actually this might be a good place to ask:

I made it about halfway through Symphonia, then got really bored with it and never finished. I still remember the story so I could probably pick it up again easily, but is it worth it?

I still haven't fully played a tales game, but I also have Tales of Vesperia sitting here unopened, should I play that one instead? Or is it more worth my time to find a used copy of one of the ps2 ones and play that?

If you found the game to be boring, I can't see any reason you should continue playing it.
Games aren't meant to be boring.

Also, don't know enough about your tastes to say whether or not you should try any others but considering the fact that many say Symphonia has the best story, I'd say you're probably better off leaving the series alone.

Out of the few I've played, Tales of Symphonia was definitely my favorite in the series. So, I would say ToS is worth finishing. Haven't played Vesperia yet since I have no 360 and they don't seem to ever want to localize it on the PS3.

edit: But yeah, if you got bored with it halfway through, might not be for you.

I didn't like the battle system as much as I could have because the art style (and story) put me off, which affected my view on the other parts of the game as well.

Don't overanalyze it.

I don't think anyone hates the gameplay, story seems to be another... story.

It wasn't so much that it was boring, just that I got distracted with other games in my backlog and kinda lost my taste for it. I guess my question was more whether it's worth finishing the last half of symphonia or just starting vesperia from scratch, but if you're saying Symphonia's story is the best I'm guessing you'll suggest I stick with that?

Tales of the Abyss was great (PS2), but that's the only Tales game I've played. The battle system was great, but I didn't like the fact that you had to go through Game+ to finish everything.
