You are only given enough points to max one tree and then you have 8 points left over. So you can be a hybrid and not be as good as any pure spec, or you can be a pure spec and be better then all the hybrids. It's just like wow pre-Cata talent tree makeover. The only difference is you aren't locked into 3 tree's to choose from, but instead have multiple tree's per class which allows more diversity among the player base. But its still the same in that ppl will go heavily down one tree and just touch into others
You are not supposed to max out a single soul tree, you get roles for a reason. Picking every single ability just because you can is just needless clutter and wasted points. If you had actually read the descriptions of each ability/spell you clicked on, you would notice that a lot of it is situational.

Also, Katlan was in correct in saying you just have 8 points left, the trees I looked at were 51 points to fill up every skill in an entire tree (the same amount to get all of the skills). That leaves you with 15 points for other trees, which is enough to get halfway up another one.

And that's only if you choose to completely fill in a tree (which you couldn't do in WoW when I played). It's all about how you want to build your class, I think a lot of people will choose not to put all 51 points in a tree. To get to the top of a tree is only 31 points, then your options are to fill up extra slots in the tree to unlock a few of the extra skills on the bottom, or do another tree and get more skills. I'm sure I'll have a spec or two where I actually put 51 points in a single tree, but I'll also most likely have a spec or two where I'm dual trees.

Also, the PVP trees are really neat, I think. They're neat since they're meant to supplement any other tree to turn it into a PVP class. You can only put a maximum of 21 points in this tree, and there are 4 different paths to take on it. Basically 4 PVP builds that can supplement each of the 8 classes per calling.

Only trees that I'd even -THINK- about maxing are the ones with that give increasing buffs based on how many points you put in the total tree, like with Necromancer. Trion even said the current number of skill points aren't set in stone, and that they'd think about tweaking them as the tests continue.

I really cant believe people are bitching about the game already. It's fucking beta, give them time to fix the problems.

Even with all these 'problems' the game seems very polished thus far, especially for beta.

Dunno why this wasn't posted in a bigger way: interview with Scott Hartsman.

    http://www.ustream.tv/channel/dead-p..._medium=social

There's a ton of good info in here, especially about how much post-50 content there is.

The man is hilarious: "The only time you need to worry about how fast the leveling system is, is when you don't have end-game content, and we have plenty of end-game content."

What's hilarious about this? It's just sad that some developer don't grasp this simple concept yet. >_>

Its hilarious to me not only of because of the tone he said it in (has a funny voice); not only because of the conversation that predated the statement; but the fact that the head honcho of a brand new game, even if he's been around the block for 20 something years, has enough confidence in the end-game of a game that hasn't even launched to laugh at the question being presented him on via live chat. I respect his confidence, especially with what I've already seen from the game.

targeting is off in the game,
    aoe has major detection issues,
and a lot of little stupid stuff, i.e (you can only see the health of a mob you are directly targeting, this is hard coded so no mods to fix it)

did you guys beta test or jerk off to the voluptuous female models?

Thank you to the above voices of reason. If all people can do is complain about soul trees at end-game, then there's really nothing of importance to complain about. Especially considering that there are a myriad of ways Trion can go about expanding upon how the trees can be used. Easy solution: Add a system like merit points, where you acquire some XP-equivalent after you've hit the level cap which can be used to buy additional soul points.

Yes, Guarzt, these are MASSIVELY GAME-BREAKING BUGS that will make Rift COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE. I mean seriously, is this the best you've got when it comes to complaints about Rift? People find the stupidest shit to whine about. I've played betas of many MMOs, and as I mentioned earlier, this is far and away the best beta I have ever played. Only one that even came close was Aion, and that's because it had already been live for the asian playerbase for a year before the rest of us got it, and then the only thing "beta" about it was localization.

One can't talk about bugs and issues if they're not game-breaking you say? I did think the whole purpose of Beta testing is to complain as much as possible so they fix what's wrong, regardless of how game-breaking said problems are.

The only class I've played so far worth putting the full 51 points into is if you plan to main soul Bard. The best combos right now are like 32/26/8 type builds - the versatility you gain from 25ish points in another soul is too good. In fact before they put in branch abilities that gained more power the more points spent in that tree no soul was worth going over 32 points.

This is probably my endgame Bard build. I'll probably use Rangers/Marksman/Bard to level up though.

Also, as for 10 man raids being removed, I think it's a good thing. Blizzard pretty much killed off most 25 man guilds with their decision in Cata to make the rewards for 10 and 25man raids the same.

There is still 10 man content in Rift, plenty of it. Mainly in the form of Expert Rifts.

20+ man raids are just more epic feeling, and I think Blizzard splitting it up into 10 and 25 was a mistake back when they did it too. Next expansion they might just do away with 25 man raids entirely and just embrace the casual guilds.

By that logic, why have a leveling system at all? This is what I hate most about WoW. It's given the genre this idea that the only point to leveling is to act as a race to endgame.

Dunno bout ya'll but I much prefer running dungeons/raids/end shit with my guildies/friends than the push to cap; mindless grinding/questing. I'd rather it be quicker to get to the stuff I enjoy doing.

I always considered that what made leveling interesting is the rewards associated to the stupid numbers. Say the abilities you get at different levels or the access you get to different shit as you level up.

If that killed 25 man raiding, it's because most people didn't actually want to do 25-man raids. Most people were doing them simply because that's (for the most part) where the real challenge/top-tier gear was. Why not design the raid structure around what people actually enjoy, rather than in a way where you spend most of your resources developing content the vast majority of your player-base will never touch? See vanilla/tbc wow 25+ raids.
