Okay, so take this one with a grain of salt. It’s been reported by CheapAssGamer that “a trusted source” has said that Walmart will drop the 3DS’s price to $170 three days earlier (August 9) than Nintendo intended (August 12).

While three days certainly doesn’t seem like much, if this turns out to be true, it could be pretty significant because of the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador’s Club, which was instituted to appease gamers who bought the 3DS at the full $250 price. 3DS owners who connect to the Nintendo e-Shop before the clock strikes midnight on the eve of August 11 will have access to the 20 free classic Nintendo and GBA games that the company is giving to early adopters for supporting the system.

If Walmart straight up breaks the price drop date, that could potentially give those downloads away to the cheapskates (such as myself) who didn’t get the thing at full price, basically taking advantage of Nintendo’s apologetic gesture.

We've sold through all used 3DSs across the board. We dropped used ones to $200 already and they were snatched up within the first 2 days of the drop. Everyone is interested in the price drop and I expect to sell through the same day. We will see. I'm cautiously optimistic this drop will help move product.

You could always just go into best buy now..... pay full price for the 3ds currently, then in a week when the price drops you can go back to bestbuy for a $80 refund.

Just a friendly reminder that Walmart did go through with the price drop at stores (at least in Wisconsin) if anyone is interested in grabbing one for the Ambassador stuff. 169.99+tax

My brother decided to pull the plug, and got a 3ds this morning.

Their ad is misleading though.....unless it was a system mistake, but trading in a ds lite only netted him $40 off the 3ds.

He got the 3ds for $100 in the end, after the manager had to come override it.
