Yeah Guitar, you need to wait for their email. I think I had to wait like 30mins or so. Not too bad.

Unsurprisingly, I just had to log off after hitting level 2. Too many things about this game just pissed me off. The western narrator/epic shitty lore/army of one-feeling was such a turn off. I've done this shit million times before already, goddamnit. Nothing in the game made me feel like I should even bother continuing to level 3.

Still, it's solid enough that I think it'll succeed.
So you did the first quest, dinged 2, and quit? Don't think you can really judge the entire game based off of you doing 1 quest. I can understand you not liking it after a while of playing but jesus it's like you didn't even try/attempt to give it a chance because it somewhat looks like wow. Too each his own I guess but how can you stand 14 then?

It's funny because of who's saying that. However, it would have been more amusing if it were miokokokojsopdfija.

If the game doesn't make me want to see what's coming next, nor is the gameplay fun enough for me to continue playing based solely on that it's enough of a proof that it's not a game for me.

And who said I can stand the as-is 14 lol.

And yes Kuya, which is why I said unsurprisingly lol.

I looked at Hyan's post and I just had to stop after a few words. All the talking and the words. I've read this shit a million times before. Nothing in the post made me feel like I should keep reading.

Haha, wow. I thought the starting areas in Rift were pretty amazing for MMO starting areas. If you couldn't even make it through them before getting bored then I don't know how you could even play a game in this genre at all. Especially the Defiant starting area. Holy fucksticks. Everyone playing Rift should experience that zone at least once if they give a half of a shit about the game's lore.

I was kinda meh on the opening regions, but maybe part of that was the sheer number of people making limited pops (namely of doodads like possessed swords or the imbuer thingies) available. I had more fun once you got past the first story rift fight, where you could just be out EXPing/Questing when a rift opens with various mobs invading. Could be a pleasant distraction from chasing down objectives, though obviously risky if you're a first-comer onto the rift without others nearby to help.

In general, I can't say I was super terribly impressed. I saw people babbling about how the graphics were good, and while that may be true for the environments, the characters and mobs were maybe slightly gussied up WoW-versions. Aion's avatars looked better, imo.

I can't say I was impressed by the graphics in the least but then again the first time I played rift I'd just logged off my XIV account to try it out so... yeah.
But regardless of that, I guess because I started in one of the later beta stages maybe I didn't have the crowding issues some had, that and when I did have an issue with overcrowding or whatnot, the game usually gave me credit when someone else completed the objective while I was near or auto-partied me with them. I didn't really ever have to wait around for anything.

If the lore didn't feel so patched together, overdone and generic and there was some sort of possibility that it might be worth looking into I would have had a reason to continue. "Planes of Telara"? Lump it together with "Tower of Eternity" and "Exiled Realm of Arborea" and maybe something decent might come out. And get rid of the woman narrator, holy fuck.

The starter area was pretty cool though.

Afaik they got rid of the "Planes of Telara" part, it's just Rift now.

Yeah, honestly I was bored out of my mind the first couple of betas. It felt just like every other generic MMO to come out over the last few years and I hadn't even considered buying it. But once I got to 20 and they started opening the game up more, had zone wide invasions, warfronts, open world PvP, and all the other stuff it's a lot more fun. So I ended up preordering it.

I mean the game isn't revolutionary by any means. But it takes a lot of good things from previous MMOs and it's very polished. And then you add in the soul system to give the game a bit of depth and it's enough to keep me occupied until some of the other big MMOs come out later this year. I haven't really been following the story either, as I just never really expected it to be any good. I just play the game for what it is.

For what it's worth, the game starts to open up a lot more after 30. Especially if you play on a PvP server as they have you questing in some of the same areas as the other faction. That and I've also found that there's multiple quest hubs that you can go to if you do a bit of exploring.

I liked the female narrator more than the male. In general, the script for it was pretty shitty, though.

I guess the soul system is kind of like subjobs meets talent trees. Probably better once you're higher level, sure, but them throwing three trees at you without the points to invest even in one too well (paired with level restrictions) is a bit of a downer. For general combat, I wasn't a fan of the global cooldown on most abilities (maybe it's different for non-warriors, dunno). Equipment variety seemed kind of scare for the low levels, too. Sure, quests threw some stuff at you eventually, and while I knew there were random greens out there, just getting one (you could use) was an unlikelihood. I don't think I saw an AH, either, but maybe I just missed it.

Also got MPKed chillin' in town while AFK. Felt like Aion all over again with the asmos glitching past the barriers and killing people who thought they were safe.

Getting them has been accelerated for beta.

I haven't been paying any attention to this game at all, so this is probably a dumb question, but what's the deal with the beta/beta events? Is the beta only playable at certain times like FFXIV was?

Indeed, sometimes it's weekends, sometimes a couple of days during a week.

One thing I really like is the ability to switch "roles" on the fly. You go to a NPC and buy roles for a couple platinum, roles basically being saved soul tree configurations. It even saves your interface setup for each role, its incredibly handy and I almost forgot something could be so convenient. Got to try out some new souls really easily that way. Chloromancer is a lot more fun than I figured it would be.
