Would be awesome to find a mob that gives azure/pearlescent/amber and no ruby. Trigger farming would be easier and people wouldn't have to complain about breaking chain.

I didn't think WSs like Atonement and Spirits Within even counted as Magic damage at all.

They both deal magic damage. Non-elemental however.

I thought they did "spiritual" element damage, along with chi blast, and that there's monsters that resist it. :s

There's no in-game lore for the term "spiritual," but you are correct, Psion. It's why Chi Blast and Atonement do more damage to Cerberus mobs.

If you want more TEs, have ppl get Scarlet Abyssite of Kismet. One person in my LS had it during an LS run, we ended up getting so many TEs, we went over 350 stored mins inside.

It would be odd, and somewhat inconsistent if that one person having the Abyssite would affect everyone in the Alliance's blue Sturdy Pixis. I would imagine, like light auras, only that person getting the kill-shot would make a difference.

He said he was getting some of the kills (he's a MNK main and played it the entire time, no Formless Strikes). Not sure how it works myself, but all I know is we were getting back-to-back-to-back-to-back TE chests at times with azure lights.

I got the Abyssite myself this evening and can try later when I have more stones.

I've had mine for the last 3 runs and I've yet to see this miracle TE drop rate.

Ahh man, dunno what to tell you lol. Maybe not enough Azure lights? >.> We went on and on with azure light getting for 3 hrs or so, despite the ruby chests. Guess I could post a picture so it doesn't look like BS:

The MNK in the front is the one with the abyssite, and very sure no one else in the alliance had it, including me at the time. I took this pic for lols and didn't SS the back to back ness, but this should suffice and help someone maybe.

Now you know 350+ time in the zone ain't normal.

Total chests in dats dedicated = 48 (not including mimics)

    Pachypodiums

#2=blue, blue, gold, red, blue, blue, red, blue

    #10=blue, red

#11+ were not encountered. EDIT: When there were 160+ people in zone, we were getting #17s, not even half of what the max is.

tl;dr Chests are assigned on the fly. There is no need to worry about too many people in a zone ruining chest drop rate.
Hmm. I was in a group earlier today that contained a lot of pick ups and we had a huge chest drought, and it was suggested that it was due to the fact that there was nearly 200 people in zone. I guess the group was just unlucky/sucked. There was NO WAY we didnt cap azure light, had gotten tons and tons to make sure, and we picked up quite a few pearls, but chests simply were not dropping. Panic set in around the 70 min mark, and we started doing ws kills as well to try to pick up some strong red chests to help out. Couldn't get anything...as a whole we got about 8 total blue's on the entire run, and of those maybe 3 where high tier.

We did it exactly how my groups always have, azure/pearl, get a couple times, then get the rest. Never have run into a problem once all lights are capped with at least *maintaining* our time, and on the way to capping red/amber we usually pick up a bunch of time. Granted, today the set up was a little bit less than ideal, but the chest drop rate was just horrid.

gawd i wish i had your kind of excess time to mull around and do quests / kill NMs after exp is done..

thats 6hrs, for which you have to spend 4hrs in the zone without losing excess time...

I actually passed out a bit after this. Last thing I remember, an LS mate had 390something mins, then I was zzz. Woke up kicked out of PT with 260 mins still remaining, lol. I am known as an epic time waster on my server in various forms. >.>

Just got out of whats looking like it'll be an epic exp run in tahronghi on bats.

Sadly it's late and I am gonna need to go to bed, but I got 4 merits anyways~

So I think I've started to get closer to figuring out pearlescent lights. It almost seems like its based on not just killshot but % damage.

When just going and doing whatever to the mob we rarely ever got pearl, of 20 kills we saw maybe 2 pearl lights and the rest nothing.

I had the whole alliance focus entirely on melee, no wses no magic, and after a minute of poking at the mob and killing it, viola! Feeble pearlescent light!

We then upped it to wsing it quickly down to 60% and then poking it down to death. Every single shot for the next 30 kills gave us pearl light without fail, no matter who got the shot.

