I think the whole issue of these NMs needing an ally is related to the "weak point" stuff SE mentioned about Abyssea.
SE also stated that you could exploit it several times or not, so I'm guessing lowmen will still be possible if you keep triggering the NM's weakness.
Only thing is, Trial items should still be dropping or the whole thing would be pointless. It could that a weakness spam would deny you the standard R/Ex drops but still give you the trial stuff you need.
It's still easier than making a mythic, I guess. But it definitely feels like SE was just screwing with people when they said Abyssea was aimed at a single party, and the NMs for Empyrean weapons are that hard.
Here's hoping the weaknesses are both (a) exploitable without being retarded, and (b) matter enough so that a party can manage it.
They could have meant it was aimed at a party of 99s (eventually). Either way, lame.
Was looking at the stuff from Wiki when I saw this...

I'd bet money that this is what you're going to need for the final form of the Empyrean Weapons. That's not so bad really, as Cruor is racked up fairly easily and compared to Ancient Currency or Alexandrites it's a god damned blessing.
Seems like the new Balraahn's Eye Patch + Currency combined to me anyway.
WTF else could it be for?! (other than some sick joke to trick people into farming 2 million cruor)
$10 says it's needed for the final genkai level cap quest.
They're not going to require that you purchase an add-on to uncap yourself
I'm willing to bet it lets you stay in abyssa permentaly, why else would it cost that much.
It'll be only the first in a long string of progressively more expensive items needed to upgrade the Empyrean weapons, obviously. Also obviously, you use it to pop an NM that's about as strong as AV and only has a chance of dropping the real upgrade item.
Which you need 10 of.
If the next 2 abyssea expansions also use the same crour system, I honestly don't see this item being that annoying to get if its one of the upper end items.
If you try to stick to exping in just abyssea 75-99 I could definitely see a pretty big chunk taken out of the cost in that process alone, leaving you to fully merit yourself or whatever on new merits or other jobs.
But if this is like, the lv 85 upgrade for emp weapons and theres still like 5-6 more after that are even harder and more time consuming... >_>
Considering how fucking awesome Abyssea EXP is too, that's not really an issue.
I still think this will be the new Ancient Currency, but SE was very smart this time to make it points based. No fucking obscene amounts of gil here, just grinding away at a (surprisingly) fun event.
I just hope 99 will make things easier, as Carabosse is fucking psycho.
As stated before, it's a temporary item. The only way it could be used for "unlocking" Empyrean weapons is by trading/drinking it in your current Abyssea visit only. I have my doubts that they would make such an expensive + pivotal quest item so easily lost by being temporary/usable (which doesn't correspond with eyepatch/wyrmseeker/captain/etc). I have my own theories about Primeval Brew, but if it's going to be something that spending 2m cruor on that unlocks these weapons, it will probably be under Key Items.
I could also see it being something along the lines of a perma abyssea upgrade, like after drinking it you get some kind of permanent upgrade while within abyssea like the abyssites, but more potent.
As long as its worth 2M crour, isnt a one shot deal (use this and you get epic stats for 1 abyssea run, but then your out), and cannot be accidentally lost somehow (use it to fight NM or something but if you die gotta start from scratch)
I absolutely hate spending a large amount of time to get something only to have a chance at its reward.
1, Doubt you'll lose it on zone since it doesn't hold a Temp tag
2, even if you leave abyssea (and even if it is a temp item Which it isnt) and come back your temp items still exist.
3, square has released items early before people knew what the items purpose is (Eye patch and wyrmseeker) were in the game before mythics were.
4. no way you're gonna blow 2 million cruor on an item that gets used once for some cool effect and that's it, even square isnt that mean.
You're in serious denial if you think this isn't for an empyerian weapon trail for later.
I didn't want to believe you need 100,000 ampoules 150,000 tokens 50,000 alexandrites(toned down to 30,000) 100 assaults done 3 Toau king Odin win and 100 floor nyzul isle win when mythics first came out, but here we are.
Square still has 2 abyssea add ons to release, and they could always add an "ancient Currency style cost to it as well. . . . it is square after all.
1) Primeval Brew does hold a temp tag as far as I know, it just doesn't show up in the screenshot just like all the other temporary items that you can purchase from the Cruor Prospector. (look yourself)
2) I have never got any of my temp items back when I re-entered Abyssea (Tahrongi repeatedly).
3) No shit? Too bad that's not even a valid argument.
4) Like I said, I have my own theories about why it's 2,000,000 Cruor (which honestly isn't that bad considering the exp/loot potential of the zone in the first place)
1) pretty sure you can go check for yourself at the npc, pretty sure you can preview the item from the npc without purchasing it, it doesn't hold a temp tag.
2) me and a few other people have entered back into abyssea (with time still active an temp items are still there.
3)I wasn't trying to validate an argument I was stating that history is repeating itself yet again.
4) lets hear your theories then so we can revisit this shit once the use has finally be found.
