Just spawned T2 VNM in Tahrongi - Abyssea. It's just a bigger Hungerer. NM's name is Yearner. We could only find one spawn of it, in the middle of the Couerls. But we didn't get to check the Northern part of the zone.
Few things about this NM. He doesn't melee, at all. Just spams TP moves. TP moves we saw were:
- Promyvion Brume - Poison, 5/tick. Hit me for 178 damage, only used it once over 20 minutes.
- Material Fend Evasion Boost on him - Dispelable, not sure how potent the boost is. Used it ~5 times over 20 minutes.
- Brain Spike - 428 damage. Caused Paralyze effect. Used once.
- Murk - Gravity and Slow. Slow won't override Haste. Used ~10 times.
- Carousel - This is probably what makes him most annoying. AoE damage of 7' (Got hit at 6.9, but not 7.2) with some pretty heavy knockback (I think I flew at least 10' at one point). All he does is spam this. Nonstop. Takes about 3-5 seconds before he actually uses the move after it appears in log. Makes him extremely easy to kite. Damage was from 300-600 with Earth Staff.
We actually didn't get to kill this NM. He uh, didn't take much damage from any Elemental Nukes, or even Banishes/Holy. Elemental DoTs were sticking, Poison/Dia/Bio included. Gravity and Sleep/Repose did not stick. Tier 1 nukes were doing about 55-96. Tier 4s were doing 100s with some 300s. 300 damage Tier 4 took off ~1% of his HP. DoTs weren't doing anything bad, and I could've seen it wrong when his HP fell. But if you were to kite with DoTs, would need definitely full 1.5 hours, not even sure if that would be enough. But then again, we weren't constantly keeping DoTs on, since we were trying to find some method to damage him.
Couldn't exactly test melee damage since it was just a WHM and BLM, but Club and Stave would barely do more than 0 damage, with the highest being 20-something.
On another note, mid-fight 2 "!!" appeared over his head. Not sure what triggered it, at the time I was casting Aspir and partner was just running out of range from Carousel. No other Aspir caused these "!!" to appear though. He is aspirable, but wasn't getting anything too great. A lot of resists mainly, but one hit for 138 MP. Others were sub-30.
An extremely easy kite, since you can dodge carousel like a breeze, but not sure how you're supposed to damage him. Unless he's one of those "hit the enemies weakpoint for massive damage" mobs. If so, need to find his weakness. Probably something silly like Tachi: Butterflies. Luckily my Abyssite didn't break, so we'll more than likely try this again Tuesday when we get our static sorted.

Spoiler: show
EDIT: Seems the "!!" happened right after one of the Nukes (A Blizzard 3, so it even out-damaged the Tier 4s prior to this) did 400-odd damage. Not sure what that means, but I guess the nuke hit it's weakpoint. Colored orb on it seemed to swap real fast, so that could perhaps have something to do with elemental damage.
We had the !! appear a few times during our brief fight with Chukwa too. No idea what caused it, was a mess, people were running out of time, Adamantoise were on us. (They don't sleep to dark-based, btw)
And to add to the OP for Tahrongi ??? pops Cair:
Spoiler: show
Also, I love you for keeping info in the OP.
That Tier2 VNM sounds like u have to hit it with the proper element to deal dmg as it constantly rotates thru the elements. So someone has to keep an eye on the element its on.
All NMs in Abyssea have that "!!" weakness you need to exploit. Determing what it is is the big mystery.
On a tangent: maybe Anima might work on those VNMs if someone is willing to test.
Ok, so the VNM path is looking a little grim on 'popping' those Empyrean Weapon drop NMs (remains to be seen about them providing a way to fight them), but a thought occurs:
Fistule has been spotted at the area of Abyssea - Konschtat that would link to Valkurm... has anyone gone to the other zone borders to check for other NMs? That's the only other thing that seems to correlate to the "2 Mobs per Zone" theme going (2 mobs per zone, 2 outdoor zone borders per zone).
I used up all my time so I can't check myself just yet (and I only just noticed the Fistule info).
New Abyssea - La Theine Map filled in:
Spoiler: show
Dark Red spots are ???s which need key items.
Known Drops:
Piasa (Bird) drops Seigneur Shield, Navarch's Choker.
