I'm surprised (not really) that people aren't giving props to SE. A way to include BLMs in melee PTs without returning us to the stone age. Good work SE.

My blm and sch are 80, in large part, due to abyssea farming alliances.

Dunno if anyone has mentioned this.. but if you wanna keep chain even if you happen to get aggro from an NM or the Ephemeral bs mobs, you can keep your family chain simply by CFHing the other mob. No exp/cruor gains but in the long run its a lot better that way.

I like what Abyssea is doing honestly..

The fact that mobs will start scaling up in difficulty and EXP means that there'll never be a lack of EXP mobs from 75-99 because the mobs levels will suit the player and not the other way round.

What makes this fun is that you can do this in an alliance setting, don't have to be too specific with jobs you take, and can just plain go all out on the mob.

What makes this even better is that the EXP rate gets better the stronger your group is. It feels rather rewarding and there actually are rewards in the form of Cruor, items and augmented equipment well.

There's also no downtime due to mob repops because the repop so damn fast, or crowd issues because there are so many camps to choose from.

Before even touching on the NMs, I think Abyssea thru its EXP parties is about the most fun thing to happen to FFXI. If you're lucky, spend enough time there or are pretty diligent about it, I'm pretty sure you can even pop higher tier Abyssean NMs just from getting the trigs from chests.

It really breathes fresh air into the game and allows for far more fun/casual play.

Anyway, to those that have found my charts useful I just updated them with new info and at least the main flow chart. Some of the upper tier mobs are intelligent guesses since no one has popped them.

Just to add with the time thing.

I had 2 minutes extra when I came inside ALaThieneP yesterday. It did not give me the option to receive visitant status with those two minutes but I did get a message as I went to buy a stone that I had 2 mins still left. After I bought the two stones and it confirmed my time, it told me I then had 68 minutes total (60+ 6 from abyssite +2 extra minutes prior).

In summary, it should add your extra time at the final step of your stone purchases.

All that's on display here is different standards and definitions for what constitutes "proof", dude. You are aware, I'm sure, that there's no actual way to prove something, in the mathematical sense, simply via the collection of statistical data? In the statistical sense, "proof" is just a shorthand way of saying "a degree of statistical certainty that I am comfortable with."

And I don't know where you're getting your numbers, but a sample size of 20 can be very relevant depending on the data. If you do one thing and get 18:2 in one direction, then do another and get 3:17 in the other direction, the likelihood that your actions had no effect on the probability of your result (that the discrepancy is solely the result of random variation, in other words) is already infinitesimal.

An observation as simple as "azure light = blue chest, red light = red chest" makes the connection easier for a person to accept without the reinforcement of mounds of hard data. That's perfectly reasonable, too.

It's one thing to say "I'll be more comfortable with this hypothesis once it's backed by some harder numerical data," another to say "I'll consider this to be completely false until there's hard data to back it up with a standard deviation of < x", and another thing entirely to say "This is totally false without numbers, but you morons are too stupid to see that." One is reasonable, one is unreasonable, the third is just being an asshole.

There must be something special ifd you're under 5 minutes or something, because I did that with 9 minutes early on and lost it.

if you want to add to your saved time, you have to talk to the conflux surveyor and receive the stored visitant buff, then talk to the surveyor again and choose "lengthen Visitant" or something to that effect

You can add to the stored time by using stones to get visitant status too. The messages are just frighteningly misleading.

For people not on quezameowtl: Urat's runs are usually pretty bad, so apply ockham's razor and don't consider his posts when trying to figure out what gets the uber 6 hour runs.

For people shakey on statistics and sample size: you're being flamebaited.

I don't mean to draw the ire of Urat, but I just want to add another tally to the list of alliances the azure light method has worked for.

Just got home from work and was cravin some exp. I only had 4 friends online who were able to come with, so I took them, dual boxed a 2nd character, and found 12 pickups to join. Mind you this was JP midnight but hell is there a lot of fresh meat out there looking for groups like this. One shout in EN and I got 3 immediate tells, another in JP and I got about 10 tells within 30 seconds.

For the alliance setup, I made 2 DD parties and one mage. Both DD parties had Brd+Cor. We had one Blu. And in the mage party we only had 2 Blms and 1 Sch.

Before entering the maw I explained the azure light thing, and assigned an /assist. I told all the DD's to switch off to the /assist's next target at about 20% HP, and that the mages would nuke it off. This didn't actually work so well (nobody did it) and wasn't really necessary. Mages just practiced timing and were able to get the killshot often enough. Got some early 800-1k chests w/in first 45 minutes. Time chests didn't start popping until about the 45minute mark. We had 1 person handling boxes at all time, and it seems he didn't need any help from anyone at all. If there was a box he was having trouble with and it was important (ie TE), he'd tell me and I'd just open it with a Forbidden Key. I had to go back eventually and get 2 stacks of keys, all of which I used in the long, 8-hour PT. EXP/hr was only about 30k/hr due to it being a pickup, but I got my Cor from 74-80 and capped buffer; Rdm 78-80 capped buffer and filled 10x merits twice. EXP capped at 360ish for awhile and then later on went up to 380ish after we completely stopped magic kills. We started magic kills again to get TE's for reps, and growth past the 'soft cap' of 360 seemed to stop after that.

General tips:
-Have an /assist
-In "slower" parties, only 1 box opener is necessary if they're good. Have some people with forbidden keys as backups.
-Have everyone buff up at the beginning with temp enhancements. They're only 50-120 cruor, which is nothing when some people are getting 50k/run.
-Good way to take advantage of blue boxes (if you're doing lots of azure): use temporary items often. They get replenished so quick and make a huge diff. As the blm party Rdm, I was able to get plenty of magical killshots with 700dmg blizzard III's, and this was on demand what with ethers droppin like candy.
-If you've got a Smn opening boxes, they can often one-shot mobs with odin due to the common restore chest drops

8 hour PT. We went in with azure light TE'ing as our idea and it seemed to work. After we were TE'ed up we stopped magic kills and stopped getting TE's. When we got reps that needed TE's, we started magic kills again, and started getting lots more TE's.

I don't think that the type of key item necessarily "matches" the light. When soloing in tahrongi on blm I obviously only had azure yet I still got clear salve I (pet status heal) and berserker something (melee bonus).

^^This with other claims is good enough for me to use as a strategy.

Also: 20 hrs per Stone x 3 Stones x 100 Trials / 24hrs per day = 250 days to achieve an acceptable sample size for Urat. Sounds reasonable to me >.>
