Considering amber caps at a higher level than gold/silver/pearl/ebon, I would probably assume that magical weaponskill killshot = higher chance of gold chest popping, to match blue and red being higher chance with azure magic and ruby melee kills.

And seriously urat, if you got a blue mage in your alliance, your data is already flawed since blue magic counts as azure, and blu's in general love to get killshots in. Considering the amount of chat spam in alliance, I doubt you were paying that much attention. Try an alliance without any blue mages, black mages, pups using spiritreaver, scholars nuking, or red mages nuking, and get back to us.

So for lights we can force, we got magical ws, physical ws, melee, magic? Anyone tested ranged kill, DoT kill, pet kill, and damaging job ability such as shield bash/barrage/quick draw kills? I want to say they can all be forced in some way besides the chests, since you can force pearl, but needs testing. :s

How long were the 600 exp mandies taking to kill by the way, for the alliance?

My personal theory is that lights are built up. We all know each kill provides a light depending on how you kill the mob. This would be sort of like the tonberry hate system. Except your hate is automatically reset when you leave the area.

    Something like:

Feeble azure + feeble azure + feeble azure = weak azure

adding Feeble azure x100 to that = strong azure light

The message after each kill only represents how much your "aura" was increased by defeating that mob. Over time, you build up an aura. Capping out around the top level of aura you're seeing more and more chests drop off that type.

The type of aura would directly effect the type of chest you're most likely to receive. If you have a strong azure light built up, and only a feeble gold light, you're likely to receive more blue chests (and more frequently) than gold.

    Red chests:
This could explain why red chests have any importance at all. If you're fighting and only getting azure light, about the only way you're going to receive any gold aura is from the red chests. Considering we've killed a mob, gotten feeble pearlescent light, received and opened a red chest with a strong golden light, and then on a kill 3 seconds later, back to feeble pearlescent light.

In a way, killing with ruby light would increase red chests, which give you an opportunity to increase all of the other colored lights. Or the red chests could just be a way to increase your auras in a slightly quicker fashion. (Not that i would recommend this route if it was more than theory.)

All of this would explain why you start seeing a dramatic increase in chests towards the ends of your runs. You've finally hit that aura tier.

    ---

Other ideas: Some lights (ex: pearlescent) do not seem to have a chest associated with them. This light could do something along the lines of increasing the reward or frequency of chests or maybe an increase in cruor or experience.

Can anybody write up a small guide on the best quests to do to increase your Fame, from level to level and how to complete said quests? For each zone?

Example: Fame Level 1: Do this quest, how to complete it, until you get to Fame level 2-3.
Fame Level 3: Do this quest, how to complete it, until you get to Fame level 4-5.

    And so on.

DoT kill as usual grants nothing, just a "falls to the ground" message. Not sure about ranged, we had a ranger with us but I didn't notice anything. I plan to go on corsair next run and I could find out then.

I can say this for sure. During the run I attended nearly everyone was a melee or support. The only magic damage job was 1 SCH who focused more on pulling and curing than nuking. And we saw quite a few blue chests all the same. I wasn't meticulously paying attention, and we got no time-extensions, but they seemed all over the board to me.

Wyvern kill is the same as melee kill, iirc. I'll have to go back through the screenshots to see if I have an uncropped one that shows killing blow.

(I got lazy with saving copies of the original images)

Edit: That's wyvern melee kill. Not a breath kill. Not sure if there is a difference between the two.

I can only speak for Tahrongi fame which I've done. To get to fame 3 I did about 3 unique quests and then 15 repeats.

    Weapons Not Worries
    His Box, His Beloved
    Savory Salvation
    For Love of A Daughter
    A Sterling Specimen

At fame 1 there's only Weapons quest to do. Get a bunch of hardened bones and take them to the npc via conflux #3. Just zone in and out speaking to her then trading one each time. Your only option is to mine them yourself (or on a level 30+ mule), or buy them off AH/bazaar.

When you hit fame 2 you can spam Weapons and Savory Salvation at the same time. Go in, take conflux 3, finish Weapons, flag Savory Salvation, then go take conflux4, go east to get the nut key item, backtrack to conflux3 and finish it. Zone and repeat. Just keep giving them your nut and hardened bone until your fame increases (harhar?).

At fame 3 you can repeat Love of Daughter and Sterling Specimen also. All of these quests consume time. The quickest of them is Weapons Not Worries but only if you can get hardened bones from someone else or a mule.

somewhere in the range of 20 seconds, we lost a chunk of people through the run cause it was getting late for our EST'ers and the obviousness of our level 75 people that entered capping xp at 80 and getting full merits done.