Baba Yaga (Pixie) drops Aristo Belt. Also has a chance of giving a key item "Shimmering Pixie Pion"
Mangy-Tailed Marvin (Rabbit) drops Adler ring, Orison Cape, Marvin's Pelage.
Adamastor (Gigas) drops Nifty Mantle.
Trudging Thomas (Ram) drops Fortis Mantle.
Chasmic Hornet (Bee) drops Terebellum Mantle.
Pantagruel (Gigas) drops Arctier's Torque.
Grandgousier (Gigas) drops Cognition Belt.
Dozing Dorian (Sheep) drops Ultion Mantle.
Can someone please confirm that conflux #4 is indeed at H-7 in La Theine?
As far as I can tell, my group of five has never gotten a chain from any abyssea mobs, and we kill fast enough that we'd logically get a chain.
It's possible that there's an abyssite that unlocks chain bonuses, but that remains to be seen.
I believe each Clionid (and Limule) has a certain element associated with it. As I've said before, we've fought an Ephmeral Limule that seemed to be based on light element, but we've also fought one that was fire.
And while this is just open speculation on my part, it may be that Limules are associated with light elements (light, fire, thunder, and wind) while Clionids may be associated with dark (dark, earth, water, and ice). They also use TP skills and spells that are associated with their element, and I've only spotted Limules that cast light, fire, and wind spells. As my party generally avoids Clonids since they're near the entrance (where we aren't most of the time), I haven't had much time to research them yet.
Hopefully today we'll be entering, with an hour and a half to our name. I still want to figure out where the spot is to get the key item for Gift of Light, as I'd like to get this quest done.
Ah, okay I'll make a note of that, thanks. You have to run down into the canyon to get to it.
Did anyone see Chasmic Stinger drop off Chasmic Hornet? I get the feeling most of these NMs will drop some item which needs to be collected for one magian trial or another.
This isn't about the old OAT trials really, these are new trials. Not to mention they require FIVE times as many items from a zone you can visit for 30 minutes each day.
Because from the .DAT list of the only other new EX-only items, Carabosse's Gem is in there. From what I gethered, Carabosse is a Tier-1 VNM. Yes, a T1 with drops. Unless that was false data, that would suggest that there are other T1s with ex drops used for other Empyrean Weapon trials.
Carabosse information:
- Requires Key Item Clear Demuline Abyssite Obtained from a Cruor Prospectorfor 300 Cruor.
- Hides like VNM's do in the Present so you need to /Heal on top of them to pop it.
- Unknown if it gives position like VNM Abyssite does.
- Because it pops in Abyssea - La Theine there is a 30 minute time limit on the fight.
- Gem drop rate unknown at this time. required for Great Katana Trial 1555: Carabosse's gems x50.
If that is true, chances are, H2H/polearm/axe trials would need an item of equal value from an equally easy-to-pop VNM. Therefore, Chloris is most likely a T1 VNM.
I didn't quite catch it other than Hungerer, are the T1 Abyssea VNMs around the same difficulty as the original T1s? Or are they only solo-able by mages and thair shenanigans?
We just killed the Eft ??? NM last night in konschat. Got a Bersail Cap and dragon meat.

it seemed like it might have scaled up to how many people we had. We went in the day before and got it to 20%~ with just 7, this time it seemed much much more difficult, but It could have been my imagination.
12 acc -6 subtle blow cape off damselfly NM :D
fly is not hard, we 3 manned it pretty much, all with 2nd account......aergoa hit 3 person for only 400ish
go get it guys!!!!!!
and of course the marvin rabbit dropped the item for OAT katana trial
2 dropped, no ring, no whm cape![]()
For the OP info, taken from Belkin's post.
Shocking Whisker is used to pop Tefenet, a Coeurl type NM. Dropped Smooth Whisker which seems to be used in combination with another drop to pop another ??? NM.
(Just incase it was missed. Realize it's a lot of info to dig through and commend you for your effort. You might want to disable smilies for the post. Some of the positions turn into smilies.)
By the way, from the dozen or so I've fought, every Limule has been fire-based, and every Clionid has been water-based. Has anyone experienced otherwise? It seemed whenever a Limule was Ephemeral, it was glowing red with fire, and when a Clionid was Ephemeral, it was bubbling with water.
