You didn't invalidate our theory at all, as it assumes there's a baseline appearance of any chest, with lights ENHANCING the chance of that color. In other words, all your doing is hitting the baseline chest drop rate, and from sheer numbers, getting time extensions.

But for those who don't have an optimal mix of DD and support, there's another option.

And are you sure you had no blus, pups, schs, rdms, blms, or other magical damage kills? It's possible quick draw counts as magical damage as well, so there's that to consider. Seriously, if you're going to debunk the current theory, we need more than WE WERE ALL DD AND WE GOT TIME EXTENSIONS, YOUR THEORY FAILS. We need what your alliance was made up of, and preferably a parse of the log to make sure you weren't getting azure lights from say, a blu casting disseverment for the kill.

And there's the fact that balanced setups are getting tons of time extensions from magical kills, which would seem to strengthen the theory that azure light enhances (NOTE: ENHANCES CHANCE OF, NOT REQUIRED ABSOLUTLY FOR BLUE CHESTS) the chances to get them. From this, one could assume that:

A)azure light increases chances of blue chest appearing next mob
B)ruby light increases chances of red chest dropping next mob
    C) there is a baseline chance for any chest to appear
    D) the more you chain the higher chance of any chest appearing
    E) the more chests you open, the better the results become, as if you were leveling up the chests, so to speak.

So there's three ways to do it assuming this:

A)tp burn zerg style: this will result in lots of red chests for lights, leveling up exp/cruor quickly. however, to get time extensions, requires truely fast paced kills to get enough blue chests that time extensions appear after enough successful opens.

B)manaburn style: this results in tons of blue chests, but few red ones, making time extensions easy to find because you have plenty of chances to level up the blue chests, but due to lack of red chest lights, cruor/exp will rise slower.

C)balanced DD + nuke style: this results in a good amount of chests period, with the setup focusing on magic kills first for time extensions, and once time has built up, red chests for lights if needed, swapping to magic if time is starting to run low again. This would result in the best exp quickest, because you can control which chests will appear (on average, not absolutely)

So you're not really disproving our theory here, just strengthening it.

as Clyne said earlier, here is what we earned on mandies:

    Experience Rates
    Total Experience : 241090
    Number of Fights : 577
    Date : 7/8/2010
    Start Time : 8:50:45 PM
    End Time : 1:10:54 AM
    Party Duration : 4:20:08
    Total Fight Time : 3:18:47
    Avg Time/Fight : 27.05 seconds
Avg Fight Length : 20.67 seconds
    XP/Fight : 417.83
    XP/Minute : 926.73
    XP/Hour : 55604.09

    Experience Chains
Chain Count Total XP Avg XP
    0 577 241090 417.83
the last 1h14mins i restarted the parser to see what our exp/hr was really at, and it was between 70-80k/hr in that time alone, and this was when we were getting 590+ exp/mob.

if you had a group of 2 DD pts, and a puller/healer giving 14/18~

would you fill up the rest of the slots with gimps 'n' tards who want to tag along on worse jobs? token SMN onry etc.

so is it worth filling to 18, or just stick to bringing good ppl? (burning to get max Te's/cruor etc)

fill to 18 and have your gimps opening chests

also, urat, you're retarded, and azure light absolutely, positively makes more blue chests pop

To be honest, I am more leaning towards your lights being an influence on stats, granting hidden bonuses, or maybe not even hidden, to stats/attacks.
You have even less reasonable reason to suggest it has an effect on these other hidden stats.

Vivication is the process in which killing monsters in abyssea makes you stronger.

Its pretty obvious this is the lights. Since azure light comes from magic kills, its pretty logical to start looking in the direction SE started us off in before trying make 99% foundless assumptions like it effecting treasure chest drop rates.
    Actually, try looking up Atma.

Point is, the game keeps track of these lights, and there was noticed a possible correlation to chests dropping, and people are still testing it. Has anyone said it's 100% fact? no. It is still a theory.

You have no more reasonable reason to jump in, stating that it is 100% false, and insulting the "believers" because you believe differently, when your theory has even less physical evidence to support it.

Definitely going to agree with the azure light theory. We did 3 runs on mandies without an blms, and chests were spread rather evenly through red, blue, and gold. Last night we did a run with 3 blms aiming for killshots, thus resulting in azure light pretty much the entire time.

We only got 4 time extension chests (without keys, and we only had 14 people with some being gimps we got in shout). Every chest but 1 that dropped with azure light was blue the entire run, with 2 reds during pearl. light where melees got killshots.