P.S. balanced group gets this shit done. So far best setup has been 2 heavy DD, dnc, cor, brd, healer parties x2, with a blm party/leechers tossed in. Put real end gamers in there and have both brds pulling with blms CC'ing and shit gets dead.

Except for the fact the blu was pulling so he never got a kill shot. His job was to keep the mobs coming and keep them stunned.

Yes in fact I was very much paying attention to the whole fight because I was trying to see if lights always came from the killshots, which they did.

No pups, red mages and white mages were asked not to nuke so we didnt mess up the ruby/pearlescent lights, and the one black mage was on sleeper duty and opening chests with me.

So I'm pretty sure the data wasn't flawed, fyi >_>

    So basically we have:

    1. Several groups focusing on Azure light and reporting many TEs

    2. Several groups focusing on no light in particular and reporting many blue boxes but no TEs

So yes, this implies that Azure light either doesn't increase blue box drop rate or the two sets of groups have a different idea of the word "many".

However, this doesn't provide any evidence against the claim of Azure light = increased TEs. There just seems to be some degree of flawed logic of HOW it accomplishes this.

    My questions are:

    A. Has there been any group that has focused on Azure light for at least an hour with very poor results?

    and

    B. Has there been any group that can confidently claim to have had very good TE results without Azure light procing (hardly) at all?

If anyone can honestly answer yes to either of those questions, then you can start to argue against the Azure light theory. Otherwise, continue to test the theory until either someone can answer yes to one of those questions, or you reach your 100+ sample size.

I never get why some people want to keep people from posting anything at all until hey have a 100+ sample size, especially with something as new as Abyssea. Personally, I'd like to see all the crazy ideas in the world. If they're dead wrong, then people will test and show that they're dead wrong very quickly.

If you leave your EXP resets,

I was getting 467 a kill, Changed my jobs over from COR to RNG because I was capped buffer and merits. When I re-entered EXP started again from 90 but climbed back up what seemed faster then before, but did not catch up to people who had not left at all.

And all the Azure lights we received where from Magic damage kill shots.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if aura's had nothing to do with boxes. Last night we almost went a good 30 minutes of only seeing restore boxed drop. Almost damn Red boxes get hard later. With a pressure difference of 1-4 apart in numbers they seem almost impossible to get.

Hezzel will probably come on here and put up the stats, but we just finished a 4hr 20min run on mandy's. Ended up with about 210k xp.

Some observations, we only had 1 blm in the group but for the first 2-2.5hr we were relying on him getting kill shots as much as possible, this was popping alot of our blue chests and ultimately our time chests. You know your times will start popping when your blue chests require 6 guesses, that means you've reached your upper tier limit on your chest pops.

We basically then built up our time to about 180 min, then shifted our focus on melee kill shots (not via WS's). This was now popping a large number of red chests.

We started using our keys on reds because this is what was influencing raising the soft caps on XP and Crues. I believe our 2.5-4 hour mark is where 60-70 % of nights xp came from, probably more cause we ran up our xp right to the 600/kill hardcap.

I can't exactly confirm what was doing what, but i believe ebon red chests were influencing the xp limits, silvery was effecting crues' per kill, and golden was influencing, mega gold chests and regular gold chests. When ever we felt we wanted to increase our time, we would just get the blm to killshot a mob or two, and in a very short time we'd see our 10 min extention chests again.

This whole thing is very game breaking, i mean in that last 45 min it was literally 1.2k/min.

I would highly highly suggest everyone in the ally invest in at least 12 keys, maybe even 24, cause once you got your time to where you want it, you can start quickly popping those red chests to up your caps.

Has anyone gone for such an extended session on anything other than the mandies yet?

Coeurls and Froggies i know of.

Someone did PIxies once but those things suck ass.

ANY MOB family will work, you just need to pick one you can kill quickly and reliably.

More info to add, hopefully not already mentioned, I went through the last 2 pages and didn't see it, but apologies if rehashing.

To appease urat's butthurtness at sucking in Abyssea, I'll qualify this by saying the following is our current theories/experiences based on 4 extremely successful sessions on mandies:

Azure: increases the chances of blue boxes dropping
Ruby: increases the chances of red boxes dropping
Pearlescent: increases the chances of gold boxes dropping
Gold: increases base exp by ~10/mob
Silvery: increases base cruor by ~3/mob
Ebon: increases base exp & cruor by ~3 & 1 respectively

Today's session (our 4th of 3+ hours) was about 4.5 hours and around 220,000 exp gained (Hezzel may post parse). Setup included 1 blm, 2 blu, & 1 pup to account for magic damage. In the beginning we didn't focus on a particular damage type or killshot, but we were getting mostly azures. Later in we were trying to force gold boxes and members were asked to hold back on ws & magic killshots. There definitely seemed to be an effect, in comparison to our 3rd session, but we weren't swimming in gold boxes as we did in our 2nd run. I'd say we got around 5 or 6 mega boxes this time, including at least 2 key item pops (1 being chipped sw tooth). Gold boxes just seem rare all around so the %'s by avoiding azure & ruby may be the most beneficial, even though the results don't seem significant.

