Plus Amber - ???
So, seven kind of lights then. As for chests, we got:
blue and gold chest: temp items
blue and gold chest: restoration
blue and gold chest: time
blue and gold chest: exp
blue and gold chest: cruor
red chest: lights
gold and brown chest: items
That's 7 in total, same as there are lights... Perhaps it would be like:
Azure Magic kill: exp chest next kill?
Amber: cruor chest next kill?
Ruby melee kill: red light chests next kill?
Pearl ws kill: benediction chest next kill?
Ebon light from red chest kill: temp item chest next kill?
Gold light from red chest kill: exp bonus plus item chest next kill?
Silver light from red chest kill: time extension chest next kill?
Our own party was mostly getting melee and ws kills, but I was also opening red chests, most of which had golden and ebon lights inside. We had one item chest, but I'm unsure whether it dropped from a mob after getting an ebon light or not. Our chests were mainly blue and red chests, with red chests being slightly more common by the middle of the run. For blue chests, the most common type was benediction, closely followed by temp items, with cruor and exp being somewhat uncommon but not rare, and roughly equal compared to each other. As our alliance had mostly tp burn setup but also a few blms, That would lend credence to the idea that the light you get affects the drop of the chest, with perhaps the intensity of the light affecting the chance of that chest dropping, and perhaps the intensity of the light is affected partly or completly by how many monsters you've killed in a family?
Man, so much to test. I'm going to a cruor farming run in a few hours tonight, so I'll try parsing the results and seeing if I can spot any correlations. >.<v
::edit:: one way to test this might be to try a manaburn so that only azure lights pop up, and seeing if only one type of chest spawns. If only say, exp and cruor chests drop, then we have found ourselves a possible system!
Inside a Brown box we got a <temp item> TP Wing, so its not -always- keep-able junk =O
Forgot one more, Amber light. And I don't think that color determines which drops, at least not quite like that. Otherwise almost all of the chests in my party last night would have been mainly one single type of chest. Since it was mostly melees and hence mostly pearl type light. But the chests were all different varieties. I have the parse I could read to see what light was on before what drop, but the light message and fight text dont appear together.
Well, it is just a theory. Also, keep in mind that if weaponskills or melee killshot causes a red chest to drop, it would mean that red light chests would drop, which would increase the potential drops to almost all 7, since silver, gold, pearl, and possibly amber are only in the red chests.
There's probably a way to get the other lights besides from red chests as well. For ways to finish a monster off, we got:
melee kill: ruby
magic kill: azure
weaponskill kill: pearl
skillchain kill: another light or azure, who knows?
DoT death: ?
pet kill: ?
ranged kill: ?
Ranged probably has it's own light, as does DoT, though I'm not sure on skillchain or pet deaths. There's probably other possible ways to kill a quadav but I can't think of any. If there's a way to force a time chest, from say, DoT kill, then we must pursue any option for our lovely meripos!
no luck with timer as well
was reaping through konstact's bugards
like i said before, some groups get 6hours, some get 3, and most get 1.5(w/o extend)
1.5 vs 6 hour is too huge a gap to be considered random since each extend is only 10 min, there must be a catch somewhere +_+
well, my time got wiped when exiting earlier.
lol...
which further supports:
if you have previous time accrued, do not exit again without adding more time to your visitant status.
(i.e. trading another stone)
the irony of this is killing me.
I don't know if im reading this right but, i entered Abyssea-Kon with a 30 minute stone, did a quests or two, left with ~20 Minutes on it, went to Abyssea-Tah entered and left leaving me with ~9 minutes, then after some time went back to Abyssea-Kon to buy an item i forgot to pick up, all on the remains of that same 30 minute stone.
If what i think you're saying is true, it might just be a glitch and/or some contributing factor?
If you enter abyssea with time from before but dont grab visitant status, just leave while still in your 5 minute limbo, you're carry over time gets wiped.
Spoiler: show
I'm quite surprised that people are talking about lights instead of the massive amount of key items these guys got.Anyway, did the opener of the chest automatically get the key items, or were they able to have someone else get them? If so, then this may eliminate having to spam certain nms and roam around if we are to build boss/mega boss pop sets.
I'm sure this has been answered numerous times but search function is failing me, what color is the time extension chest?
can only be blue i'm pretty sure
edit: and maybe gold?
So from your XP session, you got:
A decent chunk of old money items (Khroma, Damascene, Ores)
Some new synth items (fulmenite, tenebrite, flocon, durium, phrygian) and scrolls
13 Gancanagh pop items
2/3 of an Olphanim pop
1 Hedetat pop
couple more partial pop sets
Key Item NM's:
A ??? requiring key items, overgrown mandragora flower and chipped sandworm tooth is at (F-5).
2 key item: Overgrown mandragora f
A ??? requiring key items, veinous hecteyes eyelid, torn bat wing, gory scorpion claw, and mossy adamantoise shell is at (I-8).

fuck farming Abyssea mobs, just bring xp alliances >.>
wait wht? What mandies in that tag zone drop stone v and water v?
Water and Stone are from chests, not the mobs themselves. And the chests that contain them are very rare
Ok, after this parse, we took a short break and went back for another 3 hours. However, the job distribution was a little bit different and the chest results were WAY different. Our intitial run yesterday was 3 hours and a pretty large mixture of chest types; we had 2 BLMs there, and we gave them shit for pulling hate and making mobs run, so they backed off as the session progressed.
The session Hezz posted here was very DD heavy, with only 1 sch occasionally nuking iirc. Getting Time Extensions was extremely difficult, to the point that 2 people timed out and another one was literally 10 seconds from when we were able to get a TE. We started getting more at that point, but the really crazy thing was that we were getting mega boxes like crazy (hence all the key items). At one point we had 4 megas up at one time.
In contrast the later session had 2 more BLMs than the earlier session and we got almost no gold boxes, and not a single mega box. However, we got Time Extensions like nobody's business, to the point that when we exited, I wasted about 20 mins running around doing quests and still exited with 119 minutes.
Essentially, it seems that the BLMs were landing enough kill shots that our light was mostly azure, occasionally pearlescent, and rarely ruby. This seemed to translate into an enormous tendency for blue boxes to drop.
So:
Session 1: 3 hours, light switched between ruby, pearlescent, & azure a lot; chest distribution was pretty even, favoring ruby & azure a little bit.
Session 2: 4 hours, light was almost always ruby or pearlescent; chest distribution was extremely slanted towards gold/items & red (additionally, towards the end of the session, opening red chests, which is regarded as pretty easy, was almost impossible)
Session 3: 3 hours, light was azure the vast majority of the time; chest distribution was far and away in favor of blue.
Theorycrafting would tend to point to needing magical kill shots to have the best chance at getting time extensions. For those having difficulty getting to the time extension boxes: bring more BLMs.
Also, I don't believe the chest opener does not automatically receive the key item; you still check it and take the "item" out.
NExt exp run I'll bring an entire party of schs/blms and try to get them to nuke shot every mob down.
Have the DDs take the mobs down to 50% and swap to next one while the black mages sit and time nuke them. I could probably do brd/cor/blm/blm/blm/blm so they have a lot more mp, etc etc
Then we'll see how our blue chest distribution is, however to point it out, we had 1 black mage in our group last run and he was focusing on sleeping adds. We never got azure glow ever, and never got a time extension the whole run.
I dunno we'll have to see
