. The feeling when you got a claim on a ground king to your LS without any ToS violating shit, the feeling when you camped Argus for over 20h straight and got the damn PCA and nearly shat your pants, all the never ending key farmings with awesome people and much more, it's all good memories and I'm really looking forward to FFXIV to eventually leave me with such a good feelings towards a damn game.

So yeah, I'm coming back for FFXIV, but I definitely hope that there's some similarities to FFXI when it comes to the endgame content, because it was challenging and in the end, very rewarding - and I like that. It was only a positive thing for me that not anyone could get their hands to the rarer and better pieces of gear and weapons, but you needed to work hard in order to obtain that stuff.

After FFXI I tried WoW aswell and I found the endgame content severely dull and easy and never grew to like that game and it's mostly immature community, so I hope SE doesn't try too hard to make this a "game for any player at any age", if you know what I mean. Anyways, I have my hopes up.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug... and I can relate about PCA and when I finally got the drop the surge of excitement followed by relief that I felt knowing I didn't have to come back to that hell-hole of a time-sink was pretty epic. However when it was PCC only thing I can remember is not so epic frustration about how hardcore 24/7 bots were during that time. It was pretty ridiculous on my server their were 16 RMT 24/7 on Argus and Leech King (12 on Argus 4 on Leech King respectively). Too further add to the bad nostalgia seeing one person constantly in the selling history when you watched some other RMT kill it after a bot claim was enough to make you rage. However I guess that's the way it worked out for me, remember the good and repress the bad with all your might.
(Funny how this was also the same story for me with Mee Deggi the Punisher only 50 times worse)

Going to give 14 the best shot I can.

Had to quit FFXI because of school. So I played WoW, quit because I had work and school. Then I got more free time, logged into WoW, took about 5 minutes in game to decide it just wasn't very fun playing endgame over and over there, the only real excitement of the game was the constant updates (at least for me).

When I started FFXI as my first MMO it was amazing, and I probably played too much. When I started WoW it was like chewing Nicorette to get off smoking that delicious FFXI cigarette.

Now I have a job that I love and am still in school (finally realized I love school). I hope that FFXIV will be 'casual' friendly... but not in the terms that I will be playing with unruly 13-year olds, but in that I can play without having to designate at least a 4-5 hour time period to lfp or get an alliance or show up every single time a dynamis is run.

I read strategies, I know my role, I know the fight and I have watched the videos (if any are up)... I am a good MMO player... I just don't have the time to be your guild/LS main tank or lead healer, or officer... etc.

I am not a 'casual' gamer... It's just that I only have the time to play casually. I hope this game caters to that.

Really? Are people really bitching about the beta not being fun? When will the masses get it through their head that you don't play beta to get a 'head start' on knowledge and to have fun. Shit is bugged and things need to be fixed, which is what you are there for. Its like a job.

Not as much as you'd think, at least on the beta forums.

There's more than enough threads and posts about "beta not being up to My standards", "lacking feature X/feature Y not being polished enough is inexcusable", you get the point.

Well when you do a random draw with no real requirements or filtering system it not surprising these things happen. Also not everything that's called a beta is actually a beta, which has been stated a bajillion times before. However there are beta's that are actually fun that have bugs in them and some people will be cynically and say their just demos with bugs. So whatever your use to will dictate your response to w/e being called a Beta.

    P.S.
The reason I say there's no filtering for Beta applicants for this game is because registering a porn site as your fan site and getting in is pretty lol. Then again computers aren't really good at acknowledging context but you can at least add a word filter lol.

If it's down to money don't cast judgment till tomorrow when beta phase 3 hits. However if you really want to see what this game will be like wait till the PS3 release. The reason I say wait is because after 6 months normally a game gets its shit together. Expect the release to be an extension of beta for the first few months and then make a decision if you can wait.

Played FFXI since EU release in late 2004, briefly on Fairy (gave up when I moved house / new job) and started again in March 2006 on Fenrir after playing Guild Wars for a bit. I finished up playing in August 2009 after achieving most of the things I wanted to - only thing I didn't get to was finishing COR to 75... gave up at 72 (!).

I gave my account to a friend so believe I am still doing at least something (even if its only holding feathers for Einherjar) on Fenrir. As with a lot of people here, in the end the reason I stopped playing (a decision I made fairly suddenly) was that I no longer really had the time to play to the level I wanted to - there were a lot of "compulsory" events such as Limbus (I led a linkshell), Dynamis, Einherjar, Salvage, etc etc and when WOTG was released I started to feel a little bit overwhelmed with the number of things I had to try and do. I didn't have time to craft / farm for gil, level up new jobs, level subjobs, keep xp buffers topped up, go to events, etc etc so I began to miss out on more and more things.

Partly this was due to my way of playing - perhaps not to the "elite" level where I -needed- a relic and had to have all +1 gear, but I wanted to have good gear for the jobs I had levelled to 75 and it became a bit overwhelming after 5 75s to try and keep all that up to date, especially with new expansions, events, missions, jobs, merits, etc. I think I'm glad I left before the new level cap was raised as I'm not sure I could have coped with that!

I always knew I would miss FFXI when I finished up playing it as I haven't found a game / type of game in my "break" period that is as good by some margin. However, when I saw news of FFXIV and some RL friends mentioned getting into it, I decided I would definitely give it a try.

Although the fact that SE have "WoW'd" the game a little (by this I mean, "made it a bit more accessible to casual gamers") has been criticised by some, I think there has been a realisation that not everyone has the sort of time FFXI demanded available (and they are a business at the end of the day - surely they want to maximise unit sales?). Personally I applaud this and think it will be a positive thing, but we will see on release (as I haven't been invited to take part in the beta). If FFXIV was being released and seemed as though this had not been amended, I would not have pre-ordered it as I still don't have that sort of time available (unfortunately).

I played it exclusively until WoW came out, after that I've played it in short bursts here and there, usually play 2 months or so and quit. The game has too many problems for me to stick with it in the long rung, alot of things are brilliant but too much annoying shit overall.

Started in FFXI maybe a week or two after the NA PC release. Finally brought myself to quit January 2010. Good times were had, many friends made. Fiance and I currently beta testing XIV. Pre-ordered our collectors editions and will be kickin it in XIV with a group of old friends from XI. Can't wait.
