With the basic structure of the Abyssia system coming to light, I'm thinking that the best thing people can do to start off is get a lot of cruor, then get key items (extension, map, possibly cheaper teleport cost) for the three zones as well as activating the conflux teleporters in there.
So with this in mind I entered Abyssia for the frist time today with the goal of maximizing cruor. I decided to try Failure's idea of going in with 12 in an ally; essentially 2 merit parties, and fight close to each other. By his estimates, it might be possible to get 2-3k+ cruor every 30 minutes. I chose La'Theine Bird & Bee camp. Well... it didn't work out so well. Worked out to about 500 cruor every 30 minutes. Here's probably why,
-Very few chests popped (this is supposed to be key to getting cruor, no?) About only 1 chest for each PT in the first 20 minutes.
-Chests (red) did not give exp or cruor. They simply gave a message such as "Shamaya's body emits a feeble ruby light!" Awesome...
-Mobs gave only about 20cruor/kill
-Our parties were too far from one another to share exp/cruor from kills. We could try readjusting next time though. But it seems like multiple parties can camp a single species of mob at once. Is this advisable?
-The NM, Piasa, popped on one of the parties and raped it while it was in the middle of a couple mobs and was unprepared.
-Ephymeral (glowy) mobs give crummy exp to an ally of 12. Iirc, like ~50 cruor and ~125ish exp. Wasn't really worth the time. Killed one later as a trio and it was very much worth it, 500exp/350cruor.
-Perhaps most important, alliance-based farm is really hard to pull off with pickups 1 week into the update. Was too hard to get anyone with more than a single Traverser Stone, and it took about an hour to get a balanced 12. I could see it working much better with all friends or LS, using ventrilo, with everybody knowing what to do instead of just me >,<. But until most pickups know what to do and have at least 1.5 hours to burn, I can't see a double merit party style being easy to do through shouts alone.
Anyway, all I can say to contribute at this point is that if you're looking to farm cruor in Abyssia through pick-up-groups, I would advise that everyone have at least 3 traverser stones, and that you don't take in more than a party.
