That means nothing. The base magian weapons come unaugmented as well; we won't know for certain until we can get inside. Alternately, they are final form after undertaking a trial with damage base magian weapons and do not progress after being transformed.

Exactly, base weapons. These are most likely just the base weapons that open up new trials and not the result of augmentation as every single weapon in the trails so far has the "Aug" symbol even if they change form or name.
Just like Relic/Mythic weapons start completely new trials.

Yeah I'm almost done the Plantoids for Kurodachi... now I'm starting to wonder if I should even bother, and just get Masamune since it's better than Hagun in it's base form and can be augmented.

Yes, they most likely won't just hand them out for ya.

That seems like a more likely scenario to me. More interesting than any quest reward we've ever really gotten besides Rajas ring for a quest line. Maybe you get 1 augment for each expansion or something.

Though I still think any possible new relic upgrades will top these weapons in the long run. I can't see them creating quests to keep relics on top just to break them down with new weapons. But it is SE, could be totally off.

Well, SE has made a distinction between these Abyssea expansions (which are called "battlegrounds") and the previous downloadable expansions (the add-on scenarios). I would figure that these would have no real story or plot but would really just be battlegrounds to fight in for gear and loot, and as such have no "reward" at the end to claim.
