Lakehurst Naval Base (NJ) on Lockdown, Possible shooting.

So far the news is only releasing the bare minimum, saying "The Base is on lockdown" and not saying who what or why. Lakehurst base is a part of the McGuire joint base now, and only this part is on lock. They aren't letting anyone in or out, have roads blocked off for a ways out. Currently this is the most the news is saying:

    http://www.app.com/article/20100621/...ed-on-lockdown

The Lakehurst section of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is on lockdown this morning, base officials said.

The lockdown went into effect at about 9:15 a.m., Senior Airman David Carbajal said. The lockdown means no one is allowed to leave or enter the military base.

Local police have cars and barricades blocking off Route 571 west of of Route 70.

The lockdown was briefly applied to the Dix and McGuire sections of the 40,000-acre base, but is now in effect only at Lakehurst, Carbajal said shortly before 11 a.m.

The New Jersey State Police has sent resources to assist with the incident, said State Police Detective Brian Polite.

No further information was immediately available.

The base is the Northeast center for training National Guard and Reserve troops, at a rate of 8,000 to 10,000 every year.

This is a breaking news story, please check back for updates as we work to develop this story.
So nothing important so far, but having a friend or 2 on the base as firemen, an several police friends - it looks like 10-15 state troopers came flying into the base and that up to 10 shots were fired. Supposedly a "Terrorist" in a box truck. Good job naval security, guess we'll see more as the story updates and see how the news spins the story.

Looks like they have dogs and helicopters scouring the area. Guy is saying that several people jumpped out of a truck and it took off, another guy saying they are looking for one person... Shots fired seems to be pretty consistent across all accounts though. Doesn't look like anyone was shot.

Sucks for my friends working on the base, they've been locked in their office lol.

This is what, the third time this year that a base has been placed on lockdown due to a shooting?

That's what your friend gets for doing office work in a warzone.

Yeah, it's minor news to me, since nothing will come of it or the news will spin it a certain way or whatever - but because this has happened so much lately and I actually have friends there I decided to post it.

A few news sites are saying no shots were fired, but at the same time they say there was a man with a .38 that fled from a fedex truck that they are looking for, and it's hard to know someone has a .38 unless you see it or it's used. Plus, if shots weren't fired, what is everyone on the base hearing lol.

Helicopters, k-9's, swat, NJSP, but no shooting... Guess we'll see when the MP's allow people on/off the base and let everyone use their cellphones again. Apparently, there were several "incidents" on the base today lol.

edit: "office" being the place they sit/hangout/watch tv/sleep when there isn't anything on fire.

Don't wanna sound like a dick, but this shit happens far more often than the public is led to believe. Unless several people die you aren't hearing about it. Shit my bro has had his base locked down like twice and he has been enlisted for all of like 9 months.
