My biggest gripe (at least for the console versions) is that they don't allow simultaneous local multiplayer. So, living in the same town with your significant other is only possible if you take turns playing. Otherwise, it's a matter of developing your own town and then visiting each other.
The only thread of hesitation I have regarding New Leaf is that I am highly suspicious that they are developing another version for WiiU that's almost a port (like Wild World > City Folk) that they might either announce in the near future or wait until about a year into New Leaf's life before mentioning. I would much much much rather have a console version... especially with the potential inventory/map/catalog convenience of the Gamepad.
If you need to be sold on animal crossing then it's prolly not the game for you. It's kinda a love it or hate it game with very little middle ground.
Yes.
Might get AC finally, been watching streams latly and it seems more interesting then i though it would be
Gonna look at bit more
I could honestly use and try to play a game that will let me relax, not like OMG i need to finish this in 3h or bust and blah blah
I don't really think AC and the Sims are fair to compare against each other. Not that either game is bad or that one is better than the other they're just two different experiences. If you go into one expecting the other you're most like to be let down.
Animal Crossing and the Sims aren't alike at all. Animal Crossing isn't a sim experience, at least not in the way the Sims is. You have direct control of your character, you fish, look for bugs, dig for fossils, maintain a garden, decorate and pay off your house. Decorating your house is probably as close to the Sims as it gets. Animal Crossing is more about getting your house to look like nice while upgrading it along the way and doing all the seasonal stuff that happens along the year. It's much more leisurely than the Sims.
I burnt myself out on Animal Crossing when it came out on Gamecube.Played that game into the ground.
Same, it will never be
(see what I did there?)
Being a fan of the earlier Harvest Moons (the ones with large farms, town, etc), I was never that big on Animal Crossing. I like my farming element, not collect-a-thoning a bunch of shit for a museum/my house decor.
Not sure why anyone hasn't attempted to blend the best of both games into a new IP though. NPC interaction in AC is better than the HMs I've played, and AC has the multiplayer support to boot. Give me some co-op farming/fishing while hitting on NPCs and teaching them bad words to use as taglines.
Alternately, Animal Crossing appeals to me because of how little upkeep the game needs as opposed to other sims and farming-centric games. Its main appeal is the slow collecting and catalog-filling. Yeah, you need to log in once a day for few weeks to keep your town clear of weeds and to water flowers for a specific item, but that's really about it. It's specifically built for casual players who can't necessarily play it all the time. In fact, you will eventually run out of things to do any given day if you play it a lot. You will get to a point where all your fishing/bughunting fills your house and inventory and all you can really do is keep bugging your neighbors and hope they send you on errands so you can at least get random items or a few bells (money).
Miiverse coming to 3ds this year
The Miiverse is expanding (just like the universe) and is scheduled to launch on the 3DS this year, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced in a financial presentation. Miiverse launched in Bowser browser form yesterday.
"We are also planning to make available a system update for Nintendo 3DS to allow its users to view and post content on Miiverse on the system within this year," Iwata said. Nintendo hopes Miiverse on the 3DS will prompt users to "understand the charm of the other platform, Wii U."
Miiverse was initially announced for the Wii U in June 2012 and launched with that console in November. The newest version of Miiverse is accesible via desktops and smartphone browsers, in beta form, currently allowing users to interact with their friends' feeds. It doesn't yet support creating new posts or new accounts, but Nintendo will "enrich the service incrementally."
Iwata wants the browser Miiverse to also influence user perception of the Wii U: "It will play an important role in having those who do not have Wii U understand the appeal of the platform through Miiverse."
