He's being held back because the Holy Spirit and the Church is restricting him from fulfilling his part of the Prophecy. The whole point is, he knows that he will lose in the battle of Armageddon, BUT he is going to try to take down as many of God's children as he can during the 7 years of tribulation. He can't start his mission until the Rapture of the Church and the Holy Spirit has been removed from the Earth. Anyone who tries to accuse someone of being the Antichrist are ignorant people. The person who is the Antichrist may very well be alive today, but I can guarantee you that he may not even know that he is it yet. There is an indwelling(transformation) process that takes place half way during The Great Tribulation right before the Abomination of Desolation of the Jewish Temple where the Antichrist will proclaim himself as God.
