Which is completely stupid, but at least it's something you can work around if you're aware of it.

Just making sure I have this correct: breaking the 350 exp soft cap requires obtaining gold light, which is gotten from ruby chests, so I should emphasize WS kills for a while?
No. I got pissed off today because a few LS friends where going to go xp so i said fuck it i'll buy the damn thing. Got the CS in jeuno, when to the zone got the CS there, entered and warped out thinking i had to go talk to the guy in jeuno again before i could stay in zone longer than 5 mins. My friend thought it was funny that i had to sit outside for an hour (45 mins because of travel). During that time they only got 1 TE. After i got there (Hour+ for them) the TE's were dropping like crazy.
So the fact that i fucked up and didn't get the sig before warping out got me much more XP at the end lol. I would suggest if someone only has a 30 min~ to just chill outside for a bit till they get the chain up.
As far as kill speed we were doing about 20~30 sec kills, the 3 blms were trying to do the killshots but we did have some randoms that just went off whenever. After an hour in (2 hours for everyone else) the xp chests were dropping faster than the TE's. I remember 3 dropping all within 10 mins of each other.
Edit: Also did not have any support (Brd/Cor) and had one rdm. The randoms that we had were ok but not even geared above avg. So to pull this kind of xp you don't even need the best setups. two of the 18 in ally were just chest bitchs and the one in my LS was shitting out the TE's. When we rarely failed 2 we would use a key, and with the chests giving 1k coins people didn't care about buying keys. (Just checked i had 25k coins (Whatever its called in there) when i left).
I don't know how low you can go in terms of level, but a LS mate of mine reported letting a lv50 leech come in to solely open chests, and he obtained 14 levels or so within 4 hours.
Take that as you will.
You damn right he probably got that much.

Been in over 7 hours, still got about 40 mins, still going, chaining constant 600 exp per as I'm posting. If it matters, I joined this alliance when I was 11k exp into 76 COR, now I'm level 80, capped on exp and got 2 merits.
Fuck you SE for not adding this expansion 4 years ago.
Edit: Just came back to my 3rd merit in this alliance within 12 ish mins, lol.
Edit #2: Bah, you're talking about something else totally. Lowest that was in this PT was 70.
Sweet Jesus...
So what's the verdict on massing EXP in Abyssea quick? Raise Azure up ASAP for lots of blue chests, or go for Red in the hopes of Gold/Silver/Ebony light?
Kill like mad at first with melee/WS/magic kills to build up xp chain and chest pop rate. Disregard chest type and light.
Just kill merit style. 30-45 mins with xp @200 sounds like the magic number.
Once sufficiently up to speed focus Magic killshots to produce blue chest for TE.
Once time is built up focus on WS killshot for red chest for breaking xp/cur cap.
Profit

I've gone in as scholar 38 and came out scholar 47 after 3 hours. Experience was very slow at start because of the level gap (8epx/kill). Parsed the whole thing with kparser and at the end of the run experience was gotten at 18k/hour according to the parser. Would get approximately 250exp/kill. Did nothing but opening chests the whole run.

This is what we did, had TE chests popping within the first half hour or so and never came close to running out of time from there. Took a little while to get the reds popping after but once I got some red light built up from the red chests they popped reasonably frequently and gold/silver/ebon lights followed.
I was opening chests during our 6hr run in Abyssea and noticed that Ebony/Silvery/Golden glows appeared after sometime (about 2-3hrs) and the pressure gap you need to fit into shrunk to only 4-5 points (was 10-15 points at the beginning) - so summing up - its getting harder when you progress to open the red chests, but also they drop more often.
To those who had major experience with the Abyssea Add-on, I ask you how many different activities / party size would you consider doable?
From everything I've read until now (tho I lack personal and prolonged experience):
1) Alliance Exp/Cruor farm. Guess it works for subjobs and to grab the new cruor sets. and I guess it does need an alliance.
2) Party + NM popping? Like 6 people working on pop items aiming for higher tiers and associated drops I guess?
3) Any verdict about decent solo goals or strategies?
I can imagine alliance farm being the most productive use of Abyssea time but to those who might have issues forming or taking part in one (hello more casuals), what's the best use one could do of Abyssea?
Initally, with this expansion, my social LS formed smallish group, party +, to farm xp/cruor here, not understanding the full implications of the potential offered by a full alliance.
Since then, I took a full alliance shout for mandies, which, for whatever reason, failed to produce anywhere near some of the maximum results others have posted here. I think the party was just too weak.
Yesterday, I was lfg on bard and got an invite to pull/sleep in a party that had been on-going for many hours, 9+ hours, maybe longer. This particular group obviously had it down. After maxing out level 80 buffer and 2 quick merits, I had worked my indivual way up to around 400 xp per kill, and ended up leaving with essentially the same minutes I entered with. Absolutely awesome, especially compared to days lfg, with 9484757 others lfg, and essentially a dozen decent xp camps.
This last group was essentially LS controlled, leveling all of their jobs, and filling in key jobs outside the LS. I asked if I could come back another job and they said no, which I understand, now, what their objective was. Also, any drop items such as augmented or scrolls, etc. was lotted by their members, which at first bothered me some, but looking back, I guess is fair for their orchestration of the whole event.
Personally, I've not enough experience in there with the chests, in particular, to consider myself or LS qualifed enough to sponsor this sort of run. As a matter of fact, personally, I've yet to open a single chest in there.
I've read this entire post, but would appreciate someone helping me, in a nutshell, what chests should not be left to chance, but, rather use forbidden keys on. Should whoever is opening chests (1-2 as required) always peek at what's inside first before deciding? A friend told me any box with a stone = TE? Do TE's only come from blue chests? Can a forbidden key be used after trying to open conventionally, but just before potential failure? How many forbidden keys should our group start with assuming extended party 5-10+ hours?
Also, would someone kindly elaborate on the ebon/silver/gold aura. Does this automatically come from opening the red boxes?
Any help on the entire chest routine would be most sincerely appreciated.
Personally, I'd use a forbidden key on 1) any time extension chest where you only have 1 failure left or 2) any upper tier key item drop or one that hasn't been discovered if you only had one failure left.
So iv been in abyssea twice in the last 24 hours. First run lasted 4 hours 20 minutes, we had just hit 591 xp per mob but for some reason no TE's towards the end. I noticed that as people left/afk'd/got kicked that our blue chests dropped more and more temp items.... could there be any correlation between speed of kills and chest items?
We got some TE's but mainly red/gold chests, numerous baramneasias, shell V's, minne V etc but again the TE's seemed very elusive.
Today i went in for 60 minutes with a JP party. They focused on pearlescent lights and recieved a total of 10 chests in 60 minutes, 3 blue, 7 red. The red were 6 azure light 1 ruby light. Either way, that party sucked >.>
If they're going to invite outside people to fill in slots because their LS is too shitty to do it all by themselves, then they should be ready to face the consequences of outside people wanting a share of drops and what not.
Now, if they had invited you and let you say, leech on PUP, yeah, I can see them not letting you do shit, but having you come on bard, I'd just tell them to go fuck themselves. :D You should have just ditched them, let one of their own members come bard.
Agreeing with the above poster. If you're filling in key roles and making the run a success, and they're being anal over what job you come, you deserve a cut of the spoils.
