the basic combat in rift is not fun at all.

Well it depends on your play style too I guess. I felt some of the DPS classes felt kind of generic for the few levels I played them. But I've been playing a Saboteur the last couple of betas and I've been having a blast (no pun intented). It's completely different from any class I've ever played in other games.

Firstly, playing the game itself is supposed to be fun, I don't think a developer goes "Ok, now that we have our game made, we might want to put some fun into it!". Except maybe SE, but they stop making a game before they actually follow through with that.

And secondly, the combat in Rift is still more fun than FFXI or Aion. And I've spent more time in both of those games so far (well, ok, Rift may have caught up to my Aion playtime, but probably not, I did get a rogue to 13 at release).

The problem i have and have learned to accept is that i've found every MMO's basic combat to be dull and boring except Aions. I'm sure i'll be tossing TERA's combat into the Aion circle as well when i get a chance to play it. I find WoW's and LOTRO's basic combat boring, yet i'm enjoying Rift, go figure i guess. If it wasn't for the soul system i'd probably find it dull though.

I think the problem many people are having with it is that auto attack/white damage is pretty meaningless compared to other MMO's where it's 30-40% of your damage. I had planned on playing Assassin until i learned this.

^ I've liked a lot of things in RIFT but I agree that the battle system, for me, isnt that exciting. I'm playing a warrior, so maybe a different class will change this. I think I will try something new next beta.

Jesus christ, is there any place that offers free shipping with the collectors edition of rift? I have my 80 dollar rebate that i wanted to use but fuck paying 10 bucks for shipping with gamestop....ugh

Nevermind....checked amazon and found that it's free shipping....with a dollar discount to boot! (i'll have to find like 75c worth of bubble gum to buy with a debit card....lol)

I kinda feel bad for you, but different strokes for different folks. I find the combat in rift to be excellent, especially given the variety of abilities and things I can do with a single character at one time, compared to other games. It just gets better the higher level you get. GCD abilities, Non-GCD abilities, reactionary abilities, percentage-based abilities; there's plenty of things to do at one time, especially as a warrior. What souls were you playing at and what level were you? My 35 Champ/Riftblade/Beast has a million things to do, as does my Paladin/Warlord/Void Knight.

I had a lot of fun last beta, ended up pre-ordering. I played a cabalist in this one, but previously did elementalist and assassin in betas 2&3. I had a ton of fun exploring the world, there's so much to see, and so many hidden secrets!

The random gear you get for solving the puzzles is pretty much the strongest stuff you could get in the game, at least speaking of betas 5 and 6. I was rocking one of the 2-handed hammers and the 16+ damage was nothing to sneeze at.

I got almost exclusively girdles. Two purple girdles and like five green girdles.

Also, I was told the item you get scales with your level. You also can't seem to get a good item multiple times.

WoW isn't an impressive game, but it's still the best. You don't need a gimmick for an MMO, just solid gameplay that you can enjoy with friends. So far Rift has this.

I am laughing at the hatred of DPS meters on the forums. People seem to think if you can avoid DPS meters that there won't be any "Top DPS" classes and such. But LOL at that, guess no one played FFXI which had top and useless DPS rankings even before meters came out.
