Definitely not. Last night we had two allies in Abyssea - Tahrongi, one doing NMs and one just XPing on Mandies. XP ally was at 400+ XP per kill when I left the NM ally to get three new stones to enter to XP with them. An additional 3-5 people came who were not there at the beginning. The important thing seemed to be for new people not to kill the mob. As long as someone who had been there the whole time killed it, we continued to get chests at the same rate. I left 5 hours later and we continued to get an absurd amount of time chests.
correct, it seems pretty obvious that it's all based on killshot, who kills with what, and how many lights that individual person has.
one thing i'd like to to test however is to see if dying has a negative effect on your light count, aside from the lights you miss while dead.
I can vouch. Since I only had 30 minutes last night, I waited for 45 minutes to enter while the rest of the alliance slaughtered. They got 2 time chests to spawn around the normal time (40-50 minute mark) so I entered. Turns out you have to be in the alliance and in the zone when the chests appear to get the benefits of them. They opened both boxes after I got visitation and I got no time for them. When I arrived at camp, 2 times chests dropped in the next 45 minutes. I ended up timing out. There was a lack of chests in general when I entered, not just time. We were alternating between melee and magic kills as well. As soon as I got kicked out, the chests starting pouring in again. Go figure.
If you were getting the killshot that would be the problem =x
The box that spawns is based off the person who killshots its light, so if you have a bunch of new people with weak lights killshotting the mobs you'll likely end up getting fewer boxes with lesser rewards!
That or you got really unlucky =D
OK, well, maybe all mobs are capable of giving all lights. Either way, my other point stands and people need to read up the official information as well as first-hand contradicting evidence before waltzing up and going "we didn't get ___ maybe it's because ___!"
ok we are currently in abyssea exping, caped azure, caped parlescent. But we are getting NO ruby light, not from WS kills not from anything. Tried WS kills only, tried SC kills, we are not getting any ruby lights. Btw target is bats in tahrongi. Something seems bugged.
I have not seen ANY official statement from SE on HOW lights are produced. As far as contradicting evidence, I haven't seen anyone posting a screenshot of a ruby light coming off of the Mandragoras yet.
Claims are useless if you can't support them with evidence, and going on anecdotes alone, there's more reports of them NOT producing ruby than reports of them producing ruby -- and guess which one is easier to prove?
Good news is every mob seems to be dropping a chest thats xp/cruor or time, bad news is were not going to pass 350xp kill >.>
I dont get it though, somethings really fucked, because Azure lights are still loading as are Pearlescent lights. Though I'd like to also point out Elemental WS's count as Azure, not Amber.

Also found some spaghetti code shit, see if you can spot it, I made it pretty easy for you guys...

Whats worse? It wont show in the mage's log.
I'm with miko on this one, I've personally ganked a bunch of kills on these bats via WS, and I'm not getting Ruby light. Azure and Pearl are loading fine.
Killshots produce lights, which light depends on which kind of killshot it was:
Azure (Blue Chests) - Magic killshot - Improve the quality and frequency of blue chests - Quality up = More Xp, More Cruor, and Time Extensions when maxed
Ruby (Red Chests) - Physical WS killshot - Improve the quality and frequency of red chests - Quality up = Higher order lights (Golden, Silver, Ebon, no more Amber/Perlescent/Ruby/Azure at high power)
Amber Light (Gold Chests) - Magical WS Killshot? (maybe chest only?) - Improve the quality and frequency of gold chests - Quality up = "Better" gold chests (More/powered up Augments, BIIIIG chests with key items, etc)
Perlescent Light (Chest rate?) - Melee hit killshot (BLU physical magic, Avatar BPs etc included) - Improve the frequency of chests? - And maybe permits the "bright light" blue boxes?
Silver Light (Cruor) - Red Chests only - Increases the cruor/kill cap and allows blue chests to grant cruor
Gold Light (XP) - Red Chests only - Increases the xp/kill cap and allows blue chests to grant experience points
Ebon Light (Everything) - Red Chests only - Increases all these lights a little bit.
I'm really unsure about what perlescent does and how the relative Azure/Amber/Ruby lights increase their chest frequency. It seems likely that Perlescent affects the general frequency of chests and amount of blue/red/amber light affects the relative proportion of chests you get. There seems to be some decay factor in your light, if not your xp/kill.
Furthermore, I had an odd situation earlier today when we literally could not get red chests to pop (blue and gold chests only, 0 red). Furthermore, our chests were only "Light" and "Time" chests (no xp or cruor). Eventually, we stopped having the BLMs killshot everything and had the melee killshot. We never got a light other than Perlescent or Blue, but eventually a red chest popped and managed to get a Ruby light out of it, which begot more red chests, which eventually got us gold/silver/ebon chests. Once we got gold/silver/ebon light, Cruor/Experience chests started popping.
Our Ruby light seemed to go through cycles. We'd lose the ability to get red chests for a while (it would decay), then we'd get it back (let melee killshot until blue weakened so we could get the random lucky Ruby-light chest).
Another thing that has definitely been mentioned before is that chest potency/selection seems to be determined by the light accumulated by the person who kill-shotted.
Edit: And yeah, it appears that you can over-use killshots and wear it out on a specific monster type. I'm not sure what's necessary to make it so you can get that type of light from a monster before, but I know people have reported (and I believe) that they are not-getting Ruby lights off killshots from monsters that I know gave them on WS killshots. I could not get Amber Light off Aeolian Edge killshots, which either means that (like people have said) Amber light isn't obtained that way, or that Aeolian Edge doesn't count as magic.
Finished a near 6 hours session on Bats. Not a single Ruby light but from chests. Bahamut it was.
I'm still leaning on zone specific limiting certain lights from mobs because I keep hearing people say Ruby from WS in Tahrongi but then no Ruby from WS in Tahrongi.
I've personally never seen Ruby in Tahrongi except from red boxes.
We never got our light message strengths to change. That being said, we had no problems getting ruby light on ws killshots, and we got chests galore after awhile of building the lights, although we were still getting feeble or faints all the time (azure never passed feeble, but blue chests were raining).
Edit: This was in konschtat. Haven't had an xp party in tahrongi yet.
Double Edit: Suppose I should mention we were xp'ing on the bugards.
Why is it that the last 20 pages or so are just people all saying already know things or asking questions that have been answered many times?
People need to read a couple pages back..
Drops depend on the person who got the killing blow of the mob. If a new member walks in and starts getting last hit on every mob you'll have crap chests.
If you have had a BLM that has been there for hours and 17 new people as long as that BLM keeps getting the killing blow you'll still get the top tier chests.
WS kills give Ruby I have personally witnessed it 100's of time as well as kicked people who refused to stop killing with weapon skills.
ok Mr. Fucking Know-it all, explain this shit then, please:
Spoiler: show
Those WS KILLSHOTS were all done by people who had been in the area since we entered, we have not seen ONE Ruby light off a killshot.
yes my damage sucks, my war isnt merited whatsoever, and its meh geared, and I'm riding Seigan.
