Rift has a new Cinematic.
Rift has a new Cinematic.

I'm mostly debating if it's worth paying for it until TERA. I haven't been doing anything since November anyways, so it's not like I'll fall over dead without anything to play.
Woah, fucking good job they have done with that cinematic. Shows exactly what the game is about.
Just showing off how the environment changes and stuff when a Rift happens I would assume. All mobs do become "Plane Bound" to the rift they're near, meaning they glow green(Life)/purple(Death)/red(Fire)/blue(Water)/ect. While there is absolutely no reason for this other than a few consumables (I mean there is no benefit or determent if a mob becomes Plane Bound, they just glow) , but it's just showing off cinematics.
well, did the tombs last night, was aparently server first lol (i know not really since not retroactive but still epeen wheeeee) and it was a lot hader than i thought. also was pretty fun at the same time, but only for the sole reason of it being different fromt he rest of the game, and no one else in the party had done it before, so it had that "ok wtf is this death shard going to do...idk lets zerk it....HOLY SHIT FUCKFUCKFUCK" feel to it. this is probably the only time i'll ever say that if i could turn up the graphics options of my pc, i'd probably enjoy the game more. I'm on lowest, looks extremely shitty, but 60 fps isn't anything to scoff at compared to....15? lol
I haven't played an MMO in about 2 years so i'm possibly going to buy this or wait for GW2. TERA just looks like another korean grinder trying to apply to western gamers(aion)
I don't know. The graphics look pretty decent, especially the backgrounds and the monsters, they look pretty decent. It tries too hard to copy WoW but honestly what MMO doesn't nowadays. Bitching about the graphics should be your last worry though because I personally prioritize gameplay, how fun it is to play, how smooth it handles, content, etc. Sure the graphics aren't FFXIV but FFXIV sucked so clearly stunning graphics can't carry an entire game by itself.
I'm digging the multiple talent trees inside the archetype. I'm going to assume you can only reroll inside your archetype, which is a bit disappointing. I thought it was going to be like FFXI where you could play Warrior and Healer even if it did less damage or sucked compared to other specs, but it looks like you're limited to your role mostly. (correct me if i'm wrong here.)
The Rift concept also sounds pretty boss. At the very least the game is trying to be slightly innovative, because at this point nothing can kill WoW except WoW deciding to kill itself to be honest.
I enjoyed what bit of Rift I did play. If I weren't still playing FFXI and FFXIV while it's free to hold me over til TERA I would probably purchase this.
I'll give it another shot, but I just couldn't get into a game where I felt like a I controlling a stick figure with little to no customization.
You're limited inside the 4 archetypes but you have 8 souls/classes available for each, not counting PVP souls.. What this means is that you can make a rogue tank, a cleric dps, or a mage healer and so on. You are also allowed 4 roles you can preset and load at any time as long as you're out of combat.
I usually run as markman/ranger/riftstalker as my dps build but if we can't find a tank for an instance i can switch to my riftstalker/nightblade/bladedancer build to tank.
Tried Rift last night. All the Warhammer aspects of it made me smile as I <3ed that game (too bad they fucked themselves over with it). And I'll give it credit in that it didn't feel like a Korean MMO. BUT it is a korean MMO so I am still on the fence about it, as there has yet to be one where I actually stuck with for more than 2 weeks.
I did find it funny though we tried the warfront at lvl 10 (exact copy of a warhammer game btw), and had people bitching saying "don't join until you're 14+." Because betas are serious business.
I refuse to knock Tera as, from what I've seen of it, its going to be a smash hit for the consumer base its targeting. I did a bit of the 20+ PVP zone last night, and its like Arathi Basin on steroids. I get a chuckle at how this game really is trying to simply +1 or +2 WoW at every turn. Even the progression of events, such as the PVP instances, mirror WoW, but simply expand on size, scope, concept and graphics.
I submitted 2 bugs last night and by morning, both were fixed in the updated patch. I just can't believe a company can actually work that quickly, even if others have listed the same complaints. Yesterday's chat channel fix came at pretty much the exact moment I figured out that it wasn't working correctly. If Trion can produce results even half as quickly as they are now during retail, they'll justify my monthly payment each and every month.
Everyone values different things for their dollar, especially with a MMORPG. Some value graphics or storyline or a sense of community and the like. I, personally, value a company's willingness to improve on their product and make an attempt to earn a paycheck each month. Thus far, Trion is vastly exceeding my expectations. If this keeps up, I hope other companies take notice.
I am very impressed with how quick this company responds to problems and criticism though. That's probably one reason why i might want to play.
Especially the criticism on character animations.

While I have no idea if they plan on doing anything about it (I doubt it at this stage), it's not like thats an easy fix. It would take a long time to redo all the animations. I don't know why they didn't get opinions from lots of people on this beforehand though <_<
I've said to people several times now that this game reminds me of EQ2 alot, and makes me think maybe the developers are from SOE, or they just played it alot. Theres several small aspects to the game that have an exact replica of something in EQ2, and the animations kinda have the same feel to me. BUT I could be completely wrong.
I also find myself humming the Dragon Age theme after listening to the Rift music after awhile lol