I just did, and I'll say it again.

Azure light makes more blue chests. Period. It's beyond fucking obvious if you're paying attention and go out and try it.

Did a run last night with 6 on Mandys. I haven't finished going through the logs to check glows and kill shots, but here's what I put together to post on my group's GP site:

    --
We killed a total of 86 mobs in 110 minutes. I received 14,645 XP and 2,456 cruor from the fights. I received an additional 500 XP and 1,000 cruor from chests. I received a total of 15,145 XP and 3,456 cruor.

We received a total of 11 chests.

Three contained minuscule amounts of cruor (200).
One contained a small amount of cruor (400).
Two contained a little experience (500), one of which was failed.
One contained a feeble soothing light (single person heal).
Two contained temporary items, one of which was failed.
One contained a faint pearlescent light.
One contained items (Dragon meat and Jacaranda log).
    --

    Setup was:
    76 WHM/BLM
    76 PLD/WAR
    78 RDM/WHM
    75 SAM/WAR
    78-79 DRG/BLU
    80 WAR/SAM

Not an ideal setup, and we know it. Next run we'll switch things up, and probably have more folks.

Did a run last night in La Theine, planning on Greirs, but since two alliances were already there, we went for the bees.

Don't kill the bees, btw, they suck. Very slow kill-speed due to Pollen spam anywhere from 1-3k HP cured each time. They might actually work well in a mana-burn setup with a tank and a puller, as they don't really have that much health, and aside from Final Sting they don't hit particularly fast nor hard. Burst IIs from our BLMs were doing 15-20% from what I could tell. They have sight aggro, but do not link.

The slow kill-speed made it really easy to observe chest drops though.

Our first kills were basically no EXP, I'm assuming no one had killed them since server maintenance. This is kinda important, since our 2nd chest was a TE, mobs were not even giving us 100 EXP yet. Also, our third kill was Chasmic Hornet, which dropped it's pop item, but we did not kill it a second time. It was trivially easy to kill.

We were attempting to get exclusively magic kill-shots. Most of the time, our light was Azure. For the entire duration of our run, only 3 chests were NOT blue, and all 3 non-blue chests were after a melee kill. One of the non-blues had Stone V and Dragon Meat in it.

Did a Shadow Lizard run last night. It seemed like we were the first to kill the lizards since the maintenance. We had 2 melee parties and 1 party of blm/chest poppers. We aimed for magic kills for the majority of the run (occasionally had a melee get killshot). We only got 1 chest that wasnt blue the entire time we were doing magic killshots. We did not get any TEs until around the 80th minute. We ended up getting 3 TEs total.

I think we were just getting unlucky with the TEs because we got atleast 5 that gave 1k cruor and 3-4 that gave 1250 exp. Our first 1k cruor came pretty early in the run (maybe 30min in). I don't think we saw any chests give less than 1k cruor or 1250 exp. If we did, it was only 1 or 2 out of the 9ish that gave c/exp. The rest gave us temp items or occasionally a full reset (hp/mp/ja/300tp) for the opener.

I'm gonna try to put another run together on the lizards now that they won't be maintenance fresh anymore and see if the results differ.

If people are still hunting down the Abyssite key item, JP wiki lists the Konschtat quest "Addled minds, undying dreams" rewards you with:
    だいじなもの:福運の青色ジェイド
Google fails to translate it, Babelfish says "Luck Luck", could be azure abyssite of prosperity?
azure abyssite of prosperity ???????????????? The bearer will experience greater fortune with red treasure caskets in Abyssea.

Another thing about mixed style groups over TP Burns is the sheer amount of EXP/Cruor chests you get can offset the EXP you'd simply get from kills. Were probably around 3 kills a minute, anyway. In runs where we eventually shifted to reds to up individual kill worth, such chests were showing up far less frequently. As is, once people get a baseline amount of cruor built up, messing around with chests is also a triviality as keys should basically be used on top tier EXP, Cruor, TEs, and worthwhile loot chests. The "gimps" can fuck around with Temp Items and red chests aren't exactly hard to open.

According to JP Wiki, one of the augmented items from a Gold Chest in La Theine was a Tarutaru Sash with Treasure Hunter +1.

    Stop the presses.

    Ahmahgahd.

That aside, is Treasure Hunter even a potential Augment? I don't think it was on the list of potential augments before this update at least, but I haven't see a new list (if there were any changes).

ROM/220/58.dat holds Augment info, and Treasure Hunter is indeed one potential augment.