Maybe the reason we're having shitty luck with ruby light is people are saving wses til the mob is about to die? Maybe should tell them to ws as much as possible and have blus not cast any magic so the vast majority of damage is ws based.

We might start seeing ruby kills on mandies if we try that, I dunno. Worth a shot?

If anyone is reading this right now and doing a mandy run please ask your group to try that for 1-2 kills, no magic period, just wses like nuts for ALL the fight not just the end.

If mandies did give Ruby Light, I'm sure I would have seen it at least once during the 14hr run I had. Also, if it is based on percentage, you're going to have to argue that it only applies to certain lights since magic damage for azure light makes up a small percentage of damage (Even less than WS I would argue).

Just to answer some questions that were asked a little earlier about amber light, red lotus blade and the samurai elemental ws's (at least jinpu) do work for getting amber light.

I've been paying attention to this thread and will no doubt be eviscerated for this, but...

Is there a guide, even a quick-and-dirty one, to light management and effective XP? I've largely gone with JP alliances and they seem to both know what to do and are able to get people to do it so that I consistently leave with more than 90 minutes on the clock regardless of when they suddenly decide that it's time to collectively hump the love pillow. With the NA alliances, though, it can take upwards of 45 minutes of solid berating to get people to stop using weaponskills for killshots and the browbeating never takes. Note, I'm referring to shout PUGs in both cases. Either way, the result is that I'm assaulted with moonspeak in the first instance and have no clue what the JPs are doing in terms of getting X light at Y time and the NA groups are twitchy uselessness that regularly result in someone timing out.

No. Cap out Azure, then switch to Ruby. I know lots of people are obsessing over Pearlescent to increase chest rate, but it isn't necessary. You will get it without trying, so go for the lights that influence what you came to Abyssea to do (Azure: TE/EXP, Ruby: lights). When people start leaving to spend their merits or get replacements, you will need to build their lights back up. If people have 60 minutes left on the clock or less, start having the mages trying to get killshots to increase the blue chest rate.

I helped organize a run 2 nights ago (1/3 LS people, 1/3 friends of friends, 1/3 pickup) and had zero problems getting people to pay attention or follow instructions regarding killshots. I know it seems mean, but we filtered the pickups based on their gear. I wasn't overly picky for DDs, they just had to have gear that made sense (though we did have a couple ebodies/Ares out of sheer luck). Mages needed HQ staves bare minimum.

Your goal is to gain at least 15-20 pearlescent and azure lights without gaining ruby or amber lights. Pearlescent increase overall chest droprate, azure increase chance of it being blue as well as quality of blue chests. Ruby increases chance of red chest droprate and quality of red chests, amber increases gold chest droprate and quality. If you avoid amber and ruby, you'll have a higher percentage of blue chests and higher rate of time extensions. Once you're comfortable with your acquired time, start capping up ruby to max your exp(top tier red chests give gold, silver, and ebon lights). After you've capped ruby, cap amber for bonus loot. Obviously, the order is interchangable depending on your priorities, but I'd strongly recommend getting a time buffer before pumping ruby and amber. In a typical average-good party, once all 3 lights are capped, you should get a time chest about once every 15 minutes. Obviously you'll have good and bad streaks, so buffer is nice to avoid timeout later. If any person zones out or you get a replacement, their lights are reset, and any mob they killshot will act as if they've just zoned in, so try to have new people avoid killshots. You can build lights back up with older members at your convenience for the new ones, many say 15 of a light is cap but it seems to be 20-25 in my experience. I hope this was a readable guide, if you read the thread I would assume you already know, but triggers for lights are as follows:

Pearlescent: Melee kill, noticed more if finishing blow is a critical hit or mob hadn't been nuked, but neither seems to be foolproof. 30-50% droprate with just the criteria of killing with a melee strike in my experience.

    Ruby: Physical WS kill, 100%.

    Amber: Magical WS kill, 100%

    Azure: Magic kill, 100%.

Also worth noting, avatar blood pacts all seem to produce 100% pearlescent if used as killshot. Positive they produce pearlescent, not positive it's 100%, but saw a good 15 in a row without noticing any not.
