That's because no one wants another 9 hour "server maintenance" so they can fix it.

QFT. As I stated earlier, our messages on the bugards never once changed, but our frequency/quality of chests certainly went up.

Just did a bugard run. We were told that bugards weren't giving pearlescent light, so we killed lizards, saplings, efts, and funguar on the way there to get 15+ pearlescent. Turns out efts dont give pearl.

We got to bugards and found they give us every light. Melee hits = pearl. WS = ruby. Magic ws = amber. Magic = azure.

We built up azure until we got a time extension, then we build up 30 amber lights. After the 30 amber, we stopped worrying about kill shot and just tried to kill as fast as possible.

Our run lasted just over 6 hours. We wouldnt leave until we got our 100th mega gold chest lol. We got up to 101 mega chests, went to baka, then went to Gangly Gean to try for that key item(dropped for member2 in the list below). Our totals for key items:

    Member1+2: 5/5 Eve 3/3 Kukulkan
    Member3: 4/5 Eve 2/3 Kukulkan
    Member4: 2/5 Eve 2/3 Kukulkan
    Member5: 2/5 Eve 1/3 Kukulkan
    Member6+7: 1/5 Eve

Every one of those people got a venomous peiste claw (kukulkan's drop)

    Edit: best augmented items were:
Dark ring -5% physical dmg taken, -4% spell interuption
Dark ring: -5% physical, -4% magical
    Dark ring: -6% magical

Didn't run into a single one of those fabled 1.5k XP chests tonight, even with the Blue Chest Abyssite. There goes my sliver of hope left to be able to get empyrean items without having to kill the key item popped NMs.

Also, pics on those rings please!

I dont think many (whats it from? quest or nm), if any 1-2. Did your group do any focusing on farming amber lights?

If I recall we did 15 pers lights(melee kills) to help box drop rate, followed by azure (magic kills) until time box, then amber (magic ws) until we saw a giant gold box. at this point we free killshotted. at some points of our night we had 5-6 giant gold boxes up.

There was some earlier discussion about treasure casket spawn rates, debug shows:

Dialog Table Entry 04480 Fortune rate work.
Spawn rate added value: ≺Numeric Parameter 0≻
Blue casket spawn rate: ≺Numeric Parameter 1≻
Red casket spawn rate: ≺Numeric Parameter 2≻
Gold casket spawn rate: ≺Numeric Parameter 3≻≺Prompt≻
    Other casket info:
Dialog Table Entry 04459 FB Debug: Casket type probability ≺Numeric Parameter 0≻ / ≺Numeric Parameter 1≻ Casket type fixed = ≺Numeric Parameter 2≻.≺Prompt≻
Which heavily implies that each type has it's own probability of dropping, but as well all know, we can only get 1 chest per monster. What is unknown is the check order (e.g. blue > red > gold?) or if each probability can be capped at 33%.

As an aside, SE do enjoy tossing in amusing debug messages, like the following:
    Spoiler: show

Dialog Table Entry 04476 All clear to receive the effect of "Flee"?
    ≺Selection Dialog≻ Oh Goddess, no!
    Bring it on!≺Prompt≻

Dialog Table Entry 04477 Your fortune for today is ≺Multiple Choice (Parameter 0)≻[terrible/meh/decent/moderately good/very good].
As such, I shall imbue you with ≺Numeric Parameter 1≻ minute(s) of "Flee."≺Prompt≻

It seems the guy who gives Enhancements like HP Boost can give even more...
    Spoiler: show

    Dialog Table Entry 04198 Trade for ≺Multiple Choice (Parameter 0)≻[/Reraise/Protect/Shell/Regen/Refresh/HP boost/MP boost/STR-DEX boost/VIT-AGI boost/INT-MND-CHR boost]?
    ≺Selection Dialog≻Yes.
    No.≺Prompt≻

As a final note, we all know about the weaknesses that certain NMs may have in Abyssea. I for one did not know much else, but the NPC does make it pretty clear:
Dialog Table Entry 04228 The vulnerabilities can broadly be divided into three categories: magic attacks, physical-based weapon skills, and magic-based weapon skills.≺Prompt≻
Dialog Table Entry 04229 For instance, there are monsters known to be weak against magic-based weapon skills.
Inflicting such damage upon them will impair their movement, and you may consequently be rewarded with atma.≺Prompt≻
Dialog Table Entry 04230 All living creatures, however, possess the capacity to adapt, and vulnerabilities have been observed to change.
Be wary if you wish not to discover to your sorrow that a once-foolproof strategy no longer applies.≺Prompt≻

This is not true, I went to konschtat Friday night and everything was packed so we decided to kill efts. Didn't try for amber lights but all other lights were working as should be. I don't think it has to do with mob families but probably like people have said, an over abundance of a certain type or maybe just glitched. I think this because azure pretty much always occurs from magic but occasionally you get no light at all when trying for ruby or pearl.

    Also efts suck.

I highly doubt it's x family doesn't give y lights.... After trying to move away from Lolibris and Imp Killing. I really don't think they'd limit certain lights to certain families...

I dunno if this has been reported.. but last night during a mandy xp pt. We had 2 GIANT gold chests pop. One contained Fanatics power and the other contained Fool's powder.

I've never seen the GIANT gold chests before.

Efts and saplings suck. We may have given up on the efts too quick. We did maybe 5 kills and changed mobs since we were trying to get 15 pearl as fast as possible. Should have said they "may" not give pearl since we killed so few.

Ill get screenshots of the rings if ppl ever wake up.

I would say light from mobs has a chance to proc and are not 100% always.
For example i was on lizards and i killed with melee like 10 times on mnk and no perlscent at all but we had a DRK that killed like 4 times at the same time as me and 4/4 perlscent. So i tho maybe blunt dont count on those or need to be specyfic job that kill with melee striike. 20 min later i killed again on mnk 2 times and 2 perlscent proced. So I think its % that you got it or not. how high is that % may be related with a lot of things tho like job, weapontype, idk, etc,

Does only the chest-opener receive NM key items, or can anyone else retrieve one from an open chest? (I have yet to see a key item inside a chest, personally)

Anyone in ally can grab a key item even if they weren't the one to open the chest. We had our normal chest poppers open the chests and then the ppl building pop sets would just click the chest and take the key.
