So you are lolgimp if you have NQ staves instead of HQ (1.10 to 1.15), but it is a marginal upgrade to get a 1.25 from the +4 Magians? *confused*

It was worthwhile getting the +3 before the update, and I was considering doing it myself despite the macro issues (I already had a 15% cure potency Teiwaz), but I am glad I waited since the early trials were cut in half.

For NQ to HQ, it's not just jumping from a damage multiplier of 1.10 to 1.15; it's jumping from 1.10 AND 20 magic accuracy to 1.15 AND 30 magic accuracy.

Losing 10 magic accuracy going from a HQ staff to "4:1 damage:accuracy" Magian staff would offset the damage increase "on things that matter," presumably where magic accuracy still counts.

Well, aquilos for me, as elvaan, probably not going to be outdone. 15 elemental 5int and the 15% damage/ 30 Macc.

I nuke on SCH, which lags behind a bit in M.Acc. If I can get away with HQ staves for a majority of what I nuke without switching to my resist set, a BLM can get by with NQ level M.Acc. At worst, they'll have to make minor gear trades, which is a small price to pay for that amount of increased damage. Also, we just got a boost in M.Acc thanks to the level cap increase.

I don't think anyone is suggesting getting rid of their HQ staves here. I certainly intend to keep them around for my resist set or for elements I don't use all that often and aren't worth getting the damage or accuracy Magian (looking at you, water). A dedicated mage is likely to have a mix of something like thunder and ice damage +4, wind and earth accuracy +4, and a full set of HQ.

People also need to remember that we just leveled to 80 as well. Sure were going to lose 10 MAcc for using the new staves, and in case of aquilos an additional 15MAcc and 5INT (another 2.5~5MAcc) for a total of a -30MAcc loss on Ice spells, we also just gained 25 addition MAcc through our elemental skill after hitting 80.

For ice nukes we lose 5 MAcc, and for none ice spells we gain 15 MAcc (25 if we stay with HQ though), and this trade off gives us an additional 10% in damage.

A pure BLM only person will sell their HQ staffs in exchange for the new ones. However were now going to have to carry around more than 8 (inc light). We'll have to have +4 dmg staffs for all 6 spells, and at minimum have +4 MAcc staffs for Ice, Wind, and Dark spells.

So thats now 10 staffs; If you want to be a completionist youll have to get the MAcc versions of Water for poison, Stone for slow, Thunder for shock/stun, Light Cure+ staff for curing youself after vert if no drain, and to help others, and Fire for burn.

For a total of now having to carry around 14 staffs. 6 for damage, 8 for macc (assuming drain/aspir dont work any better for the dmg dark version. if so, now 15 staffs)

Not only is that a lot of staffs.. thats a shit ton of trials. And any BLM who doesnt do all of this is gimp.

I don't see the point of making magian +dmg versions for spells other than Thunder and Ice. I'm a Rdm main, but I also have whm and blm leveled. Although the other nukes do get cast, they don't get cast nearly enough for me to make the effort for magian staffs. On the other hand, I'm planning on making 5 or so M.acc staffs.

Or you can be pragmatic (smart) about it and decide what to upgrade (or not at all) . For example, with BLM any direct-damage spell other than ones starting with "Thund" or "Blizz" will get relatively little play for most once 99 is attained.

Aren't these trials still going to be further upgraded in the next update? That alone should be reason enough to do them I think.

Obviously getting every single possibly staff is way overkill, but some of them in particular (lightning, cure potency) are really nice and I would say definite must haves for people that enjoy/use those jobs actively.

most likely up until now I don't know how the elemental staves from ToM held up against NQ and HQ but with this recent patch each side is better then HQ, so we can only assume in the future they'll be adding even more to them.

Im not really sure about the further upgrading. 25% is a lot, and im really surprised SE is doing this; to see it go ever high is unlikely, but who knows. One thing I could see them doing with upgrades is to boost the weak points. IE: You go the dmg route of 4/1, and further questing could bring that to 4/2 or 4/3. But I wouldnt be surprised if these dont upgrade any further, at least in a damage perspective.

Im just now starting on my first crook.. and I forgot im level 80.. where all of the stuff people are suggesting for killing, are EP to under 80 only D:

Adding up all of these quests is getting daunting, honestly. They definitely seem like an improvement now, although I dunno if I have it in me to do them all

Yeah, doing one is painful enough, Thunder and Ice are musts, everything else is just not worth the effort really, fuck it. I may do Fire just because I do use it a lot. Screw the MAcc ones..

Well assuming meteor is dark based and nothing better comes out that will be a good upgrade too.

I'm on Trial 816 and I haven't had to alter any of the suggested places yet. Mire and Gruaberg still work fine for Trial 790 as does the entrance to the Tree for 791.

;\ this trial is a bitch for BRD, I can hardly hit a 50 damage stone II as /BLM unless I ES and one mob every 10 minutes, with 75 targets ... wow lol, my Etudes and Int build are barely helping lol, if only I could cast this with my Terra's Staff but it has to be kill shot I fear the worst for when I hit 150 damage next trial.

Aren't you doing the MAcc path? If so, the next trial for you should be killing stuff that has an an earth-based debuff on at death, no?

Even so, it sounds like you're getting resists. I hate to suggest it if you don't have the sub, but you should sub SCH because Dark Arts will raise your elemental skill to a reasonable level. Though, I'm not sure how you will be able to deal with the loss of MAB+24 if you're really doing that low damage.

Edit: Your trial is Plantoids, right? Why not park outside of Nashmau and keep changing your jobs? That will reset Elemental Seal timer.
