I wouldn't really say that it's bland. FFXIV is bland. Rift is just familiar.

FF14 is more fun to PVE than rift. ( levelling ).

    Fun is subjective.
I find it very hard to believe (having played both) that most people would agree with that though.

    Both are boring.

I say this with my deep voice of experience, so you better believe it.

both games have extraordinarily boring PvE. which moreso is a meaningless statement.

There's a ridiculous amount of oldschool EQ players on that forum that detest such things. I love dps meters, but i will admit shit like threat meters and dbm are silly. They're trying to prevent the e-sport crowd from ruining another MMO but they don't seem to understand that meters will be used regardless if they're allowed.

Also comparing Rift's combat to XIV is hilarious. Can i shoot my bow on the run in XIV? Can i fire off skill and spells on the run in XIV? Can i actually get out of the way of bad stuff while doing all this in XIV? Let's not be ridiculous.

So my friend linked me a talent calculator so I could mess around... and I have to say I'm seriously let down. For all this talk about soul tree's and flexibility and stuff, in the end it is the exact same as WoW... down to the same degree of flexibility.

You are only given enough points to max one tree and then you have 8 points left over. So you can be a hybrid and not be as good as any pure spec, or you can be a pure spec and be better then all the hybrids. It's just like wow pre-Cata talent tree makeover. The only difference is you aren't locked into 3 tree's to choose from, but instead have multiple tree's per class which allows more diversity among the player base. But its still the same in that ppl will go heavily down one tree and just touch into others

You should have 16 points to spend in another tree. Every 3rd level you get an extra point to spend in another tree, so you'll be able to level your 2nd (or 3rd) tree while you level up.

Depends which class. I see no point in putting 51 points into Marksman. I get more flexibility and options going 32-22-12 across all 3 souls.

    You'll have 66 points at level 50.

The point to 51 in a class is the final 51 point ability, which can be quite powerful. Warlock one is like +75% damage done for 10s with a 2min cooldown or something I think. Which is simply amazing burst, lol.

If only my 51pt MM ability didn't suck for pve, barring some boss gimmick that might make it useful of course. I'm actually not a fan of any of the abilities 32+ for MM. It just depends on the class.

    A few things:

    1) You don't need the 51 point talent, so you can run deep into 2 trees if you feel like it without much penalty, especially in PVP specs.
    2) You can switch souls on the fly, which blows away WoW's limits on character classes.
    3) Head-cleaving Warriors with stuns, snares, CCs, a pet, and capable magic. Not even DK can do all of that at the same time, and well.

I think you'd get a lot more use out of going deep into two different souls. Was looking at this build for end game Warrior PvP.

I'll be going Vind/Champ/Riftblade for my PVP spec; I already started working on it in P6, but its nowhere near complete when you only have access to the first tier of abilities.

Riftblade/Champ/Vind is pretty much my idea as well.

Plenty of stuns, snares, roots (lol at rooting yourself and your opponent ((MAGE)) for 5-7 seconds) and ranged, plus you can block with a 2-hander to utilize all that strength.