As the run dragged on, we reached the soft cap on exp around 330, but we eventually were able to increase it to the hard cap of 600. There may be a hard cap on cruor, but we haven't found it yet, as we got it up to 73.

A few new things we learned (others might be aware):

After about 3 hours we had to replace a ls member. The guy who came out started at the 80 exp level, but after about 20 minutes he was in the 200's. This is where the theory about gold/ebon/silver poped up, as our chest openers were doing a helluva job popping them successfully. By the end of the run I think he was getting 470 to our 600 after only about 1.5-2 hours. 2 other replacements came out later and ended around 350 & 250 ish.

Our 2nd session is still probably the most successful w/ all the key items we were able to get, but this one was probably our most efficient.

Claiming azure has nothing to do w/ blue boxes (and by association TE's) is just foolish. It's definitely not a requirement, but as others have posted, it's pretty obvious that it increases the occurences. AND you have to combine this with not sucking on opening them successfully. You can have a blue box drop on every mob, but if you're not opening enough of them successfully, you're not going to get to tier 6 where the TEs are.

    Edit: beaten by Jogi

So once again, your basically saying you breathed on a coin and flipped it and got heads 4 times in a row, therefor breathing on the coin gaurentees you'll always get heads.

Second: Wtf is this butthurt over sucking at abyssea? Sorry but my ls puts a bit more importance on actually farming NMs and pop items over building up crour to buy gear that isn't even that great vs spending the same time to actually get good gear. Sure a handful of the crour armor is ok, but we farm the 3~5K crour in a run going after NMs and abyssites. Sucking at exp runs? We've done a handful of the runs that were rather successful. But whatever call me butthurt for taking science and reason over voodoo.

This has been confirmed, and I can confirm this as well. To reiterate they add an exp/crour bonus to the next monster you kill, but then go back to normal after you regain your previous chain's exp.

Good info to have, good to know that bringing a rep into the group won't hinder anyone else.

Seriously what part of accuracy, samples, and probability do you voodoo retards not comprehend?

FIRST and foremost, opening chests successfully or just leaving them to depop showed NO influence at ALL on our chests in any of our exp/crour runs whatsoever.

It grew to the point where any chest we didnt like we just decided fuck it and left them, sticking only to exp/crour/TE boxes.

Chest progression, exp progression, monster progression, all stayed the same.

The dats don't even keep track of your party members, your party set up, successful chest openings. They keep track of 1 thing only and thats your chain.

Anyone with half a brain would make a pretty damn simple conclusion without any voodoo or coin breathing or direction facing or moon phase or kill shots or light or anything for the matter.

The faster you kill, the stronger the mobs get.

The stronger the mob, the better types of chests it drops and the more frequently.

Any inferences after that without solid mathematical sample sizes and probabilities are without reason and should be disregarded.

Now, if you wanted to make a proper scientifically sound statement with current data, here's what I am fine with:

"According to our small sample size so far, it is showing a trend that suggests the possibility that creating a balanced alliance between magic and melee, and that maybe having an Azure light as your current glow will potentially increase the chance at obtaining a blue chest. However, there is still much more testing and sampling to be performed before we can state whether or not this is remotely true. For now it is just speculation"

There you go, now that is an accurate statement.

Considering that almost every report of people staying in for 2+ hours has had people focusing on Azure lights, I think it's safe to assume that it does indeed help with the chance to get a TE chest, or more blue chests, which results in more TE chests.

Having done 2 runs in a row now where we have gotten 0-1 TEs and not been focusing on Azure lights, I'm fairly sure that the next run I do set up, which /will/ focus on Azure lights, will be more successful.

All that being said, Blue boxes are definitely the most common regardless of the lights being thrown around, nobody is disputing that. At least this has been the case in my experience.
theres always a chance of blue and red boxes, but ruby and azure seem to boost it further

i like this, but we are not sure yet. We are getting close tho. Now that i found out magical WS = amber light, we still missing 1 possible boost

i really cant think of what else amber light can boost.... since im sure 9.5 out of 10 groups dont perform magical WS to test

maybe stats? evasion, like signet? or maybe something like sc damage or exp chain duration?. SE added a ton of things to increase sc effectiveness, so it's not far off. Doesn't fit the pattern, but i don't see what else it could be.
