    Problem with MPC and mkv

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and/or knows of way to fix it. Most mkv files that I have work perfectly fine, but for some reason some of them just end up distorted in a like.. boxy/pixelated way. Yet they work perfectly in wmp.

You could try out the newest beta of MPC or newest beta of CCCP (includes mpc), or if you used a torrent to download, have your torrent prog check your file for corrupted pieces. Getting weird blocky messes like that is sometimes a sign of an incomplete file or one with some bad pieces, even if very minor, but if wmp is playing the entire thing flawless, not sure what it could be...

Yeah, if wmp didn't play everything flawlessly I'd redownload the files again but because of that I don't really want to bother. It plays on mpc on my laptop with no problems.. but I don't think I have the same version of mpc on both. So it's definitely a problem with my computer or mpc and not with the files.

Are you using the correct DirectShow Video option?

And the correct one would be...? Furthermore, where would said option be in the first place?

What OS are you using? And it's under View --> Options --> Playback --> Output.

If you're on Windows 7 64bit (or 32bit?), you should probably be on "EVR Custom Pres."

If you're on XP or Vista, you should probably be on "VMR7 (renderless)" or "VMR9 (renderless)."

Ah, okay- It's on EVR Custom Pres. and I'm using W7x64, so it appears that's correct. Wish I could find out why this happens to certain encodes.

It appears I managed to fix my problem. By switching the DirectShow Video from EVR Custom Pres. to Haali Renderer. Didn't know what these options were previously, so I didn't want to screw around with them- but using wmp was becoming annoying. :3

If more problems arised from switching away from EVR Custom (weird font rendering). Download CCCP latest beta is very beast vs the last stable cccp release.

One problem that popped up was when trying to play a 1920x1080 anime series, it would only play at 960x540(half). Switching it back to EVR Custom fixed that problem.. but it's such a weird problem. The CCCP installed I have is 2009-09-09 if that makes any difference.

Probably need to coordinate your codecs if you use mpc because Matroska format is a bitch. Update your codec pack and player first then make sure your player and your monitor/video card are not fighting over settings.(using conflicting settings)

I cannot be more technical, as I see everything in pictures so my instructions come out the same way.

Basically there are a bazillion codecs and one tweak can throw everything off such as the pixellation you see there. Read the help info on each codec and make sure the ones that you do not need, are shut off.

Pixelation problem was solved by changing the renderer in mpc. It was most definitely not a codec conflict problem because the only codecs I've installed are CCCP, in which everything was set to default. The mpc player I'm using is the one that came with the codec pack (I think.. 1.3.1264.0). Video card is set to use application settings; everything default. Everything is the same on both monitors.

I encountered a new problem when trying to play a bunch of 1920x1080 videos in that the output resolution was half. Switching back to EVR Custom from Halli made the output resolution go back to normal. There are some minor pixelations, but only about once per episode or less so far.

Also, Matroska is <3. Waaay better than avi, ogm, mp4, etc imo. :3

Go with beta, CCCP9/9/9 is outdated pretty bad.

    http://www.cccp-project.net/beta/

    Download the latest one.

Oh yeah, uninstall completely first. Can't install beta over old installs.

    Well bummer .

Try this though, reset your settings via CCCP setting tool.
for FFDSHOW Video decoders: Use [x] MT (over H.264)

Random groups are messing around with new enconding, MT is the most stable for me.

Good Luck, just hide the icons via task bar manager .

My pixelation problems have been fixed for a while now; when using Halli Renderer I experience none of those problems. The thing I'm irked about now is that when trying to play 1920x1080 videos with haali it automatically downscales the video output to 960x540 for some reason. 1280x720 plays just fine though.
